Yeah, I'd go with 1440 without a doubt. As for the PDF thing, there are indeed quite a bit of pdf files on the site, but that's only because certain people prefer that format for whatever reason. And it must be noted that those are all secondary copies. So when accepting new issues we'd take cbz and cbr files only, since 95% of people around here use those and only those. If others want to convert them to PDFs and put them up as secondary versions, that would be fine. At least as long as we don't get into trouble with storage capacity or anything like that. If we ever do, I'm afraid the PDF version would be the first ones to go, since they are just that, duplicates of the original CBZ files.

Another example, Cesar the Orangutan who dresses in all white, has one of those thin mustaches just above his lip and calls everyone "highness" just made a comment how 2 of the girls in town that used to be close friends had a huge fight. And he seemed to be flabbergasted as to what could have happened. But then he commented about how he's the last person to know how girls are.

Hehe, well it depends on how you look at certain things. But I'm sure that there are plenty of little things in there that were put in place so that they could be interpreted in various ways. There's just too many instances of certain characters saying the most inappropriate things at times. Not all of them mind. It certainly depends on their character. Someone like the Yuka the Koala is simply sweet 99% of the time, and there are only a couple instances where you can see something like in the above pic, and even then it's stretching it a bit. But others like Tom the cat can be quite nasty in their own right, just as Limberg the orange mouse with blue ears. He is such a foul creature. I had him in my DS version and he's my all time favourite critter. I look at it like with the Simpsons, where a child can laugh at the things Bart does, but at the same time an adult can laugh his ass off with the things Homer says or does, even though this would go over most kids head. And yeah, I'm starting t notice the anima tracks as well. Seems like the grass doesn't grow back quickly enough even if you avoid running in the same tracks over and over again.

at E-Day taking that sexual context thing seriously. And I don't have a mortgage myself, so I do enjoy having a virtual one.
-
It could be me but seems like there's a lot of sexual undertones in the dialog, at least in my village. This girl has some freaky fantasies going on. Did she actually ask one of the 2 guys that she was talking about in the previous picture if she could join in??? Okidoki, moving along. Yeah, better not comment on this one.... Tom the Triad cat seems to appreciate my skills. What in the world went wrong with this bunnyrabbit??? 0_o

I would definitely be against such move, as it's one of the ground rules which keeps us on the good side of publishers. Besides this rule giving the publishers and all the writers and editors enough breading room to actually sell their magazines without the fear that we might hurt them financially, it also sends a very clear signal that we will not harm them in any way, shape or form. I can understand with the recent happenings concerning EGM that it might seem that it won't matter to them anymore if we scan their newer issues or not. But on the other hand it might also be seen that we will change our rules whenever it might benefit our own needs, which I don't think is a good signal to send out. Even going as far as letting other publishers see that we do have scans of recent issues up on the site might encourage them to take legal steps as they might think that we may possibly start scanning their new magazines as well. In the end we are Retromags and that's what we will continue to be.

Nothing to do about it sadly enough. EGM lost me as a reader about 5 years ago when things started to change in such a way that weren't to my liking, and I never really liked 1UP tbh. But that's besides the point. It's just another sign on the wall. The times aren't what they used to be and the industry has changed too much for it's own good in the last 10 years. Seeing something quite similar happen to several top quality magazines, such as CVG and OSSM makes me feel a bit more indifferent about the EGM thing today. If this would have happened 10 years ago it would have been much more tragic from my perspective. As I see it now it's more like they were dying a very slow death over an extended period. Still sucks to see one of the big classics finally being put to rest though. Perhaps a bit unrelated, but still worth mentioning I believe is that this is exactly the reason why we don't want to scan anything that is even remotely relevant today. If you want quality magazines to survive then you will have to support them, otherwise within a couple of years there will be none left. So instead of googling for pdf's of this months issue of whatever magazine, do the right thing and pay for them.

This is a really good point. Right now over here in Europe, lots of web shops are having a new years sale, so instead of paying €60 for most games in the local stores, I tend to buy almost everything from UK web stores now. The low Pound also is a big plus right now. I have in these last couple of weeks bought The Blob for €21, Shaun White Wii for €26, Trauma Center New Blood for €22, Okami Wii for €16, Soul Bubbles DS for €12 and so on. Where normally these games would cost around €36-46 online or if I were to buy them in the local Belgium game shops €50-60 which is pure theft in my eyes. What I have also done is look at the things I tend to enjoy most and focus on that. I used to buy every single console and portable that got released, up till the PSP. But there are just too many games out there to play if you actually have to work for a living during the week. So instead of buying huge amounts of games that I only spent a couple hours tops on, I just got myself a Wii and a DS since they fit my personal gaming needs best. (Nintendo Games+Nice collection of Sega support as well as a wealth of quirky arcade style games which used to end up on Sega systems in the past). And if I ever end up getting a 360 or PS3 down the line, I will be able to pick up the system for less than half the launch price and the games for €10-15 instead of the ridiculous price of €60-80 they dare to ask for them over here.

That's weird. I thought I had replied in this thread already. Guess I didn't. Since the Arcade Donkey Kong and Donkey Kong Jr keep on repeating as well as the Game&Watch versions which were the very first videogame systems I owned back in the day they came out. My first one would have to be Super Mario Bros on the NES. I remember that it took me a long time though and that I had broken 2 controllers in the process. Whenever I died, I used to bang them on my knee until after lots of abuse they were both busted. But even in those early days Nintendo got the best customer service ever and replaced them for free.

Damn, I just checked my copy as I knew I bought one back during the Saturn days but it doesn't have the manual. :( I remember starting the game long ago and loving it, but getting stuck about 3-5 hours in and having no clue what to do so I never went back to it...

I'm at 52 games myself right now and I couldn't agree more. A systems strength shouldn't be measured by the amount of worthless games that get released on it. If that was the case the PSone and PS2 would also be some of the worst consoles ever made... I hate to see the pony training games on Wii and all the Wii Sports wannabe rip-offs (yeah, they aren't even worth of being called a regular rip-off ) as well as the imagine line of games on the DS being released and clogging up the shelves at stores. But they can't force you to but those games no matter what. So just ignore them and if enough people do that, they will go away. For a system that's just over 2 years old and already has such classics as Super Mario Galaxy, Metroid 3, Zelda, Mario Kart, Excite Truck, Fire Emblem, Smash Bros, Wario Land, Wii Sports and Animal Crossing as well as some great quirky games from 3rd parties like Bloom Box, Trauma Canter, Kororinpa, Elebits, Ghost Squad, No More Heroes, Wii Love Golf etc. there are actually too many games for me to give them all the playtime I'd like to. And looking into next year, even keeping in mind that Nintendo doesn't want to reveal much in advance we already have Pikmin 3, Sin & Punishment 2, Punch-Out, House of the Dead Overkill, Mad World, The Conduit and quite a few more. So I don't see Nintendo slipping further away into oblivion, I see it quite the opposite way. The GameCube, which although had some great games also saw a couple of missteps for series which used to be on top of their category whenever a game came out. Thinking about Mario Sunshine and Mario Kart for instance. And what the DSi can do to suddenly screw up the DS, I honestly have no idea how someone could come to such a conclusion..... But whatever happens, there will always be haters. Last time around it was the "kiddy" factor and now people seem to long for a Zelda in the Wind Waker style as they finally understand that it came the closest to resembling the original games atmosphere. This time around it's the non-game and casual thing that's been thrown around everywhere and next generation it might be something else again. Oh well, glad I've come far enough so that I can enjoy the games for what they as long as I enjoy playing them.

MAXIMUM The Video Game Magazine Issue 2 - november 1995 (UK) Wiki page here. Download page here. Rapidshare link This is the second in a series of re-scans I'm doing for all the Maximum magazines. Besides the pages being 1440 wide now instead of 1280, they also have been color corrected. These are brand new scans of the issues, so not just cleaned up ones from last time. The magazines have been debinded to up the quality of the scans even more. You might notice than on pages 88 and 89 certain text and images appear to run out a bit. But this is apparently due to printing as both of my copies of this magazine have the exact same problem on those pages. So it's not a fault in scanning or editing. These are the definite editions of the Maximum magazines, so for everyone who loves them as much as I do it's a must to download.

Hello and welcome. It's not that we don't accept actual copies of magazines that are not at least 5 years old, it's just that we don't scan those right now. We certainly accept those mags as donations and will keep them until it's time to scan and release them. Most of the members have voiced the opinion in the past that the older mags are what we are here for, not just because of nostalgia, although that's a big part of it. But also because the quality of magazines has gone downhill quite a bit, but that's a whole other story. There is a big list in the Wiki part of the site, but it's not been updated in quite some time. And to be honest, even though there are lots of magazines online which are crossed of this list, there are several issues which could use a rescan. So it al depends a bit on what condition the magazines are in, as we have an agreement that if someone is able to provide a better scan which fits into the global guidelines for the site than it can be used to replace an older scan.

For Windows that would be winrar, and for OS X I'd say Unarchiver.
-
I'm not really a fan of PDFs myself, especially since it's very tempting for people to compress the image files when packing them into PDFs. Also I like the freedom the CBZ format brings with it, not only due to the available programs that read them, but also since it keeps the JPG files nice and pure. That being said, a CBZ file is nothing but a renamed ZIP, and a CBR a renamed RAR, so by opening one of these with an archiving program you will get to the folder with the original JPG files inside.
-
Sadly enough, none of those are for Wii actually. That's why I would love to see more of those games pop up on the system. With the low development costs and the huge audience it would be a great home to these kind of games. The titles are: Ketsui Varth Xevious Rayforce/Layer Section/Galactic Attack

All the PDF versions of the EGM magazines including the Buyers Guides have been uploaded on Rapidshare. As well as Video Games and Computer Entertainment July 1989, Video Games & Computer Entertainment October 1990 and the new version of GameFan Volume 1 Issue 3 - january 1993.

There have been many requests from people asking for certain magazines to be put on rapidshare lately. To set the record straight, my goal is to have every single release up on rapidshare as well as the site's own download manager. The only thing that's holding it back is time and monthly bandwidth limits. Once everything is up on rapidshare I'll try to keep up with the new releases a good as I can. There will however always be magazines which slip through the cracks. So if you have a particular magazine which you'd like me to upload to rapidshare and doesn't already have a link, just send me a PM with the download page link for that magazine and I'll get on it asap. For the latest additions to rapidshare you can always check this thread.

I don't have a reason to lie about this. Now that I think about it, I'm probably better of not mentioning too much about it at all for various reasons. (might be better to edit out the details...) I've never used an online system to catalogue everything, but I do have everything logged into a ods file too keep track of everything. The last time I calculated how much I spent on everything was probably 5 years ago and I'm better of not doing that again, as it's indeed depressing.

The hardest part of any Mario game is putting the controller down.
-
I'd put it down as never giving a crap about sports games whatsoever and never will. And I believe my membership of the retrogaming club turned into a platinum card, which can't be revoked once I got to the point of playing videogames for 29 years and having collected quite a nice collection.
-
Hmm that sounds strangely familiar somehow.
-
Definitely! The difference is very noticeable. The only part that's still blurry is the far right side of the scan, probably because the magazine is to big for the scanner? If so you can always scans the page in 2 separate parts and edit it together. Photoshop automated photomerge is very good at this. Not sure of Gimp has such a feature as well. It does add quite a bit of work though, to scan every page twice and perhaps edit some of them together manually... It's actually quite funny to me to see someone going through the exact same stages that I went through. I'm still learning after all this time and like I said when you first started out, the best way to learn and get better is by doing lots of editing. After a while you develop certain techniques that work best for you.
