Stuck On An Island - Game Draft 2008

Inspired by the Stuck On An Island thread here and by a similar subject that came up on the GameFAQs Final Fantasy message board, I've decided to copy their Island Game Draft over here.

What the Draft is all about is an imaginary scenario where all the players are sent to a stranded island. On this island, all survival needs are met, food, clothes, shelter, etc. However, you are all alone. Now this could be horrible, except you are given electronic entertainment to keep you happy. There’s one problem, only one copy of every game exists for the players of this draft. So great games go fast.

Sign your name below within the next week to be eligible to pick in the draft. I'm looking for a good number of players to keep this interesting.

Here’s the rules (modified slightly from the GameFAQs board):

RULES

*This draft shall last twenty rounds. If interest dies off, I'll cut rounds. If we want to keep going, I'll add rounds. But right now, I'm thinking 20.

*Draft order will be randomized before the first round. The draft shall go serpentine. That means whoever gets the last pick of the first round gets the first pick of the last round. and vice versa. This basically means that draft order shall be reversed every round.

If anyone can describe a better draft ordering system before we start, let me know.

*Only one version of a game may exist. Once it is picked, all other versions are deleted. Meaning if I pick FF1 as my pick for the NES, you cannot pick the PS version.

*On that note, please clarify what system you'll be playing your game on.

*Please bold or italicize or **star** your pick. This'll make it a bit easier for me to keep track, since I'll be putting up what everyone's picked after each round for handy reference.

****Try to write a little bit about the game you have picked each round. We don't need any essays (although that's fine too!), but a little bit about each game at least would be nice.****

***********Please try to make your picks promptly. I realize we all have lives, and work, and whatnot, but try to make your pick within a 48 hour window ((preferably less!)). If that amount of times goes by, your pick will be skipped, and go to the next person in line. If your pick is skipped, you may jump back in and make your pick any time, and the draft order will revert to normal. If you miss repeated windows.........I don't really know what I'll do yet. So try not to miss too many picks!******************

*NO compilations allowed. For ANY reason. One game per pick. This even applies for Super Mario Bros/Duck Hunt. You may pick one, but not the other.

*You can make picks for any system! From Arcade to Atari to NES to PS to XBox360 to PC and anywhere in between.

*Try not to drop names of games in posts. But that's more along the lines of less obvious games. I think we're all aware of the existence of the final fantasy series, but we're all not aware of....(brings up random game)....The arcade game Thunder Hoop III.

*Sequels=Different games

*Expansions=all games come with their expansions, downloadable mods are included.

*No cheat devices allowed. No game genies, no um.......other ones.

*Please ask if you have any questions/need clarification on a rule.

I'm in ...

Whats systems and PC games also??? (PC also means laptop)

also can the game be coming out also... in like a 2 -3 months

here is a idea

a little story to go with

it's Halloween (any holiday and what year)

You have family over seas ...

You get on plane with others ...

but the plane don't make it...

this will give a time frame for the game that could be in or out

Any game is available from pre-arcade coin-ops to today's newest console and PC games. PC includes anything for modern Windows back to the first home computers. If one really wants something from the old mainframe era even, I'm sure some emulation can be worked out.

By the way, everyone will have the necessary console, controller, etc, to play any game they pick. However, multiplayer is limited to online only, since you are alone on the island (don't ask how you are connected to the internet, lol). Each person also has a personal desktop/laptop computer to play those games on or surf the web for hints. No sending messages asking for help off the island though.

I think we'd better keep the available releases to things out already. If a game comes out while the draft is going, it's available for picking then. I may run a draft annually if it goes over well, so you might be able to pick new things then too.

Now this might be because I'm not that long out of bed, but I'm a bit confused... it all sound a bit (over)complicated to me

At first I thought this might be some kind of arcade highscore competition where we would pick a game and we would play a week or so until we have a winner and then one of the other players gets to choose another game for the next week.

But that's not it, is it?

More like an expanded Alone on an island fantasy gamepick?

Yeah, it's more the last thing you said. We each take turns picking a game we would take with us onto our own deserted island. One we pick a game, no one else can have the same one, or even remakes of it. It's supposed to sort of be fashioned after an American pro sports draft, where players are drafted one at a time in turn.

Come on Phillyman, you know you want to join in too, as this is partly inspired by your own island thread. And, you said you wanted to bring more life to the forums. So how about a little friendly participation here? :)

Heh, I don't really follow sports much either, except overall trends for my home teams. Like I'm still waiting for the Brewers to get back to the World Series and finally win one (the only other time they made it that far, they lost).

I'd like to get a decent number of people in first. Before we start, everyone will be assigned a random position in the picking order.
