New to DS gaming

Recommended Posts

Oh my where to start! No particular order:

New Super Mario Bros

Pokemon Gold/Silver or Pokemon Pearl/Diamond/Platinum

Game & Watch Collection

Dragon's Lair (DSi Ware)

Brain Age

Elite Beat Agents

Resident Evil Deadly Silence

Mario Kart

Mario 64

Retro Game Challenge

Contra 4

Either of the Castlevania games

Dark Void (DSiware)

Umm... I know there is more but those are just off the top of my head.

I recently bought a DS and was wondering if you guys could recommend what games I should start with. I'm looking for games that I can actually finish, only the best of the best.

Thanks.

What kinds of games do you enjoy playing? Genres that you enjoy can help us to narrow down the suggestions (it's no good suggesting Pokemon if you don't like RPGs, or Mario Kart if you hate racing). Personally, I love the DS for adventure and RPG titles, and I will second Thor's suggestion of "Elite Beat Agents" as a game that is pretty simple for anybody to just pick up and play (plus it's dirt cheap now).

If you like RPGs, especially old-school ones, Chrono Trigger DS and Dragon Warrior IV are perfect choices.

Like horror-themed games? Dementium: The Ward is good. Likewise, Moon (by the same developers) is a good first-person shooter for the DS.

Tell us more, so we can tell you more! :)

Well I enjoy RPG and Strategy the most but sometimes I like breaks from these games and play simple things. The only games I do not like are sports games. I love Harvestmoon games but I'm trying to avoid games that do not end.

Oh, you also might like the Disgaia game they have for DS if you enjoyed the PS2 version. It's strategy RPG along the lines of FFT or Ogre Battle.

That sounds interesting I'm a huge fan of the Ogre Battle games.

If you're into music games...

Elite Beat Agents (as well as the Japanese games that spurned the American version: Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan and Moero! Nekketsu Rhythm Damashii Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan 2)

as well as Taiko no Tatsujin DS and the sequel Meccha! Taiko no Tatsujin DS: 7tsu no Shima no Daibouken (the Taiko Drum Master games)

All are really good.

Did you get a DS Lite or DSi? If you got a DSi, there is a ton of good DSiWare. Mario vs Donkey Kong: Minis March Again, Glow Artisan, Rayman, The Oregon Trail, Pro-Putt Domo, Art Academy: First Semester (if you enjoy drawing even slightly); Shantae will be available soon as well.

It's a DS Lite because I wanted to play GBA games on it. :( Besides Dsiware the other things that come with the DSi seem useless to me.
