Yep, we need a preservation credit roll-call for these! E-Day, Phillyman, and marktrade? Not sure who donated issues but I remember pitching in a copy of GamePro #4 - that hole in the preserved run was looking awfully unsightly.
Video Game Collector was a semiannual magazine/price guide with a predominate focus on retro game collecting. It was originally distributed - at least in part - via Blockbuster rental stores and Diamond Distributors (making the magazine available via specialty retailers and comic book stores). It appears to be defunct with no new issues published since 2010 and vgcollector.com no longer active.
A January 2016 capture of the magazine's website is available via the Internet Archive's Wayback Machine.
I own many of the titles on the collection already but will likely pick it up anyhow. For me, it's the history behind the games and it looks like Rare is throwing in lots of goodies to compliment the game roster.
And hey, save states. Maybe I'll be able to finish Battletoads again.
Ditto. I've been holding off on a PS4 until enough games have my interest. Thus far, this has been my #1 since it's original E3 reveal despite my dislike of DRM & cloud based games.
I've heard a PC version is planned and I may go that route (despite not being much of a PC gamer) if the servers can exist in the public domain. Like Minecraft or whatever.
I don't like the idea of Sony destroying a universe with the eventual pull of a PSN server plug.
I would not be surprised if a physical PS4 release is announced as a stretch goal eventually. Or maybe a physical publisher will come along afterward - like Deep Silver with Mighty No. 9.
