  1. Yeah, spoonman's a very cool guy, I'm sure he'll help out. I would buy the magazine myself were it not that I'm at my Visa limit right now. Just tried to buy a couple of Asian Extreme scary movies and Yakuza flicks yesterday and my card bounced. Gonna have to wait until next month before I can buy anything. Seems like my spending spree has finally caught up with me. :unhappy:
  2. Issue 24 has just arrived! It was a tricky one, as I had only seen this issue once before on sale. But as you can see it's on the bottom of this pile of 3 magazines, so unless you know exactly what you're looking for you could think that the bottom one was issue 4 with Panzer DragoonZwei on it instead of Issue 24 with Panzer Dragoon Saga as they look much alike frow what you can only see in this picture. :cat:
  3. Hmm, this doesn't ring a bell. So it probably isn't EGM, which is the only one I have from the 3 magazines you named. Not 100% sure since it's such a long time ago though.
  4. Yeah that would be nice, but probably only doable for people with a HD set and component cables. As I've tried to put the scans on a SD card and load them up on the Wii. They simply are too blurry on a regular TV set, even with a decent size screen.
  5. If they were in fact perfect CBR issues, I'd gladly pay over $1 per issue, as long as they don't go overboard with the price. PDFs are worthless to me, so if they released them that way, I wouldn't want them.
  6. It's not youtube, but it's something I found great to watch. Especially when you are into Japanese retro games. Retro Core: Info about the episodes can be found on this page: http://www.segagagadomain.com/RetroCorepage-main.htm And the actual streaming videos or download links can be found here: http://www.archive.org/search.php?query=retro%20core
  7. Heard from some people in Japan that they were already playing Capcom CPS2 games on their tv with the new PSP, so it shouldn't be much of a problem.
  8. Ah, Holland. I'm from Belgium myself. I also remember seeing GameFan magazine in the shops, but I always bought EGM. Did that for nearly 10 years or so. recently I've gotten a couple of old GameFan magazines from 1993-94 and it does remind me quite a bit of the old style EGM. Although the style is different. Much more colourful design and very nice use of screenshots and artwork, at least for the time.
  9. I remember Arcade Magazine, although I've never read one myself. Perhaps after I'm done with SSM, CVG and the DreamCast magazines I'll have to find a couple of those as well.
  10. Yeah, it happens all the time. For some reason certain *ssholes get privileges over regular members and are able to troll topics to their harts content. Seems the only way to combat this is when the whole admin/mod pool are in agreement that such behavior will not be tollerated by any member. I've seen this happen several times on different boards, even up to the point where the board itself was destroyed in the end, but when you're on your own there's little you can do against it. For some reason I don't think we'll have this problem here.
  11. Send me a pm with your email address and I'll send it to that.
  12. Allright, time to let the cat out of the bag. I'm working on something very special right now, but the problem is that I will really need your help on this. I had been hearing great things about a magazine from 1995 from several people. Now the problem is that this one only lasted 6 issues and was only available in the UK as far as I'm aware. I've been looking for issues without success until a good friend of mine located one and shipped it to me. Well today it has arrived and now I finally understand what all the fuss is about. You know how many times you've heard people try to convince you that something is "by gamers, for gamers"? Well in this case that's exactly what it is. This is a magazine aimed squarely at the hardcore gamers of that time. (no not the kind of idiots that go on and on about how just about every single game sucks for one reason or another, or that try to convince you that they are better than you in one pathetic way or another  ) No this was about real gamers, people that love the purity of the games and not just the amount of polygons it uses. So sadly enough, it isn't all that surprising that the magazine failed in the mass market at the start of the "Playstation generation", if you know what I mean. It's a magazine that isn't afraid to delve deep into the gameplay and spend many pages going into tiny details. Even going as far as to translate the winning or losing quotes of the Virtua Fighter 2 characters when needed, just to give an example. You know most magazines always have a certain number of pages that you love to read and the rest you simply skip? Well for some reason this one seems to have packed pretty much every page with things that are worth to read, making it a pleasure instead of a chore to read it from cover to cover. Unsurprisingly the pedigree of this magazine runs through the Official Saturn Magazine, Mean Machines among others. I have just started to scan Issue 2, so with a bit of luck it should see a release next week or so. The sad part is that that's the only issue I've got, and it doesn't look like there are others soon to follow. :unhappy: So if there's anyone out there in possession of issue 1,3,4,5 or 6 and like do donate or sell them, please let us know. Or even if you find it on ebay or something, it would be very very much appreciated. This is one of the mags that sums it up nicely when we say: "preserve classic videogame magazines from years gone by, before they are lost forever...".
  13. Hehe, no problem. I never even knew that Mort posted here a while back. Only remember seeing him on the meanmachinemag site. Looks like the topic was quite a mess....probably better to let bygones be bygones.

  15. No we should not! And for various reasons. The 5 year rule is in place for a very good reason. We don't want to scan magazines that are still more or less in rotation. It's not the intention of the project to pirate or provide a free alternative to buying magazines when they come out. The people who originally work on these magazines deserve to be able to put food on their table just as much as you and I do, so we won't have anything to do with something that might jeopardize their career. That being said, I realize that the first issue came out in January of 2004, so technically it would be alright to start scanning issue 1 on January 2009. But due to the content of the magazine itself (retro only) and the fact that the magazine is still coming out monthly, I don't think even the 5 year rule in enough for this one. On top of that they have released a DVD which is for sale on the Retrogamer site, that includes PDFs if every issue from 1-30. So technically, as long as that DVD remains for sale, even the old magazines are still in rotation, which would mean that Issue 1 could be scanned in September of 2012 at the earliest if they decided to stop selling the DVD this day. In other words, don't count on it. :alien:
  16. That's the first Open Warfare which was developed by a completely different company. This one is made by Two Tribes who did Worms games in the past. It's great. In that latest RetroGamer they even mentioned that this probably was the best Worms game yet. And I'm starting to agree with them. The more I play it, the more new things I'm learning that weren't possible in the older Worms games. It's fantastic!
  17. I actually regret not asking for those Mean Machine magazines right now. The scans I got from those are very nice and all, but they could be a lot better...
  18. If anyone's up for a game. Friends code: 3780-6823-0143
  19. They might be worth a lot of money by then, but nothing will compare to letting my grandkids smell that new NES smell for the very first (and most likely last) time. When you see how much things have changed in a mere 30 years, I wouldn't even try to guess what it'll be like in another 30. Hopefully things like these consoles will still be around by then when we take good care of them.

  22. Well, yeah. Everything dies sooner or later, but there should still be more than enough working systems to get a replacement. It's true that nothing beats the real thing. And for that reason I have both a new, never opened Nes and Snes sitting in a cabinet. When all else fails and I can't get a 2nd hand replacement in 30 years or so, I'll open them up.

  24. I'd agree about the Metroid part if it were a FPS and not a FPA.  About that last part, I really do prefer colour in my games, instead of 3000 shades of brown. That's why I loved Sega so much back in the day, they always knew how to make games that were actual videogames instead of the gritty reality simulators.
