Nintendo happy with February performance
meppi replied to DealBot's topic in Current Generation Video Gaming!
I really doubt it'll be a new Wii Zelda or Metroid, even though I would love that to be the case. What I would do to get a new Zelda in the style of either Majora's Mask or the Wind Waker... I'm gonna have to pick Animal Crossing, Pikmin 3 or 1080° Snowboarding game as my end of year predictions. Although I would love to see a new Waverace being developed by Nintendo Japan themselves this time around. Oh, and Excitetruck 2 or F-Zero! That would be so great. -

Well that would explain a lot. I have been playing arcade games since I could reach the joystick while standing on a chair. Started with Space Invaders in 1979 when I was 3. I know what you are thinking, how can you go to an arcade at the age of 3. Well, I grew up in a pub, so we always had an arcade and pinball machine. Donkey Kong (junior), Elevator Action, Asteroids, Rush 'n Attrack, Wonderboy, etc. You name it, they all were there for at least a month or 2. So those classics pretty much shaped my childhood and must have shaped my gaming tastes up till this day as I still prefer arcade style games. Which would explain my love for Sega, Capcom, Namco, SNK and Nintendo. This new generation seem to be passing me by without much thought. The only games I'm interested in trying out or am looking forward to on the HD systems are Virtua Fighter 5, Sega Rally and the new WipEout's. Realistic style games are a real turnoff for me personally. -

I doubt the accountants at Nintendo are bothered too much by MS not having a handheld system. As for the software list, do you really think that after Wii Fit there aren't any big titles left for the rest of the year? Not announced doesn't mean not in development. On a more personal note, and this is strictly going by my own gaming tastes, I only see 1 title that I would be interested in playing on that list and that would be Street Fighter 4, and so far it's only been confirmed as being an arcade game. The others simply don't do it for me... :-/ -

True that, but you can't fully compare things like how much money was spent on a Wii system vs a 360 and see how much the respective companies made from that. As we all know Wii systems have been sold at a profit from the get go, while 360's were sold at a loss, and seeing the new price drops (in Europe at least) that seems to continue. So more money may be spent on the hardware, but that doesn't equal profit. Also from Nintendo themselves: So the combined DS software actually outsold the 360 software overall, despite the top 10 not showing this. Too bad we're not getting the full software lists anymore from NPD, as we only seem to be getting a glimp of the top selling games and nothing else. So the picture might be a bit distorted at time. -

And a bit more data. Another world shattering NPD. It's becoming so commonplace it's easy to forget how historic these numbers are. SW totals were $668.7M!!!! That's an increase of 47% over last years historic number. The hardware is steller as well. Units were up 19% to over 2.1M systems combined (and that's compared to last year which was up 60% over the prior year). The "less technically advanced" systems were phenomenal. DS, PS2, & Wii all showed remarkable level of sales. 360 & PS3 sold quite well and there sales are quite respectable, but compared to the other systems don't seem to impress quite as much. Holy....eum moly??? The prediction numbers I've seen floating around this past week were about half of these official ones. So I'm very surprised to say the least, as well as glad for them. They are doing a great job software wise as well so imo they really do deserve all the good fortune they are seeing. -
An update on the situation. Right now all the new magazines should have a rapidshare link as well. The old Nintendo Powers don't have one for reasons stated before. Those magazines will be updated later so re-uploading the whole set to RS would soon have to be redone once the new versions of the NPs come out, and my bandwidth is limited. I'f I missed any of the other releases, let me know.

Yeah. Same reason I'm never posting about auctions I'm watching as long as I haven't actually won them. It's a bit like showing your hand in a poker game.
-
Not really sure about this, but isn't there a possibility that putting the auctions up here before they end would be counter productive? Since there might be visitors here that would rather buy the magazines themselves, for collection sake. And that way all of us could lose out on them. Just my 2 cents.

I'm picking this up the day it's released over here, which by the look of it will be somewhere in the fall of 2014. :shaun: Loved smash bros on GC, but sadly enough never had anyone to play against on a semi decent level, so Wifi play will certainly come in handy this time. But the first game I'm gonna pick up will be Mario Kart come April 11. Me and my buddy at work even took the day off, so we could drive to the store early and play all afternoon until his wife comes back home from work.
-
Indeed! Every bit helps, if it's a lot or even a little bit. It's very much appreciated.
-
Updated all of those as well, aside from the 2002 ones since I don't have those added to the table yet. I'll build the year 2002 tomorrow as it's starting to get a bit late over here and I'd like to catch up on a bit of Monday Nigh RAW before going to bed.

I think if this keeps up I'll have to find a therapy group or something. :dizzy: The magazines would be just about €60 as you can see here. Yeah, it takes quite a bit of time to do those due to that issue. But it's a labour of love, so I don't mind too much. I'm actually doing the same thing with the SSM set, since the bottom of the page is always cut off a bit to far, so I rescan every page and manually stitch the bottom back on. That's why I've deleted all my old SSM scans from last year and started all over from scratch with issue 1. I could get them out much faster if I ignore this, but I just want them to be as perfect as possible. Oh, and Philly. I've looked up how much a good A3 scanner goes for.... so I don't really have the urge to pick one of those up any time soon.
-
Welcome Krisse! It's always nice to see new people wanting to join in on the project. Like Philly said, scan the magazines that keep you interested. As it's easy to tire of the work when you're doing scans that you yourself don't ware about. That would probably be me. I've updated those ones just now.

Well with shipping from the UK to Belgium, scanning and editing everything, then putting it in a cbr and uploading, I'd say the day after tomorrow.
-
I know I shouldn't have done this, seeing my financial state at the moment, but I couldn't resist. Just won the full set of Official DreamCast magazines from the UK in perfect condition for about €3 per issue, shipping included. Seeing as shipping for an individual issue normally comes to something between €5-8 it's quite the bargain. Luckily noone matched my very low maximum price. :blushing: Time to update the Acquired Issues wiki page.

Just want to post a heads up here about the status of the rapidshare links for the new mags starting with EGM92. I try to upload RS links as quick as they are put up on the Download manager, but for the next couple of days I won't be able to do this. I only have 105MB left of my monthly ISP bandwidth limit for the next 3 days, which just barely leaves me enough room to browse the web and read a few mails and stuff. So I won't be able to download nor upload anything until Thursday at the earliest. So please be a little patient. When my limit is reset for the coming month I'll pick up where I left off.
-
No problem. I'm continuing to scan and edit these magazines whenever I can find a bit of time. I do take out some time to do new Club Nintendo issues in between as they are much smaller, so they can be finished and put out there much quicker as well. Hehe, if I should take a guess I'm thinking he's/she's someone from UG when I used to up magazines there.
-
Well Issue 47 does have the advertisements for something called the Super Tour '93. It's this one: Not a foldout cover though. And the first add is yellowish, but doesn't have the kid on it, but mentions the Bomberman '93 Championchips. The second add a couple page later is on a black page and says: "Be part of the EGM experience July 15, 1993" Hope this helps.
-
It's just the nature of the internet, and perhaps the overall mentality of people I guess. But yeah, I totally agree with banning multiple accounts. There are several ways to download the mags, so it shouldn't be that hard. It's just that some people would like to grab everything at once without having to have the inconvenience of having to wait a couple hours to download the next magazine. A little tip for those people: try to actually read through the magazine you just downloaded, that way, the wait for the next one will seem shorter.
-
Don't worry. All magazines will continue to be released as CBR first and perhaps PDF secondary. The reason why we're not doing it the other way around is because when you try to make a CBR out of a PDF file, there will always be loss in quality, even though in some cases it might be small, the lost would still be there. JPGs already have a lossy compression format, so focusing on PDFs first would result in a drop in quality which we're not willing to take.

Got another great one just now: It's the special edition Club Nintendo Classics Christmas issue of the UK Club Nintendo Magazine from 1990. I loved this issue back when I received it all those years back, and I still have it, but as you might already know, mine was in Dutch. So this is the English version of the same mag. For me this was the first ever issue which took a look back to some old games as the Classics subtitle hints at. Doing the retro gaming thing many years before others hopped on the bandwagon. This issue goes a bit more in depth into a couple classics like Zelda 1&2, Super Mario Bros 1&2, Castlevania, and on the GameBoy side Super Mario Land, Tetris, etc. among several more titles. Can't wait to scan this one and have you guys and girls enjoy it as well.
-
Had my eye on the SMB3 issue as well, but the other bidder set a higher price than what I was able to pay. :unhappy:
-
A couple more classic Nintendo magazines coming up soon: Oh and the complete set of MegaTech (MegaDrive magazine) came in this week as well. Every single one in brand new condition.
