Don't most programs use this method? I've noticed that the one I'm using is a bit of a Photoshop Lite clone for lack of better wording, so that might be why it saves scanned images as PSF (Photostudio File)by default. The original files are pretty huge when compaired to the finished JPGs at the end that's for sure.
-
Very strange indeed. In Photostudio I'm seeing the raw ones as 250, except for the cover which is 300. But in Irfanview I don't get any data at all. Except for the cover which once again is in 300DPI. And for the joined versions I get everything from 150 for the cover to 300 in some rare occasions and 72 for the other pages in both programs.
-
The why do I get a resolution of 250 on his scans while yours show up as 72? Strange you're suddenly the team player and we are not, while not so long ago you're the one stating that you'll listen to noone and do whatever you feel like. Again with the condescending personal shit. I'm getting very tired of this. You presume that the only ones who have problems with the way you're doing things are people who don't even read the magazines they download. As I've said several times before, that's not even the point. Stop thinking your better and smarter than anyone on here, because it's getting annoying very quick. It's only natural that mek1's release didn't have such a page, simply because he was just trying to get a feel of how good the scans were. That being said, it doesn't matter where the mags are being uploaded to. These releases travel much further than just this site and you know it. this argument has come up before and again the response was pretty much "I'll do with my scans whatever I want, I don't need you guys so screw you" I think I'm just not gonna bother anymore...

You should really try WipEout Pulse then. It's a bit different from Pure, but it's still just as incredible as always. Easily my favourite PSP game! One of the great options is that you can load your own MP3s into it, so you can listen to all the original Cold Storage tracks from the original games. Cardiodrome, Doh-T and Messij are some of the best track ever. Not to mention Under the Influence by the Chemical Brothers, Atom Bomb by Fluke, X-pander by Sasha and Afro Ride by Leftfield. I'm getting goosebumps right now thinking of these tracks.

Advance Wars: Days Of Ruin $17 Be Quick!
meppi replied to meppi's topic in Current Generation Video Gaming!
You don't know Advance Wars? It's a strategic wargame made by Nintendo's Intelligent Systems. Long running series that debuted on the Famicom and has seen releases on almost everything ever since, besides N64 and GC. GBA version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hSNo0gzkhBs...feature=related It's extremely addictive once you get the hang of it. I've actually bough Game Boy Wars a month or so ago which is the first portable version of AW which was for the black&white GB. -

Yeah I know. But I'd try to only use that if there isn't any other way. I've told you when you first made me a mod about the troubles I've seen on a certain other board (VGI shop), where there were a couple of complete assholes destroying just about every decent conversation that started. They pretty much took over that board and I tried my best to stop it, but the owner couldn't do much as they were customers, and the other mods were afraid to get involved. I warned them that the board was going to self-destruct if things didn't change. But noone listened and I left. 6 months later the board was taken offline and has been ever since. That's why I was hesitant to accept becoming a mod here at first. I'm trying to do thing a bit different this time, hoping to not make the same mistakes and try to keep arguments and fights to a minimum. But with someone like fusoya that isn't very easy. I've tried to ignore his remarks as well, but if you don't react he feels like he's in a stronger position when he brings up his next argument. So in the end I do react, even though I'm wondering if I'm doing the right thing. You might have seen in a previous topic that I even put together a cbr to show him how exactly his way of doing things lowers the overall quality of the releases. That CBR took me close to an hour to put together with all the recropping of his scans and everything. But he simply ignores everything and sticks to his ways, no matter what you put in front of him... I haven't seen anyone act like him on here. Sure, there might be differences of opinions, like with wildlele a couple weeks back. But that doesn't compare at all. And in the end that's all they are, differences of opinion. I honestly believe that the way everyone is working on the retromags project, it would be foolish to have it ruined by an individual with an axe to grind due to past occurrences. The way I see it Retromags is the best site out there for videogame magazine scans, and I would hate to see the quality take a significant drop by having 1 person wanting to do things his way. I'll see how he reacts in the coming days, and if he doesn't change his ways I'll suspend his account. But I would like to hear from eday as well before taking such steps. We would also need to delete his uploads as well, otherwise he could say that we took what we wanted and then kicked him out. We've come across much harder to find magazines in the last couple of months, so I wouldn't worry about losing 10 or so scans that we are sure to be able to replace.

Nah, Philly. You don't have to go against him. That's why I posted this here. He certainly has an agenda against you, that much we know. So you might play into his game and turn him into a martyr to people not knowing exactly what's going on...

Just a couple examples: What the f... does this have to do with anything in the topic he replied in. Basically saying: screw this site, I don't care if it's here or not, I'm gonna do my own thing anyway. I have a lot more stuff that you haven't seen yet, blah blah blah. Bitch, bitch, bitch. Even about a dumb thing like a new skin. Telling new scanners to do things his shitty way instead of letting them simply follow the more or less standard retromags way of scanning and editing. If the quality was better than our regular ones, I wouldn't have a problem with it, heck, I would even use those methods myself then. But that's simply not the case, so why encourage others to take the low quality approach simply because he's to stubborn and stupid to look at his own work objectively. The last time I checked this wasn't fusoyamags, and even though I'm not religious, I'll pray to God that it never becomes just that. I just took another look at the Nintendo Power 5 again and despite it being rescanned by the new member mek1, fusoya still seems to refuse to include the 'Thank you' page at the end of the CBR. That's just simply being an asshole and trying to piss people off. I mean it's not his work, so why does he treat it like his. (where he also should be putting a retromags page at the end of, although seeing how he treats his releases we might be better of not having the Retromags page in there ) Wouldn't surprise me he's actually trying to get Philly to comment on those things again, so he can play the victim on the open board once more since the other members don't know the background story... Damn, I'm starting to hate this idiot...

I really need to go back to that one. Played it up until 3rd dungeon I think before I got sidetracked with other stuff. Even though the game doesn't look like it, to me it feels like a straight sequel to the original Zelda on NES. I know, I know, they are very different on so many levels. But still, there's something in it's design and feel that brought back that classical Zelda 1 feeling for me after I played for an hour or so. Wonderful game!

WTF? Well fine, I won't. Geesh. Just don't screw up anyone else's scans then. Mek1's scans were perfectly fine as a raw release until you needed to mess them up with this joining BS again, not to mention scaling them down from a DPI of 250 to 72! I mean, who the hell does that? And better yet, why would anyone want to do that as it doesn't do anything to reduce the size of the scans or make them look better. Don't get me wrong, your editing is top notch, but for some reason you always have to have it your way even though you're wrong. Not that you care about anything anyone says or anything, but both kbf_private_joker and modgeezer brought up the program ComicRack, which does know the difference between a cover and the rest of the pages. So all those stupid arguments about joining regular pages simply don't make sense. Anyway, I'm tired of arguing with you. I could just as well run my head into a brick wall and it would accomplish just as much. You seem to have a very disruptive personality ever since you popped back into the forum, and I for one don't care much for it. If I could I would simply put you on ignore, but due to being a moderator, I can't. Sucks to be me I guess.

While not perfect, the rapidshare file system is one of the better ones I have used and it also is one of the widely used filesharing sites. Sure it limits the amount that can be downloaded at once, but you get that with everything that's "free". As you might notice from looking around a little bit, there's also the download manager, which rewards people who put a bit of energy back into this project, be it by helping out with the magazines themselves, helping to seed torrents or even spreading word of the site and being active on the board. All of this lets you download more magazines from the site itself instead of having to go through the rapidshare way.

That's not it at all. That's why I highlighted the red part. There's no reason whatsoever to do this as explained before. Every program has the possibility to put 2 pages side by side if anyone prefers them that way. Why go as far as to make certain scans pretty much useless to many members when all this can simply be avoided?

Noooo, please no...

Can't wait to play you and the other guys and girls on here! But just a bit of warning, don't take the online part to seriously, and by that I mean you VS rankings. It can be very frustrating to get over 7000-8000 points and then suddenly lose 500-1000 in a couple of matches simply because some idiot likes to drive around as Bowser and bump everyone of the track, including you. Or seeing some guys using nothing but motorbikes, usually without the wheel and pretty much dominate the race, and while you're trying to take him out you're getting stabbed in the back by someone who rather shoots 3 red shells up your ... instead of keeping 2 of them to fire at the wheelless dude at the front who is getting further and further ahead since noone is shooting at him. When you have a good group, it's one of the best online experiences you can have. But when you have you have a bunch of lamers it will get very tempting to throw your controller through the tv.

Glad you like em. Maximum is indeed an incredible magazine. Sadly enough not too many people know about it. But when you realize that the person behind the magazine was Richard Leadbetter who worked on many of the best British videogame publications (including OSSM), you know you're in for a treat. As for the upcoming Sega Saturn magazines, you might notice that I'm scanning them first right now. I normally scan one and edit it right away. But I'm getting a new laptop in 3 weeks or so, which will have a much better screen than the 6 year old Packard Bell one I'm using right now. So it should be much more comfortable to edit the scans on the new laptop. I will probably release issue 18 next week, but will hold of on editing the others and just keep scanning them in one after another. It might mean that it will be a little while longer before the next one is released, but from then on they should follow a bit quicker after each other.

Without counting my daily Mario Kart hour or 2, it would have to be Dragon Quest Monsters Joker last night in bed.

Hehe, that's what happens in the heat of the moment. Funny thing is, I actually own Halo 3 but no 360! Entered a Coca Cola competition where you could win a 360 once a day and a game of choice every hour. Needless to say I didn't win a 360 sadly enough, as I would like to play Virtua Fighter 5 and Sega Rally, but I did win a 360 game. So I chose Halo 3 as I loved the first one and enjoyed the second one as well.

That looks sort of okay, but as you said yourself, the scanner doesn't seem to be very good. There's lots of vertical as well as horizontal lines running through all the pages. And looking a bit closer there is a lot of pixelation going on as well. If you're looking into scanning more mags, I would certainly get a new one first as I was in the same situation when I first started and ended up redoing all my old scans once I got a better scanner. That way you don't have to go through all the trouble and effort when you'd like to get higher quality scans later on. I can certainly recommend a Canon CanoLiDE 70, or perhaps higher. I got mine for about €80 last year, so it shouldn't be too expensive today.

Magazines from all around the world are welcome, doesn't matter in which language they are. Just make sure if you upload them to add (GERMANY) at the end so people know which language they are getting. I myself have a whole bunch of Dutch and even some French magazines, but I'm scanning and collecting the English ones in which I'm interested in first, as they would be the most useful for everyone else. Don't worry about those official UK Dreamcast magazines, I've got the complete set as well and I've done my first multi-part scan with Mean Machines 001, so I'll take those for my account.

Wow it didn't even occur to me that the magazine was more or less bi-monthly despite it being named Electronic Gaming Monthly right from the start.

Yeah, it's a bit strange, but it does seem to be correct. Looks like when they were writing the first issue of EGM (this one), they counted the 1989 Buyers Guide as issue 1, but quickly thereafter changed their mind and started counting from this one, so I would consider the 1989 Buyers Guide Issue 000. Issue 7 is indeed the Top Score issue, which in fact was the 2nd issue of Top Score, which wasn't counted in the EGM lineup. Very confusing... And the 1990 Buyers guide is issue 7. I've got 2 parts of the 3 part 100th anniversary poster here (missing the center part), and this does confirm the numbering. What it also does is create a bit more confusion by labeling issue 3 as the August issue instead of September, issue 4 as September instead of November and so on, which is very strange as the date on the front of the magazine makes it seem like the magazine should be displayed for 3 months then, which certainly can't be right. The weird part is that by the time we get to issue 15 on the 3rd part of the poster the months do line up again. So if anyone has the middle part and could do a quick scan of it, that might clear some things up. Until proved otherwise, I would certainly go with Magweasels, and therefor also our Wiki. I also believe that the "on sale April 1989" part was probably written months in advance before the magazine got released. Especially since this issue is already the May issue.
