2d Games On Current Generation Consoles

Recommended Posts

Which current generation console is best if you're like me and you dig 2D games (especially 2D fighting games)? Please note that I'm only concerned with 2D games which retail on optical media, not old-school 2D games that are being put up for sale on the 'Virtua Console' of each respective system.

Are you talking stuff like classic collections?  Hmm, you could really throw a coin in the air and pic a side as far as PS3 and Xbox 360 really.  Neither is getting games on disc that the other isn't as far as 2D goes.  Now, if you add in either the PSN or Live (to which you can access more recent releases like the HD Street Fighter-why isn't that on a disc yet?).  PSN does have a game called Crash Commando while Live has Shadow Complex (more like a Metroid type game) both of which are 2D (well, they are 3D but played from a 2D perspective like Clockwork Knight on Saturn and such).

As far as new 2D games, it seems the Wii has the best selection, though it's incredibly sparse. That Capcom vs takataktoyorodherhcnhweieud game, or whatever it's called. Plus some of the 2D platformers (Wario Land Shake It, A Boy and His Blob).

Wow, I didn't know there was a new A Boy & His Blob game!

Actually none of those are the true answer. If you like 2D then get a DS. I kid you not, there are many great games on that platform and a lot of new and remade games that are 2D. Because it's a portable they aren't trying to push everything into 3D.
