  1. On the one hand it seems pretty dumb to miscount your own magazine by ten whole issues. On the other hand it seems equally dumb (and more than a little dishonest) to suddenly decide to start counting special issues in a quest to beat everybody else to the number 100. Either way we can all agree that Gamepro is terrible and should be abolished from the pages of Earth's history as quickly as is humanly possible.
  2. Nope, you understood this listing completely. There's simply way too much jacking going on.
  3. The final issue hit me in the feels. The last page was so nostalgic and bittersweet that it was actually kind of hard not to well up.
  4. Neat to see a new Nintendo Power up here, even if I myself don't really read any past the last issue of my old subscription (issue 82). What's the cutoff for NP? I've been really scouring the 'net for issue 260 (at least I think that's the one. 260 or 262) which is a special 25th anniversary celebration of the NES. Can't seem to find that one anywhere.
  5. Super Mario Bros. 2. The Legend of Zelda. Contra. Gauntlet. Double Dragon and more. Nintendo doesn't get more classic than this. If you don't love this issue, you have no soul.
  6. That's exactly what happened to me with Soda Popinski. My memories of the game made it fairly easy to whip through the majority of the characters until I got to Soda, suddenly finding myself blank in terms of how to beat him since he'd always given me trouble as a kid. It was a struggle to get past him and then Mr. Sandman just killed me before I could finish the game for deadline. Lol I wouldn't think that just running out there and trying to box would be an effective strategy, but if he got some mileage out of it then I suppose good on him! Yeah our shortest episodes are both about 110 minutes with the average being around 2 hours, maybe 2:10. Our TMNT episode was the longest because we had a lot of things to say about Turtle miscellany in general. I can understand that such time sinks can prohibit how often people can listen to them, which is a bummer. I'd obviously like them to be as convenient and unwieldy as possible. At the same time I'm a podcast listener myself and so few of the ones that I've stumbled across are long enough to really delve into the game - they're like 30 or 45 minutes apiece - that I wanted to be different by really providing a lot of commentary and content. It's a tough balancing act sometimes but hopefully they won't be so long that they just become a pain, lol. Though I should warn you, the next episode is Mortal Kombat II and Howard and I are both crazy passionate about that game so that thing's going to clock 3 hours minimum.
  7. No problem! Glad that he likes it, hopefully he'll stick with it. They're pretty immersive games.
  8. Really good movie. Between it and the other "big classic", Citizen Kane, I preferred Casablanca. Kind of embarrassed that I didn't get the reference. Well done.
  9. Since I always try to avoid double-posting or bumping, I'm going to use this response to take the opportunity to mention that our newest episode (number 10, Toejam and Earl) should be live any hour now. I just posted it to Podomatic a little while ago and from there it should become available on itunes shortly thereafter. I don't have it on Youtube yet - that takes a wee bit more effort - but it shouldn't be overly long, probably within the next week or less. So for any of you who have given the podcast a chance and enjoyed what you're heard, know that we're in active production and more are on the way, the first of which should be downloadable this very night. Hey awesome, I'm glad that you checked it out and had a good time! Your perspective IS interesting, I imagine that if I were playing the game for the first time I'd probably do the same thing (in fact that makes me wonder if that's how I played the game the first time way back in 1987. The Nintendo Fun Club newsletter was out at that time so maybe I had knowledge of how to play the game ahead of time). Did you guys explain to him what to do or did you let him figure it out on his own? And you guys beat Tyson? Man, I suck, lol. If you remember what you wanted to comment on or correct, feel free to let me know. I'm a bit surprised (and flattered) that the feedback has been unanimously positive so far but I'm sure that there are still some things that we get wrong or could change. I myself am a bit bothered a bit by how rapidly I talk sometimes, which is unfortunately an old habit that developed naturally as a result of my anxiety issues. That should mellow out a bit over time, it just takes conscious effort and an awareness that I'm doing it. We also both dislike the volume discrepancy which is caused by the fact that I use a microphone headset that's always right next to my face while Howard bought a mic that's more expensive but has to stay mounted on his desk. Neither one of us tend to be conscious of how we sound during the show because we're both loud and clear on each others' speakers, it's only when we listen to the episode during the editing process that we're reminded of the fact that the recording picks up on the differences in microphone distances. We've talked about it, in fact we actually spoke about it just before this most recent episode last week. Until Howard gets a different mic I think he might just need to remember not to recline the seat back too far, something that's easy to do when it's a habit and you're sitting in the same chair for three straight hours. I guess the sound issue is something that comes from us doing the show over Skype, 300 miles apart, but we're definitely aware of it and want to make it better. Also, we agreed that in our last 2 episodes (TMNT and Toejam and Earl) we talked about non-gaming stuff longer than we'd prefer to, so if you listen to those episodes and don't like how long it took us to get to the game you can rest assured that we don't either. I'm in the middle of Illinois, kind of off-center and to the south of it in a nearly nonexistent town that no one in their right mind has ever heard of, lol. Unfortunately as broke as I am these days I don't get out much but hopefully that changes soon and when it does, if I wind up heading in your direction you bet I'll swing by for some games!
  10. Kurt Russell. "Big Trouble in Little China". 1986. Your move.
  11. Huh, you know, when the word is put forth and I listen really closely it DOES sound like "stone me". Well then, I guess my moment of triumph was false. Thanks for ruining my childhood. No, it's okay. I would rather you corrected me than allowed me to go forward in life with the security of my belief in the things that seemed real. Jerk. I guess I consider the Americanized SaGa titles to be Final Fantasy games, sure. I know that they're not officially part of the same series but they play pretty much the same and were created by several members of the core Final Fantasy team so in my mind the differences are superficial. Besides, I spent most of my life being presented with the idea that they're Final Fantasy entries so that's how I'm accustomed to looking at them. But oh, I guess you want to take THAT part of my childhood away too. Nah man, you go ahead. Take it. Take all of it. By all means, correct everything that's ever been erroneous in my life and leave me a quivering shell of a broken man. Next you'll be telling me that Captain Crunch is just some manufactured cartoon marketing personality and not my dad. Fart on Grandia, and fart on your stupid face!!
  12. Out of all the Gameboy games that I ever owned, FFLII easily got the most of my playing time. It was so in-depth for a Gameboy game. The monster mutation system was addicting enough that it could have warranted a whole game on its own. The storyline was unique and the sense of exploration and adventure was great. And as you said, the music was fantastic. It's kind of hard to believe that so much solid content could be packed into a little Gameboy cartridge. I used to haul that thing with me everywhere. I'd play it at home, on the living room couch, while Mystery Science Theater played in the background. I'd play it on long car rides whenever my dad brought us on antique hunts in Illinois, and then I'd play it at the diner restaurant where we stopped to eat. In fact it's the only game I can remember playing at multiple restaurants, since I got to Odin at a local Country Kitchen that's no longer there. And oh my GOD (no pun intended), Odin. I'll never forget fighting him. My encounter with Odin is the most memorable experience that I take from that game. I'll never forget the fact that I saved my game right before I faced him, and was either too low level or had too few weapons (possibly both) to take him down. I couldn't win more experience or items, nor could I go anywhere else. I was stuck, saved in his palace, with no way out but forward. And despite dozens of tries, I could not beat him. Him and those damn OdinCrows. This was the case for weeks. Possibly even months. I'd keep coming back to the game, keep loading that damn save, keep going through Odin's speech, and keep dying. I'd basically broken the game. I was 30 hours in and I couldn't go any farther. I'd screwed myself. And then, one determined evening, I set out with an unusual level of gusto. I KNEW I'd beat him that night. And somehow, with a combination of speed, skill, and luck, I did. I was startled when he went down, and the surprise in my mind quickly shot to specific lyrics of Bohemian Rhapsody: "SO YOU THINK YOU CAN STOP ME AND SPIT IN MY EYE!!!!!!!!" Seriously. That's a legit memory. F you, Odin. I beat you. And I beat Final Fantasy Legend II. And man, what a satisfying accomplishment it was in the end. It's definitely one of my favorite games in the series, probably fourth behind FFIV, FFVI, and the original NES game.
  13. Less shocked to find that I've got nude pics of you? I don't.... Hmm.. I don't know which one of us is worse in this situation...
  14. What do we do if we already have nude pics of E-Day?
  15. It can take the place of Final Fight (which, let's face it, is really the weak link of this particular chain). But FF Legend II? SimCity? Sonic? And Final Fantasy IV as the number one game? I think Famitsu has gained a new fan.
  16. Gambling. This site is just a poorly disguised front.
  17. To be fair I've seen a few ebay listings where a guy frames his item - something like cookware or a teapot - neatly and tastefully in the middle of the frame, but then when you look closer you can see his grotesque naked form quite intentionally reflected in it. But I guess that seems more like a prank than a manipulative attempt to win views...
  18. You've got me curious now. I own a 3DO but I think that mine is the Panasonic model. Didn't know that the Sanyo model was cancelled.
  19. A quarterly video game magazine in the internet age seems like no video game magazine at all...
