I am creating a few new pages that will allow users to quickly pull important information from the Magazine Databases.

Magazines Being Scanned

https://www.retromags.com/magazines_being_scanned.html

Magazines Being Edited

https://www.retromags.com/magazines_being_edited.html

Magazines Missing Month Information

https://www.retromags.com/magazines_missing_month_info.html

Magazines Missing Year Information

https://www.retromags.com/magazines_missing_year_info.html

Magazines That are in Preserved Status, but no MD5 Checksum

https://www.retromags.com/preserved_but_no_md5.html

Magazine Records with No Cover Scan (USA)

https://www.retromags.com/missing_usa_covers.html

Magazine Records with No Cover Scan (UK)

https://www.retromags.com/missing_uk_covers.html

Downloadable Magazines

https://www.retromags.com/downloadable_magazines.html

Magazines With Preserved Status, But No Download Links

https://www.retromags.com/preserved_magazines_with_no_download_links.html

This should always return back nothing!

Preserved Magazines with No Official Download Link

https://www.retromags.com/missing_official_download.html

Will continue to make new pages as I find area's where we could use a quick query to find out information :)

-Robert

EDIT:

Magazines Preserved But No Synopsis

Magazines Missing Folder Names

https://www.retromags.com/magazines_missing_folder_names.html

Magazines Missing File Names

https://www.retromags.com/magazines_missing_file_names.html

Magazines Missing Navigation Links

https://www.retromags.com/magazines_missing_navigation_links.html

Seems very handy and informative. I tried a couple of the links and they took me right to the relevant lists. Happy to see a PSM land in the scanning section.

I've always wondered what it meant when an issue was "preserved" but no further action was taken on it (such as no download links, as stated here). I guess I've just forgotten, I can always go back and look at the faq.

If a magazine or guide record has had the status set to "Preserved", it should have a download link present. If not an Official Download link, then one of the user provided links.

Could there not be a "preserved" tag on a "not allowed" issue if a mag too new to be included here has nonetheless already been scanned? Or is that getting too complicated?

And...am I the only one that scans and edits at the same time?

I'm not sure what happened but 12 of the Official Sega Dreamcast Magazine database entries are now marked as "missing." All the files are still there in the download section, though. Should be easy enough to edit them back in.

Also, if anyone's wondering why I don't add MD5 information to my uploads it's because I actually upload two versions to the net, one with a Retromags thank you page for Retromags and one without it for archive.org. If someone else wants to add that info, that's fine I guess, but I personally find it potentially confusing and consider it both inappropriate and cumbersome to keep the thank you page for long term storage.

I am not sure we ever put links in for those records. Just picking out one at random.....

Official Dreamcast Issue 12

https://community.retromags.com/files/file/3333-official-sega-dreamcast-magazine-issue-009-december-2000/#.VsUnWeaur6Y

Says it was submitted to the Download Manager on May 28th 2015

The Revisions for that record show that RetroDefense was the last person to edit that before you did today....back on February 12th 2014

This is one of the reason I am creating these pages. To verify that everything in the Download Manager is in our Magazine Database....and vice versa.

Wow, I guess you're right. I would have sworn I visited that page many times and saw them all preserved except for issue 0, which was always the only one marked missing until we got it earlier this year, but I guess I imagined it.

Well, good work, then!

I am a bit perplexed as well, as my scan of Duo World Issue 1, Mega Play Issue 26 and a few others were marked as Missing and had no download links present.

Added some more query pages. Many of these are just so that E-Day and I can quickly see what information may have been forgotten when creating a new record. Fields such as the Previous Page, Next Page and buying links can't be edited from the front end of the database. For those that are curious what the Folder and File name fields are, well those are hidden fields that work in conjunction with our Retromags Collection Tool. Basically every record has an official name and folder associated to it, which when used with the MD5 Checksum field, will sort your rename and sort your collection and give you a Have and Missing text file :)

The most useful page I just created would be the Magazine Preserved But No Synopsis. This will return back any records in the Magazine Database that have been digitally preserved, but do not have a synopsis of what was contained in that issue.

A magazine can't be preserved and not allowed. I have a hidden field on every magazine record that has a value of 0 or 1. It this hidden "Allowed" field has a value of 0, then no matter if you set the public status to Preserved and enter in download links, those links will not show up. Now lets take Retro Gamer, which is a publication which sells digital versions of their past issues. Retromags has no reason to digitally preserve those issues, because they are already being preserved by the Retro Gamer website. So in those instances, I think we should have a new status flag.....maybe "Buy"....that shows that those issues are available for purchase. This new "Buy" status could used for digital versions and physical versions that are available to purchase from the publisher. Then we just have a "Buy Digital Version" and "Buy Back Issue" button that show up where the Download Links would normally be.

You still have PS: The Official Magazine listed as a UK publication. Are you certain about that? I'm in the US and had a sub for that entire printing. I don't know if there were 2 mags with the same name or if I could provide another batch of covers. I mentioned in another topic that when PSM hit #130 they became P:ToM in the US. Until I find the right boxes I totally forget the dates or how many issues there were.

Going off of this for that one.

This returns of 404 page for me. Is it possible I don't have permission?

Fixed, it was set for only E-day and I to view. At the present time the Official Download Link field is only editable by E-day and myself. This is a throwback to when our Official method was filefactory and we didnt want users to change that link to another source. I am looking to open it back up for at least Team Members to be able to edit.....the code however is "interesting" as to how it allows this to happen.

Interesting I think the query is not quite correct on some of them. I queried missing checksum. The list that came up, every EGM on the list has a checksum on the file already. As well as the game buyer issue 4 I did.

Your thinking of the MD5 Checksum field in the Download Manager that all Team Members can edit and is displayed to users. This is a hidden field in the Magazine Database that the Retromags collection tool works off of. My goal is to have it so that Team Members only need to put the CheckSum into the Download Manager, and it would copy over to the correct record in the Magazine Database. For right now, E-day and I are filling them in as we come across missing ones.

Technically, I actually want a PHP script that calculates the checksum automatically when a new release is uploaded, then it would display that checksum in the Download Manager and the Magazine Database.

That is weird, because I edited those and uploaded them myself. I doubt I would forget to add the download links and change the status to Preserved.

While you are creating all those new pages, what about one that shows magazines marked as Preserved®, so that anyone can easily see the full list of preserved magazines that need an updated scan?

I did run two SQL queries, the first was....

If ALL the download fields are empty, and the status is set to Preserved, set it back to Missing.

then I ran....

If ANY of the download fields are filled and the status is set to Missing, set it back to Preserved.

But those two queries should have just fixed bad statuses in the magazine database, it would not have actually removed the download links.
