Turbo Grafix magazines

I see that some Turbo Graphix-related magazines have recently been uploaded.

Were these originally sold at retail, or were they subscription only?

I only ever saw the TG-16 for sale at the local Radio Shack. There was very minimal software support, and I never met anyone who actually owned one. I have yet to see one turn-up at a thrift shop or used game store. I had no idea that there were (at least) two magazines published in support.

I saw the TG-16 in Toys  R Us in Canada in the late 80s/early 90s. I never saw any magazines though. TurboForce was published by Sendai, which is who published EGM, Mega Play, Super NES Buyer's guide and several others. There is no bar code on the cover so I suspect it was also subscription only as well since there is subscription info on the Table of contents page. Or was sent out by TTI as a free newsletter sort of thing like Sega did before Sega Visions and Nintendo before Nintendo Power.

The small handful of ads are all from TTI themselves.

I do not remember there being a Toys R Us store in Halifax, Nova Scotia when I lived there in the late-1980s/early-1990s. Of course given my age and lack of interest in console gaming at the time, I would have had utterly no reason to shop there. I  think that I first went into a Toys R Us store around 2008 when I finally bought a PS 2 console; I remember buying some arcade game compilations.

I remember picking up a 4 page promo for a Turbografx magazine at a Toys R Us  when holidaying in Florida during mid-1992, though can't recall seeing the machine itself. I was a Sega fan at the time, so was probably distracted by the Genesis titles.

Did EGM give away a free issue of Turbo Force with one issue? I own a copy of Turbo Force Vol 3 (Jan 93) and assume that's how I obtained it.
