Swedish gaming magazines?

Hello!

I'm Hanna and I'm planning a project of scanning Swedish gaming magazines, 90s and 00s. I feel that database needs more scans of non-English and Japanese magazines. I scan a lot in my job as a archivist, so I thought this would be a good idea and it's also a nostalgia thing, I grew up with most of these magazines.

But yeah, just a little introduction for my project. You can find me on Twitter @/gaminginthearc. I don't update so much now, it's just, some random comments for now, but if you are interested for what happens when I start for real, follow me.

Bye!

That sounds nice.

I think more magazines from all over the world is a good idea. A while back I was actually trying to find some Swedish game magazines for a reference in something I was doing, and all I could find was a (presumably) incomplete list of magazines, with no actual issues anywhere.

I hope the lack of responses here isn't a sign of lack of interest in this. I'm not sure if this project is going on anymore, as I couldn't even find that Twitter account (but that could be just my bad social media skills, I'm not active in those things).

But assuming and hoping the work is still going on: lycka till Hanna!

I am all for magazines from around the world. Its just I dont read the language and its hard for us to get our hands on them. But if someone can provide a starting point...

  • Name of Magazine
  • How many issues.....even if approx
  • Month and Year of each issue

We can stand up a database section for it and a gallery section, and start putting together data and grabbing cover images.

I'm trying to slowly build up a library, so if you one day need any help with something that involves Swedish magazines, just ask.

And I forgot that I could just have linked the account

it's still there, just not very used, because real life came in the way and I don't have time to use the scanner when I'm at work (I'm just like a intern, so I don't work that much and yeah, my  so trying to figure out how to get my own one.

But the project is still active in my head and have it planned, so just that last thing the scanner needs to be mine.

And also, tack, for the nice and supporting words 💕

I'm slowly starting to figure out the numbers of issues and things, but I have a pretty good idea, or at least on the 5-6 different magazines I've planned on scanning (the biggest ones and the ones I grew up with, so anything before Nintendo is hard, I know there's lots of people that would like those scanned too, so I hope someone else can take that on one day).

I happened to find an excellent article about Swedish gaming magazines.

Here's the link:

https://martinlindell.com/2024/01/07/svenska-speltidningar/

It's quite recent too, written just over a month ago, and it covers presumably all Swedish gaming magazines at least by name. An excellent read for anyone who is interested or who wants to keep track of magazines that would be nice additions to preservation projects like Retromags. The article is in Swedish, but those who can't read it in the original language can use Google translate or something else, the article seems to translate without bigger issues.
