Boom Blox

Recommended Posts

Ah, I thought you would be asking if it's worth picking up. :)

I have bought it myself 2 weeks ago for €21 on blahdvd.com and I have been addicted, especially to the multiplayer mode.

After playing this with my best friend for a whole afternoon he immediately ordered it himself as well.

Haven't made any custom multiplayer levels myself as I still have quite a few items to unlock. But I have tested out the create mode and the possibilities are nearly endless.

If you'd like to exchange multiplayer maps when I get around to making them my friend code is 1456-3845-0056-0662

I decided that Boom Blox sucks. The game itself is great, but I don't know if they did a piss poor job programming this game or what. While playing, the disc is constantly being read, making noise and being annoying. That wouldn't be so bad on it's own, however, it also affects the gameplay. The constant disc reading seems to affect the Remote cursor. That or their code for the remote tracking sucks.

Often time after doing something, like removing a block or flicking the remote, the cursor will stop moving on screen. It starts responding again after several seconds, but this is not acceptable, especially during timed stages and such. I nearly snapped that game in half after playing the second adventure challenge where you have to stop the bears and raccoons from stealing your gems by throwing bombs at them. After throwing a bomb, I cannot move the cursor for several seconds a lot of times, which causes problems when trying to stop 102 enemies from taking your gems.

Is anyone else having these problems? I have read about a lot of other people having this problem. I am using a wireless sensor bar, but I doubt that is the issue since every other game works perfectly. I will try it with the regular sensor bar, but I doubt that will change anything. If it doesn't, I am not keeping this game. The problem is way too frustrating for me to tolerate it since it affects how well I do in the levels and thus what gets unlocked and what doesn't.

Very strange. Never had anything like this happen in the game. Not once.

I'd say check your settings, like the sensitivity of your sensor bar and such, but you say that other games don't show any problems... :-/

Any lights that might interfere with the IR sensors could cause this as well, even reflections from say a glass coffee table between you and the TV.

Never noticed that the game makes so much noise either. Will have to test it tomorrow.

I'm going to give it another try later tonight with the regular sensor bar. There is nothing interfering with the signal as every other game works perfectly. No glass in the livingroom except for the actual tv screen :)

Check the disc VERY carefully. I had something similar happen on my Trauma Center (Hey there weren't many games out at release and it SOUNDED cool). The problem ended up being a very thin scratch on the cd. The wii kept trying to read ahead and would find the scratch then try again...and again...and again... Sometimes my actions would interfere with the Wii trying to work out what was missing from the scratch and would cause a slight pause.

I don't know if it is exactly your problem but it sounds very similar. If you have a cd cleaner / repair try running it through and see if that fixes the problem. I rented BB once and I didn't seem to have/notice those problems

Hope it works for you.

There is not a scratch on the disc.

When when I stay on a menu screen, it's constantly reading the disc. I don't think it caches anything on the system since there are zero load times. That might be why it constantly does that.

Anyhow, I tried the game again with the regular sensor bar and adjusted the sensitivity to 5. Same problem as before. Often, after I flick a bomb at the bears/raccoons trying to take my gems, the cursor remains stuck. Sometimes I have to smack the remote to get the cursor moving again (there is nothing wrong with either of my remotes), sometimes waving the remote around wildly gets the cursor moving again, and sometimes after several seconds the cursor starts moving on its own again. Needless to say, it interferes greatly with the levels where you have to throw bomb balls at moving adversaries trying to get you or get your gems. The rest of the levels seem to work fine.

Another annoyance with the game are the shooting levls where you have a laser gun and have to shoot point blox flying through the air. Anytime you hit A to shoot, the cursor moves. Terribly annoying. I might just play through the non-annoying fun levels, and forget about the rest of them. I have plenty of other games to play.

Hopefully they fix these problems with the upcoming party bash.

Boom Blox is an awesome game. The day I bought it I had to stop because my arm wasn't working anymore LOL. I don't have any of those troubles mentioned here, mine works fine. I didn't make any levels yet if you have one please share :D

I bought it a while back after hearing good things and only just played through it like a week or two ago. Great game, never had the issues you described. There was just one mission near the end that I skipped because I hate how you need to point/aim then throw when trying to turn the camera and knock down dozens of incoming enemies. That was the one spot where the control method wasn't fast enough. If I had bombs or the hose it would have been fine because perfect aim wouldn't be as necessary.

I had no problems when playing the Western levels where you need to shoot a pistol at the bad guys. But when I was required to throw bombs ant incoming bears and raccoons trying to steal gems, that is where the controls screwed me over. After flicking the remote to throw the bomb, the game wasn't fast enough detecting that my cursor was pointing back at the screen instead of off screen. So on most of those levels I only managed to get bronze, and in some cases, just barely.

Idislike those levels and the shooting ones with the laser. I adore the ones where you have to dismantle things and blow things up. BUt anything witth shooting flying blox or repelling incoming hordes annoy me.

I can't get gold on the chemical blocks, that you have to blow up by launching a chemical block with the hose. The angle on the side ones is impossible. I think it's the second from last in that series.

I have to take a break from that game for a few days as my arm and elbow hurt now from playing it too much yesterday.

That's going to last another day  It was the same for me. I didn't realize I had played for hours until the pain.

Same here. Until I figured out that I didn't need to do the throwing motion using all my strength. :D

Just a very quick flick from the wrist will give you a high power throw as well.

This weekend I actually hurt my back playing House of the Dead Overkill.

You'd wonder how that is possible.

Well my best friend came over to come and get his version which just came in so we played the game for over 4 hours in multiplayer mode.

So much fun!

My arms started to hurt after a couple of hours since I've started using the Perfect Shot handgun, but I kept playing on.

That evening when I went to bed I could feel that I hurt my back a bit. It wasn't until I woke up again that I knew just how bad it was.

In the end it was all worth it though.

At least we are getting a small workout on our muscles. That is more work than we do just using a regular controller.
