I just had a thought... TMNT. I know it started as a comic, but if I recall my history, it was a game next, then a cartoon, and finally, a movie. If you'll allow it, I would propose that the original (and to a slightly lesser extent) TMNT movie was a really good one.

I remember enjoying LoD when it came out. How does it hold up? Big fan of Valkyria Chronicles. Wish it would have sold well enough that they could have made a follow up on the PS3. I was really looking forward to The Thing at the time, but for whatever reason I didn't pick it up. Probably because I was working at Blockbuster at the time, and mostly played what we got in, simply because free rentals made it a lot easier to survive on the wages I made there. Wasn't a whole lot of expendable income for me then.

I find that I enjoy the banter between the guys on the youtube channel Continue? quite a lot. They have a couple that fall into the podcast category, ContinueCast and ContinueQuest. Difference being, with Quest, you get to watch them playing the game, with Cast, it's just audio unfortunately.

OOH, good call! Both the RE CGI movies were a lot of fun, and well made, close to the source of the games as well. I rather enjoyed them. I guess technically, there were three, but I'd really only count Degeneration and Damnation as movies, considering 4D Executor was more of a short. Still, good call.

A Warrior Nun's Most Difficult Adversary
te72 commented on Areala's blog entry in Retrochick Retroblog v1.0
Lot of familiar feelings written in here... I've found that my stubbornness and refusal to give up have made me into a much stronger person than I was when I was young. I've always prayed that God take me where He wanted me, and while there have been a couple rough patches, some close calls along the way, that has served me well. As for general well being, I find that crafting (metal work seems to be something I rather enjoy) has given me a healthy distraction. I would suspect that learning a new skill or education would have a similar effect. -
Game you wasted the most time on before giving up

Confession time... I've never played the Metroid games. It's probably the only Nintendo franchise I've never given a go at. That said... I will. Perhaps not today, nor tomorrow, but I know how games like that hold up, so I'm not worried in that department. -
I have a couple: -BC. It was a game that Peter Molyneaux (spelling?) was developing for the original Xbox. Basic idea was that you were a tribe of cave men and women, trying to survive against the difficulties of prehistoric living. Now, there are a LOT of games that play that card today, such as Farcry Primal and ARK Survival Evolved, but back then... this was a fresh idea. I loved Tail of the Sun, otherwise known as Wild Pure Simple Life in Japan. Then... it was cancelled. No word that I ever knew as to why, I suspect to work on Fable. So, that's my game I wish happened that didn't. As for my game that I wish existed but doesn't yet, I want something with Gran Turismo levels of road data accuracy mixed with the technology we have behind GPS mapping. There are a lot of roads I would LOVE to drive, but will never likely have the opportunity, certainly not with my own car. Throw in the customization levels seen in Forza, and I might just be able to get the experience I'm after. I'm still convinced that Konami through the late 80's into the late 90's could do no wrong. Just something about their games always just felt... right.

Clue is probably the only movie mentioned so far that I would consider "good" but as has been said, the bar here is rather low... That said, I rather enjoyed the following: -Mortal Kombat -FF Spirits Within -FF Advent Children (I really dig the soundtrack) -Most any 90's anime based on a fighting game (Tekken, Fatal Fury, Street Fighter) -Silent Hill (although it wasn't nearly as good or creepy as the game) -First couple Resident Evil films, by the fifth one though... ugh. I think that's about it. Haven't seen any of the more modern game-based movies, and I flat out refuse to watch anything by Uwe Bolle.

Read all four of them. Perhaps it was because if you read them, combined them with what you experienced with the game in your imagination... you got a pretty nice result. Perhaps the game's lack of a detailed story allowed for some creative freedom on the author's part. Sadly, it seemed as though they were going to continue the series of books, but never released a fifth book. Just... ended... on a bit of a cliffhanger, if I recall. Oh well. In a related note, I also still have my copy of the novelization of the first Mortal Kombat. Not sure if they were going after the movie or the game, but either way, I enjoyed it.

They made board games out of just about everything back in the 80's... You know what though, I really enjoyed the DOOM books, written by uh... Daffyd Ab Hugh or something like that? Had a bit of an odd name, perhaps a pseudonym. For the time, to an early teen aged mind, those books really hit the spot.

Game you wasted the most time on before giving up
te72 replied to kitsunebi's topic in Retro Video Gaming!
This thread begs the question, how many hours of our lives do we spend playing games? Figure, a standard 40 hour work week equates to 2080 hours per year, keep it at a nice, round 2000 for a couple weeks off. Think about that a second. If I were to add up just the rpgs I have save files for, I would probably hit around 2000 hours in those alone. Nevermind games that don't have any sort of timer logging your play time. I wonder how many YEARS worth of work I've put into gaming... three? Five, perhaps? I'm only 32 now... -
Bwaahahahahaha! Man I hear those gaming geniuses can be a bit socially awkward sometimes. Thanks for the laugh. As for the WC stuff, I tip my hat to you sir. You are making the world a better place with your efforts and passion. I have a couple fond memories of playing WC3 with a friend who had passed the following year. I remember staying up until WAY late into the night, to the point my dad finally came in and told us to shut if off already. Looking back, I feel a bit bad for my dad, but that game was amazing for the era... Myself? I'm a big Resident Evil fan, always have been. About 10 years ago, I discovered that I had disposable income for the first time in my life. I had just moved to Wyoming, and didn't have much of a social life, but I did have an ebay account, and discovered that people sell some odd stuff on there. Managed to pick up, among other things, a clock from the original RE game, with the zombie my brother and I affectionately call "Whitehead" and the logo underneath on the backing panel. Apparently it was a display at an EB or some other game store back when the game first came out. Mine now! I'd be amiss to not mention my cars though. I blame video games for at least half of my car addiction. From Rad Racer to Micro Machines, Road Rash to Ridge Racer, Wipeout to Gran Turismo, Burnout to that one really great series of rally games on the original Xbox... I could go on, but suffice to say, I'm a car nut, and it likely started because of gaming. I've had a lot of fond memories of the cars I've owned over the years (I think I'm on either 14 or 15, maybe 16 now, in as many years), and at the moment, I daily drive one of two Miatas. They're like go-karts with a place for a passenger, way more fun than anything this affordable has any reason to be, I love the things. However, like Kitsunebi and RetroDefense, I have a passion, and that is my Supra. I've spent the last 6 years planning how I wanted this car to turn out, which had a nasty habit of snowballing into something WAY beyond the scope of the original project. For the last two years, I've actually been working on it, as time, weather, and motivation would allow. I've torn the car apart to effectively mechanically restore it, mostly by way of custom, made in the USA parts. I find that part funny actually, a Japanese car, built almost entirely of American parts. First backwoods frittata to give me grief over where it was built is getting a ratchet up their clank and told that it was built in my hometown, almost entirely in my garage... Anyway, that's my story. Off to bed for now.

I feel like we missed a week last week... anyone else? As for quick wit, it has unfortunately never been a strong point of mine. I tend to think of GREAT come backs... way way WAY past the point where they would have been a shining moment of humor. Comedy is all about timing and or delivery, I'm usually better with delivery. That said, I have come up with all sorts of "popsicle" jokes over the years. Have been writing them down since I know I'll forget eventually. Nothing that's really helpful to this thread though. Sorry guys, I've got nothing for ya this time.

Glad you enjoyed it. Can't say as though I did haha! Yeah, Maruchan and Swiss Miss isn't exactly something off a menu. Their version actually looks pretty tasty. Reminds me a bit of a dish I had at a mexican restaurant a few months back, which had a chocolate infused sauce drizzled onto grilled chicken. Can't recall the name of the dish, unfortunately. Funny enough, my ebay name, started about a year before this culinary delight of an experiment, is "poorcollegestudentsroommate"

Fine, I'll be THAT guy... So, pretty much all my life, I've been a skinny little twit. I think at my heaviest, when I was eating a box of donuts every week and drinking anywhere from 40-60 ounces of soda or other sugar drinks, I was around 138 lbs. Granted, I'm around 5'7", maybe 5'8", depending on the gravity of the room haha. Yeah... I think I have a tape worm or something. When I was younger, as in late high school, early 20's, it wasn't uncommon for me to eat a box of mac & cheese (something like 1100, 1200 calories), before work. I'd have a foot long sammich from Blimpies (normally, Blimpies is sub par, at best, as far as sandwiches go, but this particular location was fantastic and the owner was a fan of my frequent visits) for lunch, loaded with double the meat, double cheese, and enough veggies and condiments to start a small garden... Dinner, I would usually hit up Jack in the Box for a couple jumbo jacks or an ultimate cheeseburger, since we're talking late late night by this point. Typically, this would be washed down with a liter or two of mountain dew... Like I say, that wasn't uncommon, and I probably consumed 3000 or so calories per day. However, I was always on my feet at work, and most days I would spend a couple hours skateboarding with my younger brother, so I was fairly active. Anymore, I try to avoid overeating. Tends to just make you lethargic at best. At worst? Ugh... no thanks. I've since become a drinker of mostly water, with the occasional (as in, maybe one or two a week at most) soda or sweet tea, and I've really expanded the palate toward more healthy food when I can. Still staying fairly active though, that's the important part... As for gross foods, about the only thing that comes to mind is the hot chocolate ramen experiment. If you're hungry, eat ramen. If you're thirsty and cold with a sweet tooth, drink hot chocolate. Do not, under any circumstances, fall under the impression that noodles and chocolate are a good combination.

Definitely something about the Japanese language that lends itself well to puns. Given that HOW you read a word can give it different meanings, as well as the context of a conversation... As for me, I defer to my favorite stand up, Mitch Hedberg: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZneT3MbZgsI That said, I have a whole lot of silly, Laffy Taffy style, tell the kids sort, written down and scattered on a shelf in my closet. A bit tired to try to remember them at the moment, but if anyone is interested, send me a PM and I'll post up a general joke thread we can all post to.

Bit late to the party, but I'm lucky enough to have not only my own mom, but my fiance's mom, and a few friend's moms growing up, that I consider (and call) mom as well. It's a funny thing, but the more parental figures in a kids life, the better, I figure. I know I had plenty, and certainly appreciate it, looking back.

Fantastic memory you have there, that was the one. I miss being easily impressed sometimes. Ahh, ok, I do recall seeing that in a mall many years back. Crazy how expensive those were! You sir, if you find yourself in Vegas sometime, need to visit the pinball museum. I want to say it's east of the strip on Tropicana, but don't quote me on that. It's a great place to drop a couple twenties and kill a few hours. As for your idea of renting a storefront, consider that a business needs to make money to stay in, well, business. A passion on the other hand, can lose money and still be rewarding. I would LOVE to restore and modify older, lesser loved or lesser known cars, and sell them for a reasonable price to other quirky car folk like myself. However, I know well enough that car restoration really isn't a good business model, because it takes a ridiculous amount of time to do, and the market for the majority of cars won't pay what you put into them. That said... if I ever won a ridiculous lottery jackpot, it would certainly keep me pleasantly occupied when I wasn't helping out others with whatever.

I'm curious as to why, if you wouldn't mind my asking? Personally, I find that the accessibility of the modern world makes experiences (music, games, movies, etc) a bit less special. Hobbies I once loved and enjoyed, I have a bit of a "meh" attitude toward these days. CDX? At first I read that as CDi, thinking you meant that horrible awful Phillips "game" system from the mid 90's. Then I realized you probably mean something else... Also, I'm wondering if the VR I played with at the AZ state fair about 20 years ago wasn't from Sega? All I remember was trying to shoot a pterodactyl (holy crap I spelled that right on the first try?) and being VERY disoriented. Was still a hoot though.

Haha, sorry bud... having an arcade unit in my own home has been a dream of mine for a long while now. Probably since a kid I went to school with, his dad had one in their basement. You forgot about TMNT though, both arcade games were also 4-player. That's kinda what I am aiming for. Some nice options out there, but a bit spendy. THAT... IS... AWESOME. Friend of mine up here sent me some info on a motion platform, this particular one was a very serious piece of equipment, used for simulation. Think along the lines of iRacer, or other PC sim racing games. Have a spinout, YOU have a spinout, because the entire platform rotates, apparently quite fast. I'd really love to have one, but between the size, weight, and cost, it's not exactly something you would have in the house. That said, I'm in the process of building an old Supra, so my own reality isn't too far from what the guys were doing by Fourth Stage in Initial D... Hey, beat me to it, I was gonna mention that after the M2 prototypes were mentioned above.

If you only knew what we did to games in general when I worked there... sooooo many were done in by what is known as a "field destroy," an unfortunate waste where we literally destroyed product and wrote it off. Apparently that was a better tax write off than donating them to charity or something along those lines. Can't say I ever saw this Sculptor's Cut, but I worked there through the GC/Xbox/PS2 era. Being a geek with adult money is a weird thing, isn't it? I mean, I COULD feasibly go and buy a four player TMNT Turtles in Time arcade machine, but should I? Then again, given some of the other weird objects (often impulse purchases) in this house, it's not like it would raise too many eyebrows to those that know me. ...and they let me have a mortgage. That part still baffles me. How did a kid like me ever become responsible enough for home ownership? I still watch cartoons and eat Lucky Charms. As for my one videogame related thing I would want... hmm. I got to meet Nobuo Uematsu and have a signed front cover of FF7 from that meeting, so in all honesty, I'd say that would be a hard one to top, personally. I fully intend on turning a third of the basement into an arcade, complete with skee-ball machine, but like Sean points out, it's just a matter of saving the money and making it happen someday. I'm a big Initial D fan, have been for years. They had some rather fun arcade units, one of which I recall playing at Gameworks in Tempe, AZ, about 8 or 9 years ago. It had a tilt function, where the cabin of the machine would swing you around quite a bit. It was disorienting at first, but talk about immersive! Maybe something like that would be my wish for a unique game related request.

Well said E-day. I think we're getting there, however our country has a nasty habit of stirring shit up when it has something to distract the populace from. Seems every election year, SOMETHING major happens when our elected officials can't get their poo straightened out. I'm all for folks being with whoever they choose. Like Areala said, it's all about consent. Not MY consent in YOUR life, either. My life is my business, your life is yours. The sooner we get the government out of our bedrooms, and the sooner folks learn to MYOFB, the better off we'll all be.

Are you at least gonna let us bite down on something next time? I still can't sit right...
