Hate My Cox DVR, Thinking About Using Mythbuntu

I really hate how my cable company is fucking me, I have Cox Cable and rent a DVR for $10 a month. The issue is that it only has a 160GB hard drive inside and that gets me 20-25 HD TV shows. The damn thing has an e-Sata port and "should" allow for an external hard drive to be plugged in.....but Cox has this disabled.

I have been reading up on Windows Media Center, and Mythbuntu. Wondering if you guys have any insight into either of these options. I only watch the HD channels on my TV these days, so being able to record in HD is a must. Here is a video of Mythbuntu in action.
