Imagic games are the best. Most of my favorite Atari 2600 games were Imagic.

So I learned today using a heatgun to debind EGM 77. Don't go too fast. The pages were coming out so easy I'd just pull and place on the pile. Well it seems you need to let them cool off a bit as when I went to scan some of the pages reglued themselves together. So I had to go back the through the pile, reheat them and pull them apart, wave the pages in the air a few seconds, then place it on the pile. So ya, let that residual glue dry again first.

Scans magazines at an ungodly rate, runs 100 mile marathons. Your really a superhero arent you. I never could understand how people could complete that kind of run.mits pretty insane.

Missing Magazines, My Database & More
Sean697 replied to VGBounceHouse's topic in Database Discussions
Next Gen actually does continue numbering from Next Generation here. It does not start over at 1. In general all the magazines that are name changes do the same but are grouped by their name more or less. But continue numbering. -
Id do the older stuff or VG&CE. All the EGM's are aquired to be scanned by me or eday.

Yes that's the one.

1. Over the years my favorite book has changed dramatically. For instance the book I read that stayed with me and made an impact in me up until maybe 19 or 20 was the Autobiography of Malcolm X. But the book I would say now is my my favorite is Cloud Atlus. The reputation of the movie aside, the book is outstanding. Another book that forces you to look at assumptions about people in a different way. Plus the method of reverse storytelling is compelling. The story's is comprised of 5 interconnect stories that take place chronologically in time, but on half of each story is told before jumping into the next. The fifth story is told in its entirety and then work backwards in time until the first sorry is finished. With foreshadowing and connections between the story's. The first half of the book paints a rather bleak picture of systematic human oppression against each other , whether it's people of color not like us, the treatment of old people, the treatment of women, homosexuals, or even the treatment of artificial clones. The second half of the book is about the freedom from oppression. About humanity being able to overcome and achieve our better nature. As a whole the book is a look at how horrible people can be to each other while also showing the great heights we can reach if we want to. Some of the other books on this list were possibly favorite books of mine at one point. For awhile Asimov and his foundation books were my favorite, while I had an intense likening of Starshio Troopers and later the Enders game books by Orson Scott card. Also I've only read 3 of his books but I intensely liked Hammer of God by Greg Bear. At one point I was really into Anne Rice and could absolutely get lost in her Vampire novels. But eventually that series kind of jumped the shark. I also read every Stephen King book but wouldn't classify any of his books all time favorites. The Dark Tower series coming close. I had to come back and add this but the Girl with the Dragon Tatoo book series were amazing. A shame the Author died before writing more. 2. Worst book? Probrably many. The easiest for me would be anything Shakespeare. I hate reading them and don't appreciate his plays. I supose I enjoyed Romeo an Juliet. Having to read Shakesoeare in any class usually turned me off. As far as classic American literature, I've great enjoyed Hemingway, but not John Steineck. Of Mice and men really was never enjoyable to me. I have no need to ever read Frankenstein again eigther. 3. Books I'd like to get around to. I greatly enjoy Cormack McCarthys movies. The only book I read of his was The Road which was deeply moving for me. Another all time great. I'd like to read some of his other books. As well as getting around to reading more Heinlein perhaps. I really want to read the books from that famous Japanese writer who's name I can't recall.

This. I guess the results are that you have to take the extra step and grab the image number and update it in the database file for that magazine. Which doesn't take long. The only place you can't update is when someone is using the old image in a forum post , especially a new release post. (Unless your an admin or its your post). Then that post is stuck with the old image.

I thin the answer is yes. I mean we have the Top Score Newletter. Why not this?

Opened the sealed issue of EGM 77. So much easier editing a virgin magazine. I scanned the supplement, a stratedy guide for DKC 2. I'll post that tonight as a preview. And I updated the cover gallery with a better photo. You can see the difference below. (Though the existing was not bad by any means, this one was perfect.) This issue also has a 3DO poster in the bag and Mindscape "Visions" ad insert. o Here is the link to the DKC 2 strategy guide now. Will be included as part of the whole issue when done as well as standalone. https://community.retromags.com/files/file/3791-strategy-guide-from-issue-077-december-1995-donkey-kong-country-2/#.VxhT3_krJaR

Here you go. Full 600 dpi. The lower one I cranked up the brightness to see more detail. (You'll have to click on the picture to pull it up full resolution) -

Yes. I'll post a cropped hi res pic here when I get home. -
Awesome! I mean that just told me in 2 seconds what it took me 10 minutes to figure out. Nice that I just posted the top requested scan and now going number 2. I'd say the only thing is to cull games from the list after they are preserved.
-
Any word on getting a list of most requested issues up? It would make it a lot easier to check what's in my scan pile and and manually look at each database record to see which has the most votes currently. I want to give the people what they want. Which happened to surge to EGM 77 from the last time I checked last month.

New Release: Electronic Gaming Monthly Issue 18 (January 1991)

Let me know how you think the colors and brighness came out for you. I went for a little lighter and brighter while still trying to maintain accuracy. I think it looks great on my screen but I need to know if that is a good reference. -
The votes have spoken. Next up is EGM 77 with 18 votes. I think this odd that this issue has the most votes to preserve. I'll give you guys 24 hours to get more votes in if you want something else. From EGM, and Ultra Game Players or Game Buyer marked as acquired. Although I am kind of looking forward to this issue. I got it off Ebay still sealed in its plastic bag. Which should make getting this issue out MUCH faster.

Thanks for doing the post for this. I was going to grab this later today when I have to make one for EGM anyway. Felt bad for waiting so long but figured easier to knock out two birds with one stone so to speak. Also thank you VGB. Maybe the first time I've ever heard of print coverage for Track and Field, an arcade and NES game I really love.

Powered through the editing in EGM 18 on my day off yesterday. Due to NBA playoffs and the back cover having more editing than I anticipated I couldn't finish. Have about 4 pages to go so should be out later today for sure.
-
Ya but most of that stuff can be fixed in Photoshop anyway. And once you have settings for a magazine it's easy right. I just think trying to forgo that step by scanning straight with no editing is not gonna happen. But you certainly get good results using image editing software.

New Release: Electronic Gaming Monthly Issue 124 (November 1999)
Sean697 replied to E-Day's topic in New Releases
You can hold on to them but I also have those issues and plan on scanning then as well but if I'm not caught up by next year someone might take them to get them up right away. -
Ok that works. But not really what I wanted to do. It breaks the site links to the image. So you have to update them with the new image gallery number. Its OK I guess but would be better if just replacing the image on the same record worked so you don't have to update the links.
-
Ya and how did you do that? When I go to the edit image options under image moderation it allows me to upload new image but when I hit the edit image button to apply it doesnt work. And I see no delete button for the current image. I dont want to delete the whole record so it doesnt break the links. Can you clarify how you did this?
