Man, multimedia sure was expensive back then.  They mention an upgrade kit that contains a CD-ROM drive, a soundcard, and speakers - all for the low low price of $1300!  And for another $180 they'll toss in a subwoofer.  Add on the cost of a $2000-$3000 PC and it's obvious why my family's PC was usually not up to the task of running the most current games in any given year.
