  3. I do plan to get to VG&CE eventually but need to rearrange my home office a bit. Currently dealing with a lack of desk space. Digital Press was one of the greats back in the day - Joe Santulli and friends really knew their stuff. Still do, apparently - the website and game store are still going strong. I ran across a partial archive of Paradox a good while ago. Not sure who maintains it, though. And Jess Ragan's OnFile is still online but hasn't been updated in a very long time. But yeah - as you say - "seldom mentioned." Who knows - perhaps RetroMags will introduce a fanzine section someday. If you haven't already, be sure to check out the Turbo Force issue above. It includes a two-page feature spotlighting the fanzine scene. One reason why I wanted to preserve it, actually.
  4. I have a few doubles in my PSM collection so have decided some sacrifices will be made. On deck to be preserved, PSM #55 (February 2002).
  5. Less slipping is only one of the tweaks. Here's the full skinny straight from the manual: Can jump while aiming upward Continuously shoot arrows at high speed while holding down B (fire button) Arrows are faster Arrows have a broader range of effect Press and hold A (jump button) while jumping, you can slow your fall Speed while jumping is slowed down Reaction time is shorter Some of these sound extreme, but as I mentioned before, they're all very subtle. With the exception of turbo-fire you'd be hard pressed to notice the differences at first. The game does still offer the original classic controls as an option. In keeping with the discussion, I wouldn't consider the game a remake - it's pretty much the NES game with 3D effects, improved controls and Japan's original save system - but it's a very nice upgrade regardless. Yep, I remember reading about this somewhere but haven't tried it - I rarely play fan remakes, ROM hacks, etc. I have lots of respect for these projects but usually admire 'em from afar. Most I've tried are either too difficult or too buggy or both. And I've never been a big fan of emulation on PC. Would love to see someone hack NES Kid Icarus with the 3D Classics control changes, though. And have it original hardware compatible so I can put it on cart.
  6. I've always wondered why Nintendo hasn't enabled Super Game Boy support in their GB Virtual Console emulator. It'd add some nice color filter options to many titles - even those without native SGB support. Or perhaps they have and I don't know about it. I just discovered the green screen option the other day, after all. Speaking of Kid Icarus, if anyone here is a fan of the NES title, I highly recommend the 3D Classics version available on 3DS. The 3D effects are nice but the new control scheme option is what makes all the difference. The changes are subtle but improve the playability of the game immensely.
  7. I've struggled with the bullet list issue as well. I eventually began formatting my indexes taking the bug into account - trying not end a section with an indented list - but I agree, it is frustrating. If I recall correctly, the bold/italics problem can be traced to duplicate bold/italics tags. You should see them if you manually edit the source. I've had some line break hiccups. No break, double break, etc. Not sure why they appear but I'm now in the habit of submitting an index, then immediately editing the same index to fix the spacing bugs. They've always saved afterward. Have had occasional problems with lost underline and font size formatting, too, with save submission. Expect for the indent bug - which is incredibly frustrating sometimes - I can live with the others. I've always found web-based WYSIWYG editors to be extremely fickle. The editor here at RetroMags is actually very solid compared to others I've used. Would be nice if the bullet list bug could be patched, though.
  8. Would love to see a remake of Metroid II. I know it's regarded by many as the low-point in 2D Metroid gaming, but with Zero Mission out there, a solid remake of the second installment - in similar, 16-bit-ish glory - is something I've been wanting to play for years. There's been some speculation as to Battletoads lately. Microsoft had been teasing gamers with the IP and eventually announced some content for the X1 version of Shovel Knight. Can't imagine that's the end of it, though. It'd be nice to see a remake of the first game, or perhaps even a deal-o between Microsoft/Rare and Nintendo for Virtual Console releases, or even an emulated release of the arcade game via XBLA. That'd be nice. I only ask remakes stay true to the original games. Gaming history is full of failed or average 2D-to-3D transitions. Games like DuckTales Remastered and Metroid: Zero Mission are about as far from their source material as I'd wanna get - modernized/expanded but with the same style of gameplay.
  9. Thanks Areala - the Turbografx line is often under-rated so was glad to preserve some coverage from back in the day. Took me a little longer than expected but I think I've worked out all the kinks. If this issue of Turbo Force is approved by the curators I'll probably tackle an issue of Mega Play next. Or maybe jump straight into some VG&CE. With this scan of Turbo Force issue #3, all four issues are now archived here at RetroMags. Always nice to have a complete run.

  12. It's only speculation at this point, based on Microsoft trademarking "Windows 365" and Windows 10 being referenced as a "service" by developers. If it does turn out to be subscription-based, I'll try my best to avoid it. I prefer purchasing my software outright (whether it be OSes, games, etc) instead of dealing with service fees, micro-transactions, etc. As you mentioned, I hope they provide the option for a straight-out purchase.
  13. I'm a bit late with posting this - still suffering from winner's guilt, I think - but thank you, everyone. Not only for the congrats but for all of the hard work you put in last year - I wasn't the only person typing my tail off. Glad to have met so many fine folks here at RetroMags, too.   14. Welcome, PixelThing. As far as your magazine collection, I'm sure the RetroMags site will be glad to preserve them. You'll want to discuss scanning guidelines with the curators beforehand, though - resolutions, formatting tips, etc. And maybe set up a "Work In Progress" thread in the Magazine Talk forum so everyone knows what you're working on. Again, welcome to the site!
  15. I'm perfectly content with Windows 7. Best Windows OS since XP. Windows 10 has me intrigued, though. But I'll wait 'till we see if the rumored subscription plan comes to fruition.
  16. I usually shop online - Amazon primarily. Sometimes Best Buy, sometimes New Egg, sometimes Walmart. Depends on where the deals are. If I'm picking something up at full retail price, I'll usually shop at a local Walmart. I very rarely visit Gamestop anymore. And if so, I'm usually window shopping. I'm mostly into retro anymore. I have a few Mom & Pop stores I like to frequent. My favorite closed recently, though. Sad day.
  17. Thanks for the Game Player's scans, E-Day. Nice to see these preserved - despite their perfect-bound spines, physical copies don't hold up well, I've noticed. And I have to say, I have a new-found respect for all of the work involved in preserving magazines. Thanks again.
