I've always liked playing Resident Evil 2 around Halloween but if you really want a good scare I'd recommend Doom 3. I know a few people who think this game isn't all that scary but it definitely freaked me out quite a bit while playing it.

Monster Party comes to mind for the NES and Friday the Thirteenth, but I never really liked that one.

Zombies ate my Neighbors was good fun. It was an early game that made use of the Genesis 6 button controller.

I am impressed someone mentioned Eternal Darkness. That game messed with me so much, the time when it tricks you into thinking the game ends i turned off the gamecube pissed thinking it actually glitched. Good times.
