I don't like digital because most digital distribution channels offer games merely as a temporary ownership license that is subject to disappear at some point in the future. Digital is only acceptable if it's DRM-free and/or for stuff like ROMs for impossible-to-find old games. Primarily I prefer physical copies of old games. Of course, physical is not without its issues as well. Things like dying batteries, damaged discs, bit-rot, etc. also come to mind. Eventually the day will come when all old games will be impossible to use, and retro gamers will have to rely on clone systems like the Retron and old games stored on flash cards.

im already preparing for this scenario by selling off old games while the market is high when suatable solutions exist like flash carts etc. I don't need the physical games but am a. If proponent of playing on real hardware. Same philosophy with old magazines. Anyway digital is ok but for NEW stuff I prefer physical, and old stuff digital as long as it's accurate.

For me, it honestly depends if it's a series I actually plan on completing.  For example I have every official pokemon themed console and handhelds up until the pokemon x, y, and pikachu themed 3ds xl, the red and blue themed 3ds, so I have 4 and still need to get the pokemon sun and moon themed 3ds, meanwhile I've been getting every main series game for each handheld, but when it comes to newer systems like the xbox one, the ps4, it doesn't matter either way because the digital copies will never scratch like a CD will, that being said for some reason I still prefer getting the physical games for my wii u, so it's mostly just preference.  I'm a big Nintendo guy, what can I say.
