Notable Stuff:

  • The number of people who didn't catch that the GameShortz peripheral was an April Fools joke is truly astonishing.
  • The letter column includes letters from two different people about Cho Aniki, the overly homo-erotic shooter from Japan which never made it State-side. One of these is from Monroe White, a gay man requesting coverage of any games which even obliquely contain representation of people like him. EGM, to their credit, doesn't immediately dismiss his request and states that should they track down another copy, they'll provide screenshots and more information. That's pretty cool for 1999!
  • In issue #117, Alisha Gerard proposed to her boyfriend, Ilan Meighan, via EGM's letter column. This month, EGM is happy to report Ilan accepted her proposal. Hopefully the two are living their best happily ever after. :)
  • Final Fantasy VII sold a record-breaking 2.21 million copies on its first day of release in Japan.
  • South Park on the Nintendo 64 actually outsold Metal Gear Solid in January, 1999. WTF is wrong with people?
  • Pretty gutsy printing the artwork of that topless Harpy from the AD&D Monster Manual on page 102.
  • John Davison is not afraid to hand out scores of 1.0 on games he doesn't like.
  • Sega actually did a couple of the things Hsu suggested in his "Final Word" column, but still wound up retiring the Dreamcast by 2001 thanks to not just a shellacking by Sony but also Microsoft's entry into the console arena with the Xbox.
  • Thanks 2
