  1. Are they making Rhea;s available again. I really want one. But last time they looked where not available. I have a USB-GD Rom I need to install as well but has been put on the back burner while scanning magazines.
  2. You what could help with the database is if you researched the issues of the magazines and pointed to a reliable database or reference we could use. Or post it here. Having someone who can read Japanese would greatly speed up the effort if your really want a database made here.
  3. Any update on this. Been eagerly awaiting this issue.
  4. Now just have to move our one preserved next gen to that download section.
  5. Same magazine basically. It was just a visual overhaul for the most part. My subscription carried over between the two. I mean really it's the same magazine.
  6. Still though , you should never send cash through the mail.
  7. I had old issues of joystick and computer mags growing up. But the first magazines I remember buying were the very first EGM, the 1989 buyers guide. Also Videoganes and computer entertainment, the one with the TG-16 and Lotus cover. And started Gamepro with issue number one. Also EGM (I never bout number one but did buy number 2 and up) pretty much everything from 1989 I probrably purchased. Including Game Player's. I couldn't get enough Genesis news.
  8. Looking at the game buyer. Referring to the other thread, even though all the pages are complete there is still a small gap separating the images where there is nothing. Using the clone stamp and heal brush it can be faked. But ya these glue bound magazines don't give you all the image to work with it seems.
  9. The apparent missing issue problem could be solved by making dummy database entry or entry's with a photo or something saying no issue exists as the publisher skipped these issues. I'd rather the cover number match the actual issue number.
  10. This actually came up recently when discussing the game players thread. And there are many other topics on the site discussing this. I am very much for keeping the numbering as printed on the cover. But there is some ambiguity on why it was done by the game pro editors. So I believe it's in limbo until a more compete answer is found.
  11. I can't even begin to think about how much extra work that would be if I did that on all the ads. I just can't do it. For instance this game buyer I'm scanning, over half the ads are two pages I think. But that does look super nice. The best I can do is on these pages is to straighten the page to the spine side and crop it exactly down the edge. That way if someone wanted to put it together themselves, they could without having any of the image removed by cropping.
  12. Sheet fed scanner? Ah no wonder you crank these out so fast. All manual flat bad here. I would imagine you have to have the pages pretty good shape to scan that way.
  13. It makes me wonder if it depends on the type of binding. I actually pulled straight up from the spine and not out while holding the heat gun in my other hand blowing air on it. I never had any glue. And the pages came out perfectly with a straight unblemished edge. But it's possible the Game Buyer had very little glue? Maybe some bindings have glue on the pages as oppose to just in the edge?
  14. I got an xrgb mini upscaler for my retro consoles. I play them occasionally. I try to get flash cartridges for all the consoles I can. My next project is to install my GD rom usb card in a Dreamcast to replace the disc drive with a hard drive.
  15. So I was scanning this issue and using my scanner dialog to just scan one page than the next without closing out the scanner app. Well I guess it stores them in a temp file, and then when you exit the app or send the image to another application, it saves them to your designated folder. So I had scanned from like page 22 to 56, and apparently the backlog of images waiting to save crashed the app. I don't know if I ran out memory, or my temp folder was full. In any case I lost all that work before it saved. Lesson learned, let the scanner app save the images every 20 pages or so.
  16. So no reply's. So up next is Game Buyer number 4. The last Game buyer. It was the most beat up of the 4 issues I had. So better to experiment on. So instead of cutting, I used a heatgun. Scanned the front and back pages. Then used the heat gun near the the spine on each page and just pulled the page out. They came out like butter perfectly undamaged. Just applied gently pulling force and they pulled right out with the heat. If it's that easy for all bound magazines, I am going to definetly recommend this method of debinding vice cutting. Maybe should even be added to our guide. Also if anyone has this issue, I could use a better cover scan. The cover on the copy I got was pretty beat up. Would save me a lot of work.
  17. What's interesting is this cover is primarily about the Simpsons pinball game. With on very early coverage of the NES game. I believe this is the artwork for the pinball table which most of the article is about.
  18. Read this. https://community.retromags.com/topic/9966-sean697-work-in-progress/?p=43773 After that probrably EGM 18, or possibly the 1994 buyers guide.
  19. Retromags Presents! EGM 17 is now available. There are two full page spreads this issue I combined into a single image. I think my criteria for doing this for my scans is going to be non ads. (With the exception of multipage ads of 3 or more pages and posters.) And the content has to spread across both pages making a single combined image relevant. Say a map, or screenshaps spreading two pages. If the content is already cut evenly across each page there is no point doing that in my mind. So the Ultima II map was an obvious one. The other was the Castle of Illusion feature, the title screen and some screen shots are spilt across two pages. The other games this issue do have a couple instances of scrolling a level from left to right across the top and bottom as decoration, like Dynamite Duke and Ghouls and Ghosts SMS, but didnt really seem to warrant a combined image as nothing is lost viewing them as indivdual pages. 22. I'm waiting for EGM17 to upload. But in the meantime I'd like to take a poll on what to do next. I want to try and do a bound magazine that requires taking apart, i.e. No staples. And I don't want to do that with an EGM till I've perfected it. So shout out what you want next. Game Buyer 1,2,3,4 , Ultra Game Players 91,92,100,101,102,103,106,107,108,110. So post with what you want, whatever receives the most interest I'll do next. Or an If someone really passionately wants a certain issue I'll take that into consideration as well. So plan on using a craft knife to cut the pages out for scanning. Is there a certain distance from the spine I need to cut? Or get as close as possible, I don't want to get glue on my scanner. But I want as complete a scan as possible as well.
