  1. Guess I won't be doing this again then... And a Super Mario World logo wouldn't really fit on a Galaga screen would it.
  2. I think the people might be interested to know that Philly has uploaded the torrent as well as the Mininova torrent. I'll be trying to help out with the seeding despite my limited upload capabilities. But once it gets going, it should be more then fine thanks to the great seeders at google. My connection might be down for a couple hours tonight as we're expecting a severe thunderstorm due to the heatwave.
  3. While things like the C64, Spectrum and such don't really are my cup of tea, it can't be denied that there are lots of people that are HUGE fans of the systems. Along with the fact that these are some of the oldest game magazines around, I'd say go for it without a doubt! I'm sure you'll be making quite a few people happy who might not be finding their thing here at the moment.
  4. Well the last package just arrived. Can't go wrong with a couple of spare sealed DC Pal games for not even €3 a pop. Always wanted one of these little guys, but couldn't get a hold of them. Untill now. And last but not least: Best part is that it's indeed a genuine 100% official new copy of the game.
  5. *edit* These are the correct ones to use which have been updated to include the new 1999 rule. posted February 2nd 1440 one 1600 one I've been thinking about putting one like this together for quite some time now. But all my previous efforts resulted in pages that didn't live up to the standards I envisioned. But I quite like the latest creation and after getting the OK from Philly, I present you with the new THANK YOU page for the releases: As you might notice, the width of the page is 1440 pixels instead of the regular 1280 pixels. That is because I find that the time has come for me to start putting out my scans at a slightly higher resolution due to the standard monitors getting bigger. (widescreen etc.) And also since the broadband internet connections are getting faster and less limiting, it won't be much of a problem to have files that are 20-40% larger than before. Certainly not when that comes with a bump in quality as well. I hope everyone likes it.
  6. Happy Birthday Philly! Just remember to enjoy the coming year and make the most of is, because once you hit 30 it all downhill from there. J/K Being an editor or a scanner means also that you're automatically promoted to premium member, so don't worry.
  7. Nope. Think higher load.
  8. Just got back from the movies. Just to be sure, I'm not going to write anything that could be a possible spoiler of the film. First of all, I absolutely loved it. It starts of quite slow, but then again it's almost double the length of your average feature film. So the good thing about this is that they have plenty of time to delve deeper into the story and therefor into the characters themselves. Once it starts though, it never stops. Not that it's all action all the time. It's actually very well paced. What makes this film stand out so much for me is the Joker. I saw a couple of short clips and teasers and thought to myself, this could be so good if they play things right. And they did. Well, that's an understatement. It's so much more than the hero vs the supervillain. I quickly found myself rooting for the Joker simply because he's so crazy and yet you get a glimpse into how he turned into the person he is now. Which makes him all the more human, even though on the surface he seems to be anything but. There are plenty of laughs to be had as well, but not in the haha, funny way if you know what I mean. Sometimes it's very dark humor and at others it's just in the way he looks at something, says a certain word or simply caries himself in a certain manner or situation. I love the character to bits and I'm so happy that I got to see this, yet at the same time it saddens me that we will never ever see him again due to Heith Ledger passing away shortly after filming the movie... :( I would love to go into more details about the movie, but I won't for obvious reasons. If you only have half an ounce of interest in Batman movies, you just NEED to go see it. And even if you don't, the movie stand on it's own. I loved the original Batman movie all those years ago and thought that Jack Nicholson portrayed the perfect Joker character, but somehow that performance pales to the new one. The other Batman movies left me kinda cold, Batman Returns was only okay at best for me personally and it all went way down from there. I liked Batman Begins, but it felt more like an introduction than anything else to me, which probably was the intention. What's funny though, is that if another friend would call me up right now and ask if I would wanna go see The Dark Knight this evening, I would say yes immediately without thinking twice. The last movie I got that feeling from was Akira Kurosawa's Seven Samurai, which I only saw recently for the first time ever. And I did already re-watch it with a good friend, and I loved the 3 hour and 27 minutes during film even more the second time around. Oh and thanks to the Dark Knight I voted Christian Bale. Wasn't so sure about this after only Batman Begins, but after this one it's a lot easier. I guess I like the darker side in him.
  9. I agree with all you've said Philly. Even the Zelda comment was spot on for how I feel about the series. The only one I disagree on is Sonic. It should stay 2D as well. Both the Dreamcast games were very good, but somehow it wasn't really Sonic gameplay in the same way as Mario transitioned between 2D and 3D. And after the DC things only went downhill sadly enough. Even though these games can't touch the MegaDrive originals, or even the Mastersystem games, I prefer the 2 DS Sonic games above any console one that came out in the last 10 years or so. I believe that Sonic would have been much better in 3D if they had continued in the same way they experimented in Sonic Jam on the Saturn. It wasn't perfect, and not even a full game but it sure was fun. These latest ones with guns and now with swords just make me sad...
  10. Yeah that's true. The new Castlevania fighter doesn't interest me in the least. I'd kill for a real 2D Castlevania game on the Wii... Wario Land is looking better and better. Hadn't seen the new clip before. I really hope that this along with Megaman 9 will sell incredibly well so perhaps companies will take notice and give us some good old fashioned 2D gameplay. Iga has already said that he's watching how Megaman will be received and has been thinking what could be next for Castlevania when it is popular enough.
  11. Ouch, that makes it seem like so much money. Oh well. I've done worse. There definitely is a collectibility facet to buying retro games, but I only buy games that I actually want to play. So I won't be putting them up in a cabinet just to look at and keep them in shrink wrap. And having always bought Pal games since I was little, it's a bit like discovering them all over again when finally getting an original nice looking Japanese copy. We always got bad conversions in the past, like with Ridge Racer above for example. So I love to play these classics now in the way they were originally meant to be played. (full screen, full speed) What I love most about these retro games, besides the games themselves is indeed the incredible package you get, especially with Japanese releases. Great artwork and wonderful box design, coupled with full color manuals with even more art inside. Overall there's so much more care being put into the design of the packages over there, you just got to admire that. Even with Famicom games, I just love the tiny bits in the manuals. Which sometimes aren't even in color, but they are still so nice to look at. As an example, a page out of Super Xevious for the Famicom:
  12. For the 12 games in the last 2 posts it came to €234 including shipping. Most of them are in mint condition and some even new. The only one that was in "good" condition is the Japanese Ridge Racer V, but it was only €10. Always wanted a Japanese copy ever since I got my import system as the European version had some huge black borders and ran quite slow. So an underrated racer as well. I remember how much hate the 5th installment got, and yet once I picked up my Pal PS2 when Virtua Fighter 4 came out, I didn't know what the problem was. It's a great arcade racer. Perhaps all of the complains were by people wanting a more sim style racer or something.
  13. This will be my last big order for quite some time as I'm pretty broke after my latest shopping spree.
  14. Yeah it was a very dumb idea on their part and I remember reading something about wanting to get the bragging rights about being the longest running videogame magazine in the US, but I don't know how accurate those reasonings are. We had another thread about this last year, I think I even started it. And came to the conclusion that it did have something to do with counting Swatpro as well. But how the numbering issue should be handled was left up in the air.
  15. Well the Wind Waker came very close as well.
  16. This is the above game btw: Guru Logic Champ
  17. I just bought something I might be sorry about later since it costs so much. One of the rarest games on the GBA and this person located 2 brand new copies. Cost me €98 .....
  18. I've always wondered, did they take the Japanese TV series and redid the scenes without their costumes with American actors or what's the deal with it. Always thought that seemed to be the case, but I was never interested enough to look it up.
  19. I'm seeing it on Tuesday. Already bought my tickets online so we have the best seats. Seen Batman Begins, but I'm waiting till I see the Dark Knight before making my choice. Must say, Adam West is a classic though.
  20. Oh, almost forgot this little beauty: And got a second Hori Dreamcast stick as well. The one with the green buttons, which I'm going to mod with Sanwa parts as well.
  21. Japanese version including the Paddle controller, which is actually very well made. Despite being quite a bit smaller, it feels exactly like the paddle controller on the original Arkanoid arcade machine. When swirling the know it actually keeps spinning in that direction and it has a nice heavy feel to it. The game is only half as much fun without it. What a dumb move to not bring this to the west...
