Where Do I Start?

Hey all. I know Philly from another forum and sorta forgot he had this site going. What made me think of it is I have a huge collection of gaming items but need to regain some of the space, as in I thought to rid of a stack or two of magazines. Instead of junking them I wanna ask what you need, but I'm not sure how up-to-date the site is. I read you don't accept anything within the last 5 years which is a shame since that's most of what I have, but there's plenty of older mags. Would anyone want the newer stuff to scan later on? I can do some limited scanning but my scanner is slow and small meaning it'll take a while to do a single mag or guide.

Without spending hours browsing each topic or your DL area, are there current lists of what you're looking for? I'm gonna keep looking around too, so maybe I'll find something. Most of the stuff I plan to rid of is EGM and GI. Possibly Game Players too. Undecided if I want to keep my NP and PSM mags though. I could still read them here and open up more space, yet I don't know if the sets hold any value.

Hello and welcome. :)

It's not that we don't accept actual copies of magazines that are not at least 5 years old, it's just that we don't scan those right now.

We certainly accept those mags as donations and will keep them until it's time to scan and release them.

Most of the members have voiced the opinion in the past that the older mags are what we are here for, not just because of nostalgia, although that's a big part of it. But also because the quality of magazines has gone downhill quite a bit, but that's a whole other story. ;)

There is a big list in the Wiki part of the site, but it's not been updated in quite some time. And to be honest, even though there are lots of magazines online which are crossed of this list, there are several issues which could use a rescan.

So it al depends a bit on what condition the magazines are in, as we have an agreement that if someone is able to provide a better scan which fits into the global guidelines for the site than it can be used to replace an older scan.

I know there are a lot of members on this site that would love to take those old issues off of your hands (even if they are newer), I am willing (even though I have quite the backlog myself). There are a few members that I know of that have nothing to scan so maybe you can work something out with them.

Could you post what you have and then someone that has the time could post what is needed (also, that would allow members that have a que set up of their stuff, could let you know what they have).

Oh, of course. New mags are still readable. The old stuff is what needs to be focused on. You answered my Q though, if someone would be willing to take 'em for future use. I don't think I've ever thrown one away so I have several piles taking up lots of space. Since I continue to collect games I kinda need that space back. Heh.

I noticed it hadn't been updated. I'm sure you all have tons of other stuff to do. As for the condition of my mags the Nin Powers are in rough shape and fallen apart as they were given to me and were heavily read. They're still scannable. The posters were removed too but I think I still have them in a folder someplace. My Game Players are all in good shape, and the newer stuff is near mint (the mail system sometimes chews 'em up just a little). I'll browse around and see what I find, wait until everyone is back from the holiday before doing much.

Tri also IM'ed me so whichever ones wants them is fine by me. I'll get ya's the list later today and then we'll decide what to do. I guess I'm not really looking for much, maybe just shipping. My 'reward' is to not have them hanging around. Haven't given thought to any of my other mags. Although I should probably give in and send 'em, put them in digital format so I can still read them without them taking space. I doubt anything but my NP #1 is worth anything.

Ah ok. I'm still kinda new so I don't know how things are here. Don't want ya's to be fighting over them or something. Lol.

Ok, so here's what I got. Surprisingly it's not all GI. I think EB used to send me GMR since a third of the stack is different. Forgot about them actually. I still don't want 'em though. Also included is the last third, a pile of EGM's, probably also from EB.

--

GI: #163 - Nov 06 through #189 - Jan 09

GMR: #8 - Sep 03 through #24 - Jan 05

EGM: #139 - Feb 01 through #150 - Jan 02, plus #136 - Nov 00, and #167 - June 03

--

Most mags are in perfect shape but a couple have a few snags on the cover from being chewed in the mail system. I tried to remove the labels too, some more successful than others where some residue was left behind. Dunno how you take it off or edit it out.

Alrighty, so that's the stack at this time. Where do we go from here? If these aren't needed, that's cool. I'll recycle them or something.

No worries about people fighting over stuff here, I am pretty sure everyone gets along pretty good. As far as me, I am in interested in seeing the site grow and more members come. I have a ton of mags to scan as it is, don't mind more to scan but I am sure that is everyone here.

As I mentioned in my IM's, e-day currently lacks any mags to scan and I am positive he will do an awesome job with whatever you two decide.

If it is a matter of no one else wants any issues you have and they are going to just goto the landfill, regardless of year, I am interested in taking them (willing to scan them and wait for them to be eligible for upload). I guess I am calling last call on any issues.

Just give it as much time as you can on here since it takes a little while for some members to catch a forum post, as some just get completely overlooked. If I run into anyone else that is out of mags to scan I will make sure to point them here, never know, someone surely will be interested in something you have to offer.

About shipping, you will get a better rate putting the mags in a box and shipping media mail rate (tell the post office they are books, not magazines, for some reason they will not allow you to mail mags with media mail).

What is GMR? I have seen it on ebay and stuff but what mag is similar to it? Never seen it in person.

I hear ya. If anyone wants them, let them have them. But if nobody takes 'em then give you a holler.

Again I'm in no rush. Whenever someone wants them just let me know. No hurry to get them scanned either, if I wanted to read them right away I'd keep them.

Cool. I'll keep that in mind. I'd choose the cheapest option available and if saying the wrong thing jacks up the price, well...

Um, it's a mag. (I know, like 'duh'). It's a little older and it covered the current consoles at the time. The first mag I got was a buying guide to PS2 launch games. The next was about the XB launch. Another issue in the pile compares the GC and XB (as if I didn't already know GC would have better games). It's published by Ziff Davis and has a bunch of EB ads. So in a way I guess it's like the EB version of GI. Which makes sense due to the switch when they began merging. If you want more info I'd have to read through one again.

Nah, don't worry about going back through them. I was just wondering what they were similar to. I appreciate the information you posted, it helped me place the type of mag they are. How much do you think the GMR's weigh?

I'm aware of that. I asked if anyone would want them now to scan for later, before I get rid of them and you gotta find them all over again. That's all. If you want, you can get the EGM's and I can send the rest to Tri since he said he'd take them if nobody else will. I'm just gonna recycle them otherwise as I don't have any attachment to those mags.
