About This File

There's a report on the PS4 release complete with lots of pictures of people waiting overnight in the cold and proudly holding their newly purchased goods like they're some sort of hero showing off the head of the beast they vanquished.  I've never bought anything at a midnight release event and never will, but if I DID, I think I'd rather not have my picture taken and printed in a magazine.  Who could you ever show it to?

"Oh, you waited in a line for 24 hours to buy a video game system the moment it was released?  Wow, uh...cool story.  --NNERRRRRD!!!!!"

NNERRRRRD!!!!!

LOL.  The Dreamcast is the only system I ever bought at launch.  Probably not on launch day itself (I honestly don't remember), but it was newish so still full price.  All other systems I always waited for a price drop.

I was at a couple of midnight releases for games back in the early 2000s. I'm 90% certain Silent Hill 3 got one at my local store, although the line was only about two dozen people deep. Nothing like what you'd see for a release of Madden or Call of Duty.

I remember being in a GameStop for the midnight launch of Halo 2 because I was the only person willing to go with a friend when he went to get his copy (I didn't have an Xbox at the time). :)

NNERRRRRD!!!!!😀

I never knew anyone who admitted to going to midnight game/console releases, but I had friends who went to midnight releases of Harry Potter novels.  At the time, I couldn't believe that they (grown-ass-technically-adults) would be interested in a children's book.  It took urging from several people (including my dad) to get me to give them a chance, though it wasn't until years later after there were already a few of the films out.

I went with my wife to see the second Harry Potter movie for its midnight release. I also went with friends to the midnight releases of both Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith. Oh, and also The Two Towers. :)

I lack that human instinct to want things as soon as they're available.  Probably the only movie in my life I would have wanted to see on opening day was Return of the Jedi, and that's just because, being 5 or 6 years old at the time, I'd been waiting for it to be released literally all my life (as far back as my memory went, at any rate).  Not that there WERE midnight releases back then.  Or even if there were, it's not like my parents would have taken me to one, even IF I could have managed to stay awake for it.

I almost never go to the cinema, having no difficulty waiting until movies can be watched at home.  Even then I might wait years before watching something I really want to see.  And now that everything can be streamed or downloaded, with TV series, I'll usually wait until they're finished/canceled before even starting them.

And with games I'm so patient I'm waiting until my next life to play them, I guess LOL.
