  1. Whoo Hoo....you finally were able to log in!

  2. Where will I go now to get charged $4.50 for caffeine In all seriousness, I cut back on my Starbucks a few months ago, I have been hitting Dunkin Doughnuts instead.....where I can get a 32oz iced coffee with french vanilla and a Dunkachino for the girlfriend.....for $4 and some change......which equals the price of 1 drink at Starbucks. http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/busi...rlayoffs28.html
  3. Dear Retromags Community, Back on June 25th 2005 when I first registered this website, I created the rule that we would not provide any scans that were not at least 5 years old. Back in 2005 that pushed us back to 2000, over the next few years that date crept forward. This issue has bugged me on and off for the past few weeks, can anything in 2004 be considered Retro? I think we have gotten to the point where the 5 year rule will no longer work. I have discussed this matter with my staff (Meppi, MBJ, Thor, kbf_private_joker, E-day, Triverse) and everyone agrees on this fact. The Playstation 2, Xbox and Gamecube are not Retro gaming consoles. So we decided to change the date of items we will accept, and again we all decided on 1999 as the cut off date. Please note that we are not changing the 5 year rule to a 10 year rule, but instead we are setting a straight cut off date of December 31st 1999. We realize that this creates a few issues, and we would like to address them here in this thread. Starting immediately, we will no longer accept submissions of magazines that were published after December 31st 1999 Any magazines currently in the Download Section that are after the December 31st 1999 rule, will be removed soon Even though the magazines will be removed from the Download Section, the contributors of these submissions will keep there Statuses At this point we have no plans to change this rule, but we will hold onto a copy of magazines already submitted in case we do push the date forward in the future. On the brighter side of things....changing our cut off date to 1999 does cut down the amount of work needed on certain projects. Before Nintendo Power 001-175 GamePro 001-125 EGM 001-174 Next Generation 001-085 PSM 001-080 After Nintendo Power 001-127 GamePro 001-135 EGM 001-125 Next Generation 001-060 PSM 001- 028 Please post any questions, comments, concerns in this thread. Over the next day you will see a new category in the Download Section and contained within will be the items that will no longer be available in a couple of days. -Phillyman
  4. I have about 500 covers scanned up to this point.......I still have 3-4 banker boxes filled with Nintendo Powers......Plus what I have stored at my work....which is probably about 100 Gamepro magazines. I may just see what Nintendo Power magazines are missing from the Wiki.....to save some time.
  5. As soon as I have all the covers scanned (should be done by Tuesday)......I will rapidshare them together and send you a link Appreciate the help
  6. Ok its that time again for the Retromags community to step forward and lend a hand. I am in the process of scanning the covers of my entire magazine collection. I am currently up to 270+ covers scanned, and still have 4 banker boxes of magazines left, plus whats at my workplace. I expect that I own about 600-800 magazines....so that is why I am calling for help. Here is the breakdown.... After the covers are scanned What I can automate Mass renaming to a point Mass resizing Mass importing to the Wiki What I need help with What I can't automate The remaining renaming So here is the problem, lets say I scanned 300 magazines so far, and 63 of them are GamePro magazines. I take those 63 scanned covers and drop them into a folder named "GamePro". From there I run them through a resizing program and bring them from their HUGE resolutions down to something tolerable for the website. So now they are a decent size....but they are named like this..... cover_001.jpg cover_067.jpg cover_184.jpg So now I want to get them named what they actually are......I can use a batch re-namer program to change the above names into...... gamepro_issue_001.jpg gamepro_issue_002.jpg gamepro_issue_003.jpg But they are only named 90% correctly......the triple digit number at the end was just a counter, not the actual issue number. So what I need people to help out with is taking the above and finding out what the actual issue number is and rename the three digit number to the correct issue number. You may be asking, How do I find out the issue number? Well most of the magazines will state it on the cover, and for those that don't......just go over to MagWeasel's website and see what he has that cover named at After you have renamed the covers you can upload them back to me and I can auto import them into the Wiki for preservation I will most likely be breaking down the workloads to 25 covers, So all you need to do is post in this thread and let me know how many workloads you can handle. You rename them....upload them back to me and I will hook you up with a 2 month Premium Member subscription to download magazines for each set of 25 covers you rename. The renaming should only take about 20 minutes to complete.....and you would be helping us out immensely. Plus once this is done I can get back to work on scanning full magazines. At 600 magazines we will have 24 workloads to be completed. Once this project has been completed.....any further magazines I receive I can handle processing myself. Any volunteers
  7. No no .....not at you.....at the people on Digg that complained about navigation http://digg.com/gaming_news/1000s_of_class...issues_for_free Some of the negative comments can be found in there.....will find more when I have a chance......my comment above was toward the people who post negative comments about Retromags on other websites without even signing up for an account here .....which sends them the instructions on how the site works
  8. The site is not Black.....your contrast and brightness are messed up if the site shows that way. I view this website from multiple computers at work.....and on some it does show up Black....but fixing the brightness changes this. Anyways, the little bastids that complain about this site being hard to navigate are most often leechers who just want to download magazines and give nothing back.....while I could probably make the Downloads button start flashing "Magazine Downloads" in a rainbow of colors.......I just cant find a reason to waste my time in doing so.
  9. Luckily the Arcade, Battle System and Casino are all maintained by 1 website......and I am sure they will have a way to upgrade
  10. A major revision to this site will be coming along in a few months, This site will be upgrading from Invision Power Board 2.3 to Invision Power Board 3.0. I think we may want to see if the new version gives us better control over the home page before reinventing the wheel See a Preview here http://ipb3preview.ipslink.com/index.php?app=portal
  11. What if we didnt use either a CMS or HTML for the main page......What if we just did a straight Flash page where users could pick from 4 locations? Forums Downloads Wiki How to Help
  12. Yea but I would want to use a CMS, I like to be able to update things from wherever I may be. If I use straight HTML....I have to have a FTP client and such with me at all times
  13. Only 1 problem, Mediawiki is lacking in the Skins department.....We get a bit more flexability with Invision. Plus there would be no way to stream the latest magazines or topics to it.
  14. Very Nice! Glad to see people jumping in and scanning. I just got my computer all fixed back up and will be joining you guys next week with a scanfest
  15. Retromags is comprised of a few different systems.... Invision Power Board - This is the Forum, Downloads and the Home Page (Portal) Flyspray - This is the WIP section MediaWiki - This is the Wiki section Now each of these systems are PHP based and kind of strict in what I can do with them. We have had a discussion before on how to clean up the site.....my idea was to get a content management software such as Joomla or Drupal. This would serve as the Homepage and provide us a bit more flexability in what we can do for a homepage. We could assign out permissions for users to keep the front page updated, and also we could get rid of the Wiki and integrate it into this section....allowing users to use a GUI to create articles. Meppi believes we should go to straight up HTML for the website....and then give users the ability to create their own HTML pages and upload them to this site. We couldnt agree on which way to go....so we kinda just left the site as it is. If you want to see another (BIG) site that uses the same type of setup as us....check out this site. I am sure with some work we could create a clean cut and organized site with our existing setup.... http://gbatemp.net/ -Rob
  16. Whoops I am 5 days late on this.......Time for some deletions! You know the drill.....if you have ZERO posts AND have not signed into Retromags within the past YEAR........Adios! 500 Members Deleted! Next Pruning takes place April 10th 2009!
  17. Roughly about an hour ago I beat Ganon.....what a way to start off 2009....beating a Zelda title finally. I have not even been close to beating a Zelda game in the past 20 years. I beat the GBA version of the game....told me at the end that I used 28 lives. I ended with all the items and 19 1/4 hearts. Very good game.....now onto beating Twilight Princess.....which I will have to start over from the beginning......since I forget the story line. If your wondering why it took me like 4 months to beat LTTP.....I only played it for about 10-15 minutes a day....any longer and my legs would have fallen asleep
  18. Just got Facebreaker and Turok for $20 , Plus Ninja Gaiden for $13
  19. Damn we are only like $5000 short in the Retromags fund.....can anyone help out so we can purchase this?
