If you're fan of the Elder Scrolls games you will be happy to know that Bethesda is offering Daggerfall for free. Arena has been offered for a while now. Someday maybe they will offer Morrowind for free too. Good going Bethesda, the fans love you.

Download it from the Bethesda site along with installation instructions using dosbox :D

Their server must be absolutely getting blitzed with requests for that file. I wanted to download it because I was curious if it differed at all from my full CD-ROM version that I have, and on my DSL line I am getting a max of about 3.3k/sec. :)

I remember trying to play the demo for Daggerfall that came with my PC Gamer sub. I think it crashed on me like 20 times in 20 minutes. Never played it again. I guess they've had a few years to iron out the kinks now. Maybe I'll give it another look?

The demo suffered from an awful lot of flaws, especially if you didn't have a real SoundBlaster card in your machine if I recall correctly. DOSBox does such a great job of emulating it now, though, and the 2.13 patch fixes enough of the bugs to render it playable (with fairly frequent saves, naturally). Morrowind is RPG perfection, but Daggerfall came before, and it made me fall in love with the Elder Scrolls games and their open-ended sandbox world.

Areala, have you tried Battlespyre?  I believe that is the name of it, it is the game they released after Daggerfall but way before Morrowind (which I have-my fiance got it for me for our first Christmas, I got her shoes).  They also released a game called Redguard something.  Both under rated games and worth playing if your a fan of how Bethesda does things.

Heck yeah I played Battlespire! I still have my copy, boxed with the manual. :) It's cranky under Windows XP, unfortunately, and since it's a Win95 game and not a DOS release like Arena and Daggerfall, I haven't been able to play it in years. But I'm hopeful that one day I can again loot the Battlespire, converse with the Mock Turtle, and harass the Daedra as a nameless hero of Elder Scrolls lore.

The other game you're talking about is just called Redguard, and it wasn't nearly as fun as Battlespire in my mind, though it had its moments. Lots more swashbuckling and combat-oriented than Battlespire was.
