  1. While indexing some VideoGames: The Ultimate Gaming Magazine recently I noticed a couple flagged "Preserved" but with no download links. Could an admin take a look? Issues 72 and 74. Thanks!
  2. Always liked this cover. Wily's castles are so iconic. Thanks for the scan, E-Day!
  3. Yep, Next Generation really knew how to put a top list together. Thanks for the upgraded scan, JohnSmith!
  4. I didn't get my Red Ryder carbine action two-hundred shot range model air rifle. Fudge.
  5. I really like this idea. I think maintaining the status quo is a good option for non-members (though, some file-sharing alternatives to FileFactory would be nice) while site participants could be "rewarded" with the direct option. That said, I'd have a hard cap set on that 5TB so as not to incur crazy bandwidth charges, just in case. If you decide on the credit option, you might want to keep an eye on forum credits - I've seen other forums abused with "Me too!" posts and the like just to run up numbers. Would it be possible to tie monetary donations to credits or would that be too difficult/too much of a grey area? I know it's a work in progress but I really think the planned collection tracking functionality will make a difference in participation rates. I imagine it'll attract more enthusiasts who'll be more inclined to help out, or perhaps even convert some lurkers into participants.
  6. I've been planning to do the same - replacing some gallery covers with label-less scans. I have several, I'm sure - just a matter of having the time to dig into my boxes sometime. I wonder if it's viable to put together a list of re-scan candidates? Not just mags that require a correction of some kind (missing pages, etc), but that are generally lower in quality than what RetroMags aspires to. Site veterans are probably best equipped to deal with this - knowing where scan archives were obtained, etc. Or maybe archived zines scanned by RetroMag staffers can be "Retromags Certified" or some such, so downloaders will know there's a certain level of scan quality they can expect. Just thinking out loud. Thanks again, JohnSmith, for all of the Electronic Games and Next Generation scanning lately. Great to see some of my favorite mags finally archived!
  7. I think this is a FileFactory thing. I've had some difficulties downloading archived issues of VideoGames recently - sometimes it's a general error message, sometimes a maintenance message. But checking back later, the download links work properly.
  8. Sega's Saturn is my go-to 2D fighter system. So much Capcom love there. Some of my faves: Street Fighter Alpha 1 & 2 X-Men: Children of the Atom (published by Acclaim and hard as the dickens) Marvel Super Heroes (LOVE this game) X-Men Vs. Street Fighter Pocket Fighter Vampire Savior (aka Darkstalkers) A few of those are imports but the Action Replay via cart slot makes the Saturn an extremely import-friendly machine. I still have a number of imports left on my wish list, actually. Marvel vs. Street Fighter and Cyberbots, namely. Lots of other great games on Sat as well. Panzer Dragoon Zwei, Nights into Dreams, Burning Rangers (a little rough around the edges but I really liked the theme), Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo, and the Virtua Cops. I hope to find Working Design's Sega Ages collection someday. And Sonic Jam. Oh, and import Night Strikers S! Really need to track that one down - loved playing the original arcade game in college. Think Space Harrier X Outrun and you'll have an idea. I need to reacquire Magic Knight Rayearth and Guardian Heroes sometime. Sold those way back when. Sigh. True story. Back in the day, I stopped by Toys R Us after work and was checking out their game clearance section. They had Street Fighter Alphas 1 & 2 for ten bucks each. They also had Panzer Dragoon Saga for twenty. I went with the Alphas. Hashtag regrets.
  9. I've never been a stickler for backward compatibility. If a new system includes it, that's fine, but it's more or less a nice bonus imo. Not something I consider fundamental or necessary. That said, I'm something of a video game collector. The play-it-and-trade-it mentality of most gamers is incomprehensible to me. For those gamers - and for anyone lacking physical space - I can see the appeal of BC. But I think backward compatibility will be entirely ignored by game companies eventually. Maybe even become something of a moot point if gaming ever goes 100% cloud streaming (ugh). There's too much money to be made by digitally re-selling (aka temporarily licensing) everything via Virtual Console, PS Now, etc, versus the expense/hassle of a hardware BC chipset. Even Nintendo - still supporting Wii BC with the Wii U - probably could have included Gamecube BC but chose to ignore it, what with Gamecube Virtual Console a real possibility.
  10. Gotta love the classics. Thanks for all the scanning work, E-Day, and a shout-out to Sean697 for the donations!
  11. Thanks for putting these dbases together, Phillyman. The publications dbase is a pleasant surprise - I didn't know you were working on that. It's really nice to see that kind of info up front instead of kinda buried in the magazine dbase. Thanks again for all the hard work!
  12. I noticed. And actually - as I already have issue 3 - I was thinking of giving this scanning thing a try. Trying to talk myself into it.
  13. PSM #1 Electronic Gaming Monthly #14 TurboForce Vol. 3 Thanks again, Phillyman!
  14. Very happy for you and Jessica, Areala! Stay hopeful - I know the road for equality hasn't been easy but the country finally seems to be coming around. Too slowly, I know, but the writing seems to be on the wall. For future generations, I have no doubt all those scenes of anti-gay marriage protesters on court house steps will look just as crass and bigoted as the anti-interracial marriage protests that came before.
  15. Forgot to follow-up on this but I finished auditing the UK missing covers list a month or so ago. Unless some new titles/issues have been added since, covers uploaded pre-2014 have been matched with their respective magazine records. With a couple of exceptions: Total 64's covers are still in limbo as there are no Total 64 issues in the database. There's a title entry for the magazine but no issues are listed. The Games Machine has a number of covers in limbo as their cover dates/numbers are out of sync with the cover dates/numbers in the dbase. Looks like the magazine didn't publish for a given month sometime between issue 1 and 11?
  16. Everyone can scratch these off the magazine prize list. Super NES Buyer's Guide Vol. 3 No. 3 Computer Game Review and CD-ROM Entertainment Vol. 2 No. 1 (August 1992) GameFan Vol. 2 No. 11 (November 1992) Thanks, Phillyman!
  17. I like fighters but never adjusted to SSB's mechanics - it's such a far cry from traditional fighting games. But I do appreciate the games as impressive celebrations of Nintendo history, though. Worth playing just for the nostalgic nods. I'll probably pick up the Wii U version eventually. The 3DS installment - based on the demo - is just too tough to play on the small screen. I'll have to upgrade to a XL model before I take the portable plunge on that one.
  18. Thanks for your Next Generation scans, JohnSmith! Such a great magazine - definitely deserves to be preserved.
  19. Thank you for all of the EGM scan work, E-Day!
  20. Thanks for scanning those Numb Thumb issues! Looking forward to the upcoming Game Players Sega Guide, too - haven't read that issue.
