Which Is The Best/your Favourite Of The 'lesser' Consoles?

I hope I don't come across as too pretentious, but I refer to the consoles released between the true 16 bit and 32 bit eras, that never really made it.

The consoles that spring to mind are:

CD-i

Amiga CD 32

Jaguar

3DO

Please feel free to add any other examples.

These consoles were the cutting edge when I first started getting into gaming, and though they were out of my price range, gave me a taste of what was to come.

When I first got into games, about '93, I was already looking forward to the next generation, to consoles like the Saturn and PSX, and started reaing Edge.

At the time, these consoles were already out there, and whjilst I never entertained buying one, I was nevertheless impressed and intrigued by what they had to offer.

As such, they were almost an introduction to the Playstation, which I bought upon it's UK release.

This is the first time I've ever heard of a console called CD 32.

I played one game on the 3DO and one on the Jaguar, and based on what limited experience I have with those consoles, I'd say I'm slightly more inclined to favour the 3DO.

The Jag has Alien Vs Predator, which was a really great Doom clone at the time. Come to think of it, I don't remember playing any other Jag games besides AvP.

I played Road Rash for the 3DO and really enjoyed it. Not only is the game fun, but it got me hooked on Soundgarden!

Anyway, I favour the 3DO over the Jag since it features ports of a lot of other games I enjoy, such as Samurai Shodown and Street Fighter. The fact that my local video game joint had a copy of a pornographic vampire game for the 3DO is all kinds of awesome, and a memory I may never forget.

I have to go with 3DO, it got my long since retired father into video games (he had no problem with me playing them but I think they were just not interesting to him), loved playing Gex for the first time (coming from Super Mario World to Gex was just mindblowing, graphicswise).  I remember the first time I played Killing Time (1st time to ever play an FPS and loved it), Need for Speed, Road Rash, Star Fighter (that really blew my mind since I was used to playing EA flight simulators on Genesis and this was just so cool).  There are plenty more that I liked like Brain Dead 13, the first game to get me to laugh and then there was Psychic Detective, the first FMV game I played (I later went back and started collecting them on Sega CD).

Jaguar was one I always wanted to try out but never got around to.  AVP was at the top of my list with Iron Soldier close behind.

CD-i was the anomoly for me, my father wanted me to buy it since it was advertised with "edutainment" options but I was able to hold off on that one (the local Best Buy had around 130 or so titles for it but over 2/3's of them required the DVI cartridge which was never in stock or included with the system so games like Dragon's Lair and Space Ace were out).

Amiga CD32 was interesting but it was not an option to me to have to order over the phone every game I was ever going to get for it.  That and the games just didn't strike me as anything special.

As far as never released in America consoles, I was always a fan of the FM Towns Marty for some reason and the Super Grafx system (probably a fan of both for arcade perfect ports and no one else around me would possibly ever have one).

Wow, I forgot about the Amiga 32. I have separate memories for each:

Jag: I had a know-it-all friend who tried to impress me by taking me into a friends store and "letting" me watch him play that Trevor Mcfurr game. I was really excited by the system until I saw that.

CDi - I have an aunt who bought every game system at one time. I remember playing through the Zelda games and actually loosing my appetite once at Thanksgiving (true story).

3DO - For a time I worshiped this system. My friend and I would ride our bikes up to Bestbuy to play Crash and Burn and later, Road Rash. Not sure if you dudes remember, but the Road Rash on this system was one of the first games to contain a fully realized soundtrack, complete with watchable music videos (featuring cops and police dogs attacking rashers), as well as for some of the bands themselves (I seem to recall Soundgarden). This is probably the only system (outside of the Coleco and the Vectrex) that I have wanted but never gotten. Might be for the best, though. Can't imagine those games aged very well (except for Star Control 2!).
