I am not big on comics, but I never heard of this character before they announced they will make a film about him. Never saw a cartoon or anything. How come he is so popular right now? I knew about the other marvel characters since the 80s

Dead pool has kind of a cult following among comics fans. He's most associated with the X-Men brand. Likely because he's much to violent and foul mouthed to have had an adaption previously. But he's been around for a long long time. He kind of Marvels comedy relief / 4th wall breaking character. Often talking directly to the reader, almost like a narrator and main character at the same time.

hyper violence and super sarcasm is a great mix. add in lots of comedy and you've got a winner.
