Man. First Wal-Mart monopolizes movie rentals with RedBox(which I uh.. use.), now they're killing game rentals! I don't care for GameSpot much, but still, smaller game stores in small towns will be killed by this if it catches on. This is getting a little out of hand.

Don't forget, in Florida they are doing a test run of having a low cost health clinic in the front (like they have eye glass companies and hair stylists and such). Also, they are trying to get into banking too for those interested in the monopoly known as Wal-Mart.

Redbox isn't owned by Wal-Mart is it? I mean, here in Arkansas we have Redbox at fast food places and even at a couple gas stations.

Back on topic, I don't try to sell my games and stuff unless it is either dire consequences or I can't pass up the money offered.

I'm not crying a bit about Walmart's RedBox destroying places like Blockbuster. People want to be able to watch a movie and return it next day for $1. Paying $3.95 for 3 days or whatever it is now (I haven't been in a Blockbuster in 10 years) is just ridiculous. Especially in this economy, people are looking to cut corners without sacrificing their pleasures. Also, I didn't think RedBox was exclusive to Walmart. I've seen them in plenty of grocery stores by me.

Why should the video game rental market be any different? It's not like you can't subscribe to FireFly (which I have no experience with) or just succumb to renting them from Walmart. They are not killing the market, they are just making it more interesting. I don't know about you, but I always look for the best price. If it's at Walmart, I'm going there.

Well I assume Redbox has some deal with Wally World like this company is working to attain, that's the only reason I brought it up. And heck yeah I'd rather pay a dollar for a day instead of some higher price/higher chance of forgetting I even rented a damn movie from Cockbuster. Which is why I do.

I guess you're right about pricing, but I used to work at a great video store and game shop and I really liked the huge selection and specialty stuff we had.. very competitive prices, too(and we illegally put out the DVD movies before the DVD release date..hush hush). I go for cheap price just like everyone else, but I just hate to see small specialty places with decent prices and better selection(not to mention classic games) losing out.

I'd be kinda creeped at first to go to a health clinic in Wal-Mart.. but if it works, it works. I mean hell, I was cured of a disease from a free clinic, so a Wal-Mart clinic couldn't be bad.

It just also bugs me that they're covertly monopolizing like this. They're just outsourcing in a way. Soon all we'll have left is Wal-Mart and nothing else. Then they'll hike prices.

I don't see places like Target or Costco going out of business anytime soon so I doubt Walmart will ever become a monopoly, but I do agree that smaller places may be a thing of the past. However, the internet will always have places that carry retro games and probably have better selections. Honestly, buying online is much more appealing to me than going to Walmart. I'd much rather buy something from Amazon.com anyday. Free shipping and no tax. Can't beat it.

The only brick and mortar store I'll never stop going to is Fry's, especially since they are 1 mile from my house Instant gratification almost always wins!

The clinic thing isn't owned by Wal-Mart it is a completely outside company "renting" space for their business (much like the optometrist's in most Wal-Marts.

Exactly my thoughts, Now I would like the Movie industry to do the same with new movies. I can not stand people who talk, fall asleep or make noise. So let me pay a flat rate of $15 to view a brand new movie in High Definition on my TV...in my own home. No thank you to $4 popcorn and $4 sodas.

I love Wal-Mart (and I also loved the episode of Penn & Teller Bullshit! about Wal-Mart). I haven't heard about trade-in kiosk's coming here (Canada). Either way, it's not likely something I would take advantage of since I don't really trade games in (when I do, it's at EB when they have some kind of good promo going on. Futureshop buys and sells used games, but I never go there for that.

Amazon is awesome too, and I order a lot of stuff from them, but a lot of times I just want to get out of the house and buy something in person, or just browse. Brick and mortar stores will always be around. People will always want to go to a real store. Wal-Mart doesn't seem to have the omnipresence here that they do in the US; they closed all their Sam's Club warehouses a couple months ago up here.

Sometimes nothing beats just going to the movies. Even if you can watch everything at hom on a big HDTV, it's still not the same as seeing it on a huge screen at the theatre, regardless of whether you buy popcorn and a drink or not. This is especially true when movies like Monsters vs Aliens and Up are released in 3D and in IMAX 3D. Movies like that HAVE to be seen at the theatre.
