  1. Scan it at 600 dpi. On your scanner look for a setting for descreen. It remove artifacts when scanning glossy magazine covers, if you ever scan one without this setting your get a grid pattern on the scan that is quite noticeable. Then you can email it or host it on Dropbox, free account is more than enough. That's it. you can crop the picrure, but better to just scan the whole platter so something doesn't get cut off.
  2. There are 4. Could use a scan of yours too. You could always scan it and send it and see if it can be cleaned up.
  3. Before you sell that EGM 70, do you think you could scan the cover and send it to me or eday? So we can add it to our scan.mthere were 4 covers to that issue, and the only one we have preserved is the blue sky cover.
  4. Uh.... I have eschewed the physical and embraced the digital. So Retromags kind of keeps track of the magazines I can read! But ya the physical stuff I have sits in a plastic bin. Waiting to be eligible for scanning or selling pretty much.
  5. I listen to the 8-4 play podcast out of Japan, basically ex EGM guys who run a translation and localization company who work out of Tokyo. And they provide a pretty good pulse on what's going on in the Japanese game industry. And for a numer of years they have reported on the dominance of handheld gaming and the crash of consoles there. Really most of Japan has gone mobile with phone games. And only the handhelds really are still prospering with the old dedicated console model.
  6. Dude, Christmas was like last month. Or is this the result of a New Years resolution to scan like a mad man.
  7. Also in this screenshot above you can see the the limits of changing the resolution. The original 600 dpi scan you could read the text fairly well and sharp. Even at 2200 pixel height on this image which kind of is the upper limit of what we do now, the screenshots (around the border) lose details and the text is very hard to make out.
  8. So I decided I will make two image spreads on my scans for content pages that span 2 pages. But not for ads. (Although I crop 2 page ads such that someone could easily make one image if they so desire.) So here is a sample of the one I did for this Ultima 2 map spread from EGM 17. I like being able to display it as one image how you would be seeing in the magazine. I actually after straitening this had to build the top left of the image and the bottom right as they did not exist! The top left screenshot was cut off and I actually built the top half of image from another one lower down! The bottom right page was cropped in the ocean. Had to fill out the ocean snd lower border and the bottom half of the lower right screenshot. On simple design layouts like this it was pretty easy to fake it.
  9. 'Remember he scanned all these already awile back. Just needed to edit them.
  10. I've always heard Famitsu was notoriously stingy giving out good scores.
  11. I know. The few times I mentioned something on here it got bid way out of my price range.
  12. Can't wait, probrably my second favorite magazine, at the time I perhaps liked I more than EGM.
  13. Not that surprising. Up until that point the Saturn was leading PS in Japan by quite a bit. When FF7 came out and price drop of PS it turned the tide in Japan. Of course that doesn't happen overnight. And Langrisser was quite a popular series of strategy RPG in Japan. Think of Japan as a bizarre world at the time where all kinds of Saturn games we never got here were fondly remembered and the familiar PS games up until that point for us were not as popular.
  14. Ya so I didn't win this despite bidding 140.00. I have a suspicion that a lot of the eBay resellers here are buying up these large lots and then selling them individually for 20.00 plus each. Which sucks when buying large lots. And double sucks when I'm trying to by some low value issue like EGM 108 and they want 20.00 for it....Anyway started on EGM 13 scanning. Finished the cover. I find usually most of thes mags the cover is one of the items requiring the most editing because it receives the most wear obviously. So I took out the staples so I could get a nice flat scan. And when straightening, noticed that the cover was not cut evenly it seems. Following the straight edge at the binding it works out that it makes the page straight in regards to type and layout. But the top edge and right edge slope in enough that it cuts off a lot of the art. The top edge was easy because it was the red box for upper magazine cover type. Just filled it in with clone stamp. But since this issue has full page Simpsons art I didn't want to crop out any of it bringing In the right edge for a straight line. So I compared it to our cover gallery scan and sure enough, it has the missing section of art. So I cut just that small half page portion out of our cover galley photo and pasted into a new layer on top of my scan and stretched it to fit. Since it was a significantly lower resolution it obviously looked out of place. So what I did is set that slice to the background, and use it as a guide to fill in the missing piece with Photoshop tools. So basically I recreated the missing 1/4 inch on the right side using the gallery photo as a guide. I think it came out pretty good. I guess I could have just cropped out the 1/4 inch or so and called it a day, but it would have meant cutting out a good portion of the character circle on the right edge. Here is the raw scan from the scanner at 600 dpi. https://www.dropbox.com/s/b6pbm9qdbot8d3c/IMG_20160116_0003.tif?dl=0 Here is the edited scan after filling in (Non color corrected or resized. 600 dpi) https://www.dropbox.com/s/l7usm7rx5zso688/Electronic%20Gaming%20Monthly%20017%20December%201990%20page%20001.tif?dl=0
  15. I just aquired the 1994 EGM video game buyers guide for scanning. Can we add it to the database sub section. Looking at the cover gallery, we have most of the covers so probrably can add the rest as well.

  17. That sounds like a good idea actually.
  18. I think how it is is fine. They are two separate databases and the numbering does not continue between them. And as discussed in the previous thread we know it came from Game Player's Nintendo Guide and Sega Guide, mbut the numbering is really inconsistent. Game Players is basically a new publication by the same people as those mags. Whereas Ultras Game Players and to an extent Game Buyers are the same magazine rebranded.
  19. Forgot to get back to you on this. But the issue I have is also the sky cover. I posted before downloading. (I totally forgot when I mailed that that it was the blue one.)
  20. I don't believe so. But there would be lots of screenshots. Honestly you could have a website dedicated to just famitsu alone.
  21. I would love to see famitsu , but the rate at which they released those things, didn't it go weekly at one point there has to be a ton of them. The good thing is I imagine those issues would be in very good condition.
  22. Oh also all the EGM"s that are perfect have an MD5 hash on the DL page, the only ones missing are the ones on the list that still need editing or missing pages etc. I suppose Imcould go ahead and add them for the time being, I didn't want to do double work but it's actually pretty simple to scan and add the MD5 to the DL page. If any one is interested in updating there files it should be pretty easy to compare yours versus the DL page. But honestly most of the fixes were minor. I will say though you should grab a new copy of EGM 61 as it is worlds better quality and has missing pages restored. As well as the ones E-day fixed above that had missing pages.
  23. Also I Was able to use the admin feature to update the files without deleting the old entry and making a new one. The easiest way was to (This is mostly of interest only to team members) use FTP to upload in mass all my files to the upload server. Then edit the download page , by first deleting the original file then typing the path to grab the new one from. It worked great updating the files without making a new download. And thus requiring new links. With the exception of EGM 47 for some reason. It just did not want to take the new file. Would fail every time. I tried direct webpage upload and ftp upload and it didn't work. I tried making a one page test file and then it updated the file. Tried again to upload the corrected one it didn't work. The last time I tried and it finally took. For reasons I don't know.mThenonly thing I did different was literally copy and paste the file name from windows in the path. But I had meticulously checked the spelling previously and I don't think that was why.
  24. Well all the files are updated and the list is considerably shorter. I am finishing up cleaning up EGM 62, Imalready scanned a new cover. After that I'm going to work on new stuff. And in between issues maybe tackle some of these that are cosmetic only. But if anyone has any of the issues with missing pages or damaged covers/pages and can get those scanned,I'll drop what I'm doing to fix those issues up and update our copy.
  25. Did VG Bounce Hpuse ever get you those missing pages from EGM 86?
