This is VERY cool. A few of these series will be completed / nearly completed by this release. Should we go through the database and mark all of these as "Scanning" to prevent any overlap?

I've sent Phillyman the list in the required format so that he can automate that change. I wouldn't want us to have to go through and change the status of over 800 database entries manually.

This has been completed. Now magazines in our database will be flagged as

Scanning

And if you open up you should see the Status note of

It looks like this job changed all of the issues that we already had scanned on this list to "Scanning", so now it looks like we don't have them. Is there a way to switch those back to preserved?

Fixed, flipped back 41 entries from Scanning to Preserved where a download link existed.

So these are still being scanned and appearing on DropBox. I am downloading the zip file batches as they appear.

Everything is in PDF. I have started editing some of them. Since they have OCR some of the pages are a bit askew and the colours are a bit dull.

Once everything is scanned, I plan to unzip everything and put them on the Retromags NAS. Anyone who wants to edit will be able to grab an issue (remove it from the NAS so no one else works on it at the same time) and work on it to release. I'll also put out a few pointers on how to best deal with PDFs in Photoshop and what to do if one of the PDF pages won't open because of an error.

So it looks like the scanning is done. Below is the list of everything that was scanned that I haven't yet edited. Everything is in PDF. The best method I found in dealing with them is to extract the individual pages using PDF Shaper Free and then open them up individually in Photoshop. You may find an easier way. @bogusfrank has worked on a pile of these already so he may have a better method.

Attached to this post is the Photoshop action I use for these scans. It flattens the image and saves a JPG version before applying any colour correction and saves a full size version of the issue and a version that is 2200 pixels tall, which is our standard.

Some scans will have missing pages or pages too damaged to salvage. In that case I think the best thing to do place our Missing Page placeholder (included in this post along with our Thank you pages) in its spot and mark it as preserved but needing a rescan; I don't think holding back an entire issue because of a couple of missing pages is logical.

These aren't the best scans, and some will need to be redone at some point because of overcropping, missing pages and so on. But they are certainly good enough to have on our site and will fill in a large number of missing issues!

Anyone interested in edint anything in the below list let me know and I will make them available to you, probably through One Drive. I am not sure what the best way to do that is yet (i.e one massive OneDrive folder you can download from or individual folders those those who are interested), but we will figure it out.

Hopefully people are interested in helping to edit and get these on the site. If you do, please remember to credit @TheRedEye for the donation as that is Frank Cifaldi's username on here.

As people take stuff they want to edit I will hopefully remember to strike them off of the below list.

So I can do Psm26? It was tagged as a VGHF scan on the db but it looks like psm's are done.

Also I'll help edit any mags too just put some in my Onedrive folder. (That list is HUGE!)

Your scan will be better than the ones scanned for the VGHF so feel free to go ahead.

Do you want to do all the PC Gamer issues? I am tired of editing those :)

If you decide to work on some of these scans on your own by grabbing them from the QNAP, please post about it in here so I can mark it off the list above. That way we don't end up working on the same things and doing the same work twice or more :)

Work on whatever you want! Let me know what PC Gamers you didn't do and I'll uncross them off the list above. Once you pick something else let me know here and I'll cross it off like I'm going to cross off Expert Gamer since Argus is tackling those.
