Final Fantasy VII and VIII are both already available on the PlayStation Store, so the next logical release is Final Fantasy IX. Its release on the PlayStation Network had been hinted at recently; Square Enix producer Shinji Hashimoto recently declared on Twitter that he would bring up the prospect of re-releasing FFIX on PSN at the company's next board meeting, adding that fans should look forward to this week. Sure enough, a video on Square Enix's Twitter (via andriasang) has officially announced that FFIX is headed to the PlayStation Store in Japan.

Fans of the game outside of Japan shouldn't be too disappointed with the caveat of "in Japan." Final Fantasy VII and VIII were both re-released on PSN in Japan first, only to later come to North America and Europe. In both cases, it was a wait of only a few months, so whenever the Japanese release date is announced, it won't be too much longer before other parts of the world see the game as well.

No price was announced, either, but that will presumably fall in line with the other two games at $9.99. We'll have more information as soon as it's available.
