What are your thoughts on Mother 3?

Recommended Posts

I know it's been out for quite a while now, and Mother 3 itself even longer, but I think it needs a topic here on Retromags because EarthBound was always a big part of my gaming experiences throughout the 90s. I had been waiting for Mother 3 ever since I beat EarthBound for the first time way back when. I'd like to hear some other's opinions on the game(outside the myriad stuff from Starmen.net forums).

Who else here jumped on the chance to play the English translation of Mother 3 done by Starmen.net? I was just wondering what everyone thought of the translation and the game itself. Comparisons to EarthBound/Mother2 and such.

I for one loved the music, loved the graphics and characters, loved the battle system but I felt the story felt stunted. I don't like that they didn't go as big as Itoi had planned in the very beginning of Mother 64. I can tell that a lot was cut out and the game felt short. Sure, it's a Gameboy Advance game meant to be played on the go, but that just doesn't justify the cuts and shortness of the game. That's just my opionion though and I'd like to hear some others.

I don't think so. Only in Japan and no plans to bring it over. They haven't even put EarthBound on the VC yet, and are not going to.

It's only possible to patch a ROM(if you have the original game) and put it onto a flash cart for play on your GBA, DS or an emulator.

I'd love to see a Mother 1, 2 + 3 cart released here, but I don't see that happening for us, either. The American EarthBound fans are left behind by Nintendo.
