New game system for an old gamer?

I highly, highly recommend both the Nintendo DS and Nintendo Wii (not the Wii U, just the regular ol' Wii) for older gamers getting back into the swing of things. Both have tons of casual, pick-up-and-play fare that will ease you back into the world of the controller without feeling like you need to grow a third hand in order to use all the buttons, bells and whistles of the brand new systems. :)

The best part is, these are older, last-gen systems now and can be found very inexpensively on both the new and second-hand market. Same with most of the games too. :)

i'll third the Wii/Wii-U comment. i find the Wii-U's gamepad to be incredibly comfortable and intuitive, so i'd recommend that, but i think the Wii still has a larger Virtual Console library if that's more up your alley.

if you go the Wii-U route, definitely pick up Super Mario 3D World. it is fantastic in single- or multi-player modes.

i also recommend NES Remix, which will give you short challenges and updated play experiences with retro games.

if you go with the original Wii, Super Mario Galaxy is an amazing game. it takes the 3d aspect of Mario64 to a whole new world (literally?!) and is totally fun.

Donkey Kong Country Returns, Kirby: Return to Dreamland, and New Super Mario Bros. are all recommended also.

Thank you all for answering my question. I might just get a Wii. I’ve been wanting to get back into gaming for some time. I’ve just not felt like playing those new games. I’m not interested in playing games all day every day. As I have things to do that don’t involve looking at the TV.
