Advertisement Database Suggestion

Seems a bit pointless to have sections for separate systems considering more than half the games are multiplatform. In my opinion, your better off having each board alphabetically. A, B, C, D, et cetera. As for example, put Tomb Raider topic in T board.

I'll be honest and say that I am not a fan of the Advertisement Database. I have never touched it, and never bothered to see how it was organized. I don't even know which member adds the most to it, or even how many ads there are in it. Maybe it's time to take a look.

The Ad Database was broken down system-by-system simply as a way to allow people to quickly browse things that were relevant to their interests instead of having to wade through every letter of the alphabet or click through two hundred pages of games to see if the one they want exists. If you're a fan of the Super Nintendo, for instance, you just go to that area of the forum and you can see all the game ads we have collected so far, alphabetize them by title, or see what the newest discussions are. You'll notice that multi-platform games get their image uploaded to all the relevant sections (Tomb Raider, for example, shows up on the Playstation, Saturn and PC boards). This takes a bit more time on my part, but I think it is more helpful to the people who are interested in this content to do it this way. After all, we have so few ads that it's easier to browse them like that. Later on, if it grows a heck of a lot, we may alter the way we do it. :)

Right now, I'm pretty much the only person who contributes to and updates the database, E-Day. I enjoy it as a fun little side-project that doesn't take a lot of time to update, and it's a great place to get people talking about specific games. If it winds up just being mine to fool around with, that's fine with me. :)

It's neat, but I don't really see the point of it, either. I know some people definitely like that sort of thing as many people have collected arcade flyers over the years. It's almost the same type deal.

I wouldn't get rid of it at all, I myself eye through them sometimes just for the hell of it.

The ad database was mainly started as a way to have more stuff here for Google and other search engines to catalog and archive and hopefully bring in more visitors.  I see nothing wrong with it and some members get  a kick out of it.  I have referred people to it when asked about certain ads (mainly on podcasts) so it does have a use.

Exactly Triverse, it gave this site more content for Google to index....therefore referring more people to this site. Its the same reason the Gallery was put into place, more content....equals more visitors....equals more posts. If E-day wants to remove it, I have no issues.....just realize that it will probably cost Retromags around 1500 visitors per month. That doesn't sound like much, but at last check we were only getting 10,000 unique visitors per month.

90% of what I did, I had a reason for....the rest was just madness :jester:

Just a thought but maybe, if possible putting up ads now, for games getting remade or released on VC (a little harder to beat to the punch) will bring in more people googling the title.

Like Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 is coming soon.  There are rumors in the gaming world about a new Double Dragon, Battletoads and some other old Tradewest/American Technos games too.

Oh, and a little game that we never got has been translated to English and is scheduled for release later this year on PSN (hint, it was on Saturn, PSOne and 3DO-in Japan).
