Rumor: New HD Castlevania will support 6 player mode

Fans of the 2D brand of Castlevania adventuring may get the "HD" game they've been clamoring for with Castlevania: Harmony of Despair, which publisher Konami trademarked earlier this month.

According to a since-pulled report on Castlevania: Harmony of Despair at never know tech, Harmony of Despair is a multiplayer "Metroidvania"-style side-scrolling adventure, one that borrows its visuals from the numerous Game Boy Advance and Nintendo DS Castlevanias.

The game also apparently borrows its cast from those titles, with screen shots indicating that Soma Cruz (Aria of Sorrow), Alucard (Symphony of the Night), Jonathan Morris (Portrait of Ruin), Shanoa (Order of Ecclesia), and Charlotte Aulin (Portrait of Ruin) will be playable. It also appears to be an Xbox Live Arcade game, based on the interface and Achievements.

This is one of the games that makes me want to pick up an xbox slim. Let's hope that this will spark an interest in creating a new HD version of castlevania for home consoles.

re: 3D - I think people are still cautious about it, given this series' history with supposedly bad implementation of 3D. Then again, I personally actually liked the N64 games, except for the tedious infinitely spawning skeletons.

I hope they have given up on 3D as well but this is not the way to go either. Now that I've seen that video I'm sad to say I'm rather disappointed. I hope it's not as bad as it looks.

They would probably make more sales by doing a 2.5D HD old school castlevania title (like castlevania 1 and 3). Hell, Sega finally took the cue and brought Sonic back to 2D with Sonic 4

I really think these gaming companies are finally getting it right going back to the basics. They've had their time to experiment, and I don't think it's paid off as much as when they just made things that work. I hope they figure it out this time around.

As nice as 2.5D is, nothing will ever beat a well done game with 2D hand drawn sprites. A fantastic job was done with A Boy and His Blob and Wario Land Shake It. There is just something that hand drawn stuff has that can never be duplicated with CG stuff.

Doesn't 2D HD handdrawn sprites take up a lot of time/money compared to 3D? I would love to see one, but I don't think Konami would want to invest in something that might not turn a profit (didn't they give Iga a horribly low budget to work with on Castlevania: Harmony of despair?)
