Interesting Stuff:
-
Female gamers were not having any of last issue's "How To Score With Women" article. Angie wrote in with her own hilarious suggestions for a reverse of the article, while Jennifer Roesch's screed asked if she was reading a gaming magazine or "Dating For Dummies meets YT".
-
There's always some extra crap bundled away on those OPM discs, making them interesting for more than just videos or demo versions of games. Last month's disc (June 2002) included the bonus content "Uplink" for the PS2 version of Half-Life, along with the codes necessary to get it to work. You need an actual copy of the game to boot, but a simple cheat code entry will let you disc swap and enjoy the non-canonical scenario.
-
By May of 2002, Sony had pushed 30,000,000 PlayStation 2 units to market world-wide. Impressive!
-
The show had been off the air for 12 years, but the voice actors for Tiny Toons were back in the studio to do their thing for the upcoming Tiny Toon Adventures: Defenders of the Looniverse, a 2D beat 'em up featuring Babs, Buster, and Montana Max which seems too good to be true. So naturally it was cancelled.
-
John Scalzi pens a very intelligent critique of a judge who handed down a ruling that films were worth of First Amendment protection, while video games were not.
-
Page 36 features a short write-up on an upcoming Konami release about a pair of female spies (one a ninja, the other a hacker) called "Cool Girl". If it sounds familiar, that's because "Cool Girl" was its Japanese title. Its US localization was known as Cy Girls.
-
One of Clish MacLaver's bits and bobs involves studio Criterion Games working on a so-called "Halo killer". Considering Criterion was known for developing racing titles like the Burnout franchise, this seems like an odd choice. However, four years later in 2006, they released Black. It's a great FPS, but it doesn't seem quite fair to promote it as "killing" a game which had already been out for five years and received a sequel.
-
The only good feature reviewer Todd Zuniga could find with regards to Mike Tyson's Heavyweight Boxing is: "The ring girls have jiggly boobs." Apparently the developers of Big Bass Fishing thought the same, as that's all Joe Rybicki could talk about too.
