Hey there, Sean. I can only speak for the Next Gen magazines, but I just bought a lot of them in good condition and will try to be scanning them over the next weeks and months. I currently have a complete run of them from issue 51 to issue 85, with the only issue I'm missing being #60. i think other guys are interested in EGM, as that isn't one I'd be scanning.
  2. I have it set for those options, too. I thought about the Lide 210, but couldn't really figure out if the image quality would be different than the 110. And does anyone know if there's a way to update or replace the covers for magazines in the gallery? If my scan is better than the current cover, I don't know if I just upload a new version (which makes redundant covers) or if you can overwrite the current one with a higher quality version. 3. Is there a reason RetroDefense that you're not scanning the Electronic Games magazines? Normally I'd just buy them myself, but Electronic Games is rarer and more expensive than most gaming magazines. I have about four more EG issues coming in the mail from eBay, but I don't know if I'll be scanning more after that due to cost. I also just bought a lot of Next Generation and Ultra Game Players magazines, so my budget for it is going to be low for quite a while. I would really like to see more scans, though, because EG is a "smart" magazine that had exclusive content like interviews and editorials that make it much more valueable to the gaming community than most magazines. And I have more scans. I used someone else's really fancy scanner for the Electronic Games magazines that I posted, but had to buy my own for the rest. I went with a CanoScan LiDE 110 because it was well reviewed and not too expensive. Using it to scan the new magazines, I can see the difference in quality, but that's mostly because the scanner uses a lot of automatic settings that you can't really fine tune like a more expensive scanner. I'm trying to get used to scanning while I surf the web or watch youtube videos, as it's a generally low impact activity. It takes around four hours nonstop to scan and edit a magazine, so it's not something that you can bang out quickly. I'll probably try to get two or three magazines scanned a week, hopefully. 4. I added the downlink links to the magazine's infopages here. Does a mod have to change the listing from "missing" to "preserved" on the magazine listing page? Will it do it automatically?

  6. I can't add the Versus Books, though. They don't have pages created and it won't allow me to make one. I guess that's a mod-level ability?
  7. Oh, I didn't realize that I could just add the direct archive.org CBR to the post. I thought it had to hosted on filefactory. I added the Electronic Games CBR link to the page.
  8. I bought a bunch of magazines and will be focusing on Next Generation, Game Players and Electronic Games. I have plenty to work with for a while, so we'll see how my uploading goes. I'll post my progress here, along with links to the CBR files that I'm uploading to archive.org. If anyone wants to help put these into the magazine pages here, that'd be great. Or, if anyone can show me a good guide for doing it myself that'd be helpful. 9. The cover to the Resident Evil 2 Perfect Guide, by Versus Books. Retailed for $9.99.
  10. This is the first magazine that I have scanned. I'm putting everything I scan on archive.org, as I find their downloading to be much easier than this sites. That said, I'm fine for everything that I scan to be hosted here as well. I'm primarily working on scans of things that aren't hosted on either site, so I know that this is all stuff that's needed: https://archive.org/details/Electronic-Games-1993-06 The CBR file link is in the description field. I bought a bunch of magazine lots on ebay, so I have plenty to work with for a good while. I'm focusing on Next Generation, Electronic Gamer and Game Players magazines. I'll probably start a dedicated thread with my progress and links to the CBR files as I go.
  11. I've been going through the Game Players magazine section on the site and the issue numbers on the site are wrong when compared to the actuall issue numbers. The biggest reason this is is because Game Players numbering is a mess because of their jumping around from Nintendo Guide/Sega Guide/regular. It is crazy to actually try and keep track of it, but it seems the site used only the magazines labeled "Game Players" for numbering the issues. The problem happens when you get to the issues that Game Players numbered themselves, which is based on some weird attributions and includes the Nintendo Guides as official issues. I would like to see the actual issues correctly labeled, though, because having an issue labeled on the site as 55, but it is actually issue 74 makes for some bad indexing. I have a chart that shows how they got to their internal numbering: http://imgur.com/a/d8Ne1
  12. I've been looking to get into the whole scanning business, because I find it to be a great resource and I grew up reading these magazines. I've already started buying some of the magazines that are missing from ebay that I found for cheap, and while I was putting together a list for items that needed it, I seemed to come across something I was wondering about. Do a lot of these magazines already exist in the hands of scanners on this site and they just haven't been converted yet? I was looking at the second run of Electronic Games/Fusion/Intelligent Gamer's Fusion/Intelligent Gamers magazine and saw they there were many high quality scans of just the covers of these magazines. I'm interested in bringing scans of these to the archive, but my question is is it worth spending a couple of hundred bucks on ebay when someone already has these in their collection? Do they not want to debind the magazines or is it just work that might take years to get around to? The magazines that I'm most interested in are Game Players, Next Generation and Electionic Games family. I already bought some, but I'm no where near close to getting what's needed to complete the gallery. I just wondered if I should be bothering or not.
  13. I used to absolutely love the Versus Books brand of strategy guides back in the day. They were often really fun and had little extra sections in them devoted to musings about the game itself. They're probably the only strategy guides that you would actually want to look at even without playing the game. Anyway, a long time ago I thought I would get into the whole magazine scanning thing. I scanned two of my favorite strategy guides, then ended up getting stuck at the upload part or losing interest. Today I was looking at this site and trying and find a magazine scan, when I remembered the scans I did. I put the raws together and edited them, and uploaded it as a CBR file to archive.org. Here are the two guides for Resident Evil 2 & 3. You can get the CBR files on archive by clicking on "HTTPS" in the "View the Book" box on the left of the page. It will take you to an FTP listing where you'll be able to download the CBR directly from the site: https://archive.org/details/ResidentEvil3VersusGuide https://archive.org/details/ResidentEvil2VersusGuide I would upload them to this site, but I don't really know how to get around it, and there doesn't seem to be an FAQ for the new version of the site yet. If someone wants to upload them and format for this site, that'd be great.
