Improved kitsunebi edition!
This is my own scan of this issue. I'm uploading it as an alternate download option - not a replacement - for the version of this mag already available here. The other version is also a nice scan, so I had no desire to replace someone else's hard work. That said, this version has some advantages that may or may not be important to you, which are outlined below should you need to decide which version is best for you.
1. This scan is higher resolution - it is saved at 3200px height vs the other version's 2200px.
2. This scan was debound using a heat gun vs. the other scan's guillotine cutting. This means that this version scanned the entire page from edge to edge, while the other version had a small portion of every page cut away before it ever entered the scanner.
3. Related to #2, this version has made efforts to have facing pages joined as seamlessly as possible when viewed in 2-page view mode. The other version really had no possibility of doing so, since both facing pages had part of the gutter side of the page cut off during debinding, leaving a portion of the center of a 2-page join missing, and thus unable to be seamlessly joined.
In my opinion, the increase in resolution is of minimal importance for most users (and may even be undesirable, as it will of course increase the filesize.) The main advantages of this version are mostly apparent only when viewing in 2-page mode. When viewing in two page mode, this version is clearly superior as it shows the complete image across both pages, but if you only ever view a single page at a time, you will be unlikely to notice the fact that the other version's pages have been slightly cropped.
Comparisons (note the center portion of the two page spreads)

So many spreads. And foldouts. Whoever invented foldout pages needs a slap.
This file has been edited and formatted to be viewed as a CBR using a dedicated CBR reader. If you're using a PDF reader, such as Sumatra, it may not display correctly.

Hey DOOMGUY2000. I already uploaded this to the Internet Archive weeks ago. Nya nya nya nya nyaaaa naaaaa!! Too slow!
😂 (He'll still upload it again. He can't help it, some people are just simple.)
As for the rest of you, here's the latest issue of Computer Gaming World 2.0, complete with its Microsoft-purchased generic new title and Microsoft-purchased advertising section designed to look like articles (but thankfully (legally) labeled "special advertising section.") Skip that part unless you're a complete tool like DOOMGUY2000

Games for Windows Issue 09 (August 2007)
By kitsunebi
63 out of 104 pages had visual elements crossing from one page to the next. So basically 60% of the mag had to be edited together as joins, then spilt back apart into separate pages. Pain in the @$$ for me, but good for anyone who likes to read their mags in two-page view mode.
Also, a reminder that "Retromags recommended" Sumatra is one of the WORST choices of CBR reader you could be using (it's not really a CBR reader at all, it's a PDF reader that can open CBRs), so if you're using it, please be aware that some pages will not be displayed as they were intended.

As always, this file was edited to be read by a CBR reader. PDF readers such as Sumatra will not display facing pages correctly when viewing in two-page/book mode.

Games for Windows Issue 11 (October 2007)

It's so weird reading reviews of PC games during this era and hearing people complain about how the PC graphics pale compared to the console version. I've been out of the gaming scene for...most of this millennium, but it it still like that now? I remember when the PC was the system to beat...

Games for Windows Issue 13 (December 2007)

I don't have much to say about these issues, as I stopped gaming around 2005, so I don't really know anything about the games within. But hey, there's an article on interactive fiction, and I at least know what a grue is.

Lots of reviews this issue. Indeed, the review section is also the cover story, which is possibly a first?

Games for Windows Issue 15 (February 2008)

*kitsunebi edition!*
Nothing wrong with the older scan of this issue previously made available, but I scan everything in my collection regardless, and I do feel that my version offers some improvements. Most of those improvements are due to better debinding, which allows for better editing. If you start with a guillotine cut in the debinding process, there's nothing you can do when editing to account for the part of the page you cut away. As always, my scans are first debound with a heat gun, to allow for the entire page to be scanned. This allows two-page joins to be edited together more seamlessly.
Other differences include whiter pages and a higher resolution (3200 px vs the older scan's 2200).
I've tried to show some of the differences with animated gifs this time. Even though they're alternating back and forth, it should be easy to spot which of the two is this new, improved version, especially if you look towards the center of the join. 🙂
*you can click on these gifs to see them in a larger window:
And some joined pages of Games for Windows actually have a printed overlap, where the same part of the image is printed on both pages. In this case, the older scan (despite having some of this overlap area cut away during debinding) still has part of the image appearing twice, whereas this newer scan has more seamlessly edited the pages to remove the doubled overlap:

Games for Windows Issue 16 (March 2008)

2007 Games of the Year issue. One of which is Sam & Max: Season One. Sam & Max is no Monkey Island, but the original LucasArts adventure still holds a place in my heart. I still have a cap with a flaming Max head on it. And when my mom got two new kittens this past summer, I tried to get her to name them Sam and Max. She didn't go for it, though. 🥲

Games for Windows Issue 17 (April 2008)
By kitsunebi
This is the final issue of Games for Windows. It could also be considered the final issue of Computer Gaming World, since that's what it was before they (unwisely) changed the name. And I'd like to say it's the final issue needed to complete our collection of this title, but unfortunately we're still missing issue 5. Phillyman owns it. It's in a box he has in storage. Pester him if you want to see it scanned. Don't worry, there's nothing he likes more than a good pestering.
I for one am glad to be done editing issues of this title. I scanned 15 issues out of GfW's 17 issue run, and every single one of them had an obscene amount of elements spread across both pages, forcing me to edit them together as a single image to ensure perfect joins in two-page view before splitting them back apart for the CBR. This issue had 64 pages that had to be joined. And it's only a 100 page mag! I shake my fist at you, GfW art director, whoever you were...
