Replacement Covers For Games

That site appears to be a strange but interesting art project in which someone is recreating entirely new box art for his favorites games and series.

I'm not sure I would call those "replacement covers," though.

The reason I called it a replacement cover site is because you can get the original cover for most games along with a new redesigned one, in case you lost the original. Also, they convert many original covers to fit the Universal Game Case that supports almost every cartridge released (not sure about Neo Geo though).

Plus, some of those covers are pretty good like the uniform set for portable Zelda or the Gamecube Resident Evil games.

Neo-Geo you can buy what's called a Shock Box wich is mainly used for the MVS games as opposed to the AES but if you needed to you can use them for AES as well.

Anyway yeah I've made several covers for that site. I'm actually working on quite a few that I'm going to hopefully get them to support for a new format on the Neo-Geo Pocket games but... I'm still working that out. (yeah I know leave it up to the local Neo-Nerd  )

Anyway I've mainly used the site for GBA games. You buy empty DS boxes from Nintendo and then store you GBA games in them and print off covers for them so you can display them right next to your DS games. It looks quite sweet actually.

I didn't know you did stuff for that site Thor, is your username the same over there? I am interested in seeing your work.

While some will use it for emulation purposes I mainly posted it for people like Thor said that have the game but no case and can get replacement cases, now you have a sleeve to put in it, rather than having just a blank case sitting there.

Do you know if they have that for NES games. Some place that has the designs I could maybe print onto a sticker? I have a bunch of old NES games I bought used really cheap. Sadly the covers were ripped off of them for some unknown reason. I think they should continue that project to do all different kinds, including NES games.

I wonder what the rules are on copyright and trademark infringement. Seems like they are walking a very fine line there.

I personally purchased original N64 boxes/games and created scans for over 200 N64 games on that site for the Universal game cases sold by places like mediashelving. In the case of the N64 boxes we scanned front, back and one spine and apart from the N64 logo on the spine they are perfect copies of the originals. In the case of DS/GBA boxes I think they are 100% but I haven't really contributed there as I am okay doing this for older systems no longer made/supported but didn't feel comfortable with it for newer systems. there are people making custom covers though ... and some are very nice indeed

Hidinger, some NES, along with other system's, games have lables too. Double Dragon III has a lable and box art available, take a look around and see what they have. They also have a forum over there for requests and such, just sign up and request lables for the games you would like them for.

Honestly I don't remember it's been a while since I've uploaded.

So it's under one of my names:

Ayce, Techno, Thor, Tehcno, Ayce78, or DarakuTenshi.

But like I said these covers are going to be lick Shock Boxes but for the offical NGPC clam shells. So I'm having to come up with the template my self. But here is an example of the SNK vs Capcom that I'm doing right now

example.jpg

I've had to go in and recreate all the icons for the covers otherwise they looked way to pixelated.

Like the link cable or 32 meg and even the Pocket logos.

[edit]

Yup... it's listed under Thor

but... I can't seem to find any of my covers on there anymore???

Here is a post that I found for the first one that I did so I posted it in the forum where someone was asking for it. Almost at the very bottom.

Even the link to the file has been deleted. Sigh? Oh well at least I know I'm using it on my game :)

Yeah it depends. I use a program called GIMP which is a free program that works just as good as Photo Shop. Everything I do I do it with GIMP. Anyway I make several scans my self or try to find high quality scans on the web that I can use then I'll clean the image up before using it on the final project (which usually takes a lot of time with 3000x3000 size images) but the results come out great. Then I'll also make my own custom graphics and screen shots for the games.
