Going One Step Farther Than Other Replacements Plans

Recommended Posts

Thanks to Joystiq.com for the story.

Seems a Nintendo fan's house was burned down and Nintendo is replacing the Wii and Gameboy Advance that were lost in the fire.

Why do I have a feeling that if my house burned down Nintendo would care less when I called them and explained all of the cool Nintendo products that were destroyed.

I am sure there is more to the story than what was presented there. I mean, in the article they mention that Nintendo is only offering to replace the Wii and GBA, not the set of games that are claimed to be lost. Of course, they showed a burned up Wii too. More than likely, it is a publicity thing for Nintendo in that country (where is GoNintendo printed anyhow?).

You might be surprised how friendly they actually are.

In every instance that I have needed their services they have as the article states gone above and beyond.

Broken NES controllers when I was 12? Got 2 new ones without any questions asked.

Asked if there was any way to buy older Club Nintendo issues from them back in the day (early 90s), instead of sending me a letter with the info how I could order back issues, I got 2 thick envelopes instead with about 10 issues for free, just like that.

DS snapped in 2 (broken hinge) for which the warranty had run out by several months, got a brand new one within the week.

Trouble with my Wii, again out of warranty. Got a replacement one within a week, no questions asked, with a replacement bill stating that it would cost me €0 for the service.

That customer friendly service might be seen in the USA or Japan where Nintendo has established their own Company itself as the distributor but in countries like New Zealand where they use 3rd party companies as their importers/distributors I think that type of experience just isn't going to happen. I had a PAL Nintendo 64 cart die on me .... Mario Kart from memory .... and even though the box had lifetime warranty written on it the local distributor wouldn't replace it etc so I had to buy another one. I was the original purchaser & still had the receipt etc at the time so it wasn't like I was a 3rd party purchaser etc.

True ... I never sent the cart off to Nintendo themslves but I shouldn't have had to as the local distributor should have honoured the warranty being Nintendo's Representatives in this country. I guess the difference is Nintendo is big in the USA & Japan while sales in New Zealand were rather small so the local distributor didn't really have much to lose by sticking to their guns from a negative publicity point of view etc.
