IPAD Pro

So I just got the new iPad pro. So some pluses and minuses. My god do magazines look great on this thing. I'm using the YAC reader app and the scans are fantastic looking and huge. It really feels like reading a full size mag. The screen is nearly the same size as as full EGM. Of course it is displaying the images at only 2100 pixels high of the scans I have on it. But looks amazing. I haven't messed around to much with the other feature on the iPad yet. But definitely, for magazine scans it kicks ass.

The bad news. I was downloading all my scans directly to the app. And not using a computer to sync. Well my whole collection on my old iPad is stranded. There is no way to get them off the iPad. iTunes backup does not back up app data in iOS 9. So none of mags restored in the backup. And even third party readers and file managers cannot bypass the iOS 9 restriction. So I have no way to get my mags stranded on the iPad and now have to redox load all my EGM s again! This seriously sucks. I guess from now on I'll download them to my PC and then sync them to my iPad. But I seriously hate connecting my iPad to my PC whatsoever. But that will prevent this from happening again. If I was on iOS 8 I could have backed up the whole app and restored it. (Well not really because the iPad pro is ios9) but the YAC reader app is not meant to be your library, just download stuff from your main library. So when I DL anything straight to the app it's stuck there. I even emailed the app developer and he said there is no way to recover my mags. I'll post some pictures later.

Have you tried using iExplorer? It allows file system access to the iPad even under iOS 9. If the mags were installed as CBR files you should be able to locate them and copy them but if you have them stored on your PC it doesn't really matter as you just load all onto the Pro. That's why I like PDF's as I just drop them onto iTunes and it then uploads them into iBooks and allows syncing.

Did you get the 32GB or 128GB version?

I got my first look at one the other day. I can see why mags looks so good. It's HUGE!!!! 12.9" screen doesn't sound that big but in 4:3 format it really is big. Now I want one. Sigh!!!!!

BTW. If you grab any of Future PLC's magazine apps they are offering the complete set of back issues for a low price now. Get 80 issues of PC Format/PC Gamer/OPSX/X-Box or Games Master for $35 etc. Great stuff.

I did try that app. It doesn't allow you access to app data still so it was a no go. Got the 128 GB.

I can't remember what it was like with the desktop CDisplay. I try to avoid the desktop on my Surface since the "modern" apps are all touch friendly. I don't even have it installed on my Surface. But with the"modern" apps the scans looked good, though depending on the magazine, I would have to zoom in a bit on some pages to read the text. I think a bigger screen like the Surface Pro 4 or iPad Pro would be a better means.
