  1. http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&alt=web&id=252133015746&globalID=EBAY-US Ok so I purchased 7 issues for scanning from this seller previously new in bags. Of which 4 were already scanned so I could get the 3 that weren't. Now the same seller is selling some more bagged issues. Am I insane that I'm thinking about buying these (All preserved I think) just so I can scan all the original inserts that came with them? I mean this is not a bad price for 7 bagged issues at 50.00. But I would be opening the bags. I don't know. It seems like madness. But I really want complete scans of this stuff. It's not worth it right?
  2. It's all ultimately irrelevant yes. But in mind it's also symbolic. (My opinion only here) By including the page you by act signify you are placing this to be curated on the site and have no claim of ownership. (As if anyone could) And that you believe in the mission of retromags to save these magazines for prosperity and help distribute them through this site to interested parties. Also people who take it out when hosting it elsewhere are performing an act saying they want to take this and host it without crediting its origins. Both things require a willful act. Also in a sense by uploading here I do think it does denote some sense of quality, that there were some sort of standard on how it was preserved (Even if there are quite a few examples of sub standard scans I've run across here). Sure people can remove the page, but at least they have to make an concious effort to do so and recognize what they are doing. Which is all you can really do. Ultimately for me I'd like my scans to be available as widely as possible as well as the scans of others. But knowing there is a repository where they can find more is a good thing. But to me it is perfectly reasonable to have a page added for anything uploaded here and is the rules if I'm not mistaken. I personally have no problem with that.
  3. In my short time here, it seems this comes up a lot. I believe when you upload here it should always include the credits page. I don't believe it's been forced anywhere else. I wasn't here for the prior stuff and controversy, but maybe we should have a policy that admins attach it regardless if missing? We don't want situations again where mags get pulled from the site by disgruntled members. You essentially cede retromags a copy. And in return they agree not to profit from it and credit you on the scan page. And it helps bring awareness to to the site.
  4. Mags look great on an ipad3 or greater. That retina display has plenty of resolution. But I am going to buy an Ipad Pro when it comes out. But my Ipad 3 is great for mags.
  5. So if you read my work in progress thread you would see that my next scan is the Top Score dated August 1989. This issue follows EGM #1 but is not a numbered EGM. There is one more Top Score! but it is officially numbered as EGM 7. So I was wondering where we would file this when I did some research. So Steve Harris, an original member of the U.S. National Video Game team started EGM. The soft launch was the 1989 buyers guide followed up with numbered issues after that. But prior to this he did Electronic Game Player. The predecessor to EGM that is more or less identical in format. It only lasted 4 issues as it didn't have good distribution. But was re launched as EGM. Also prior to that Steve Harris had a newsletter (With some of the same elements that would be incorporated into EGM) called Top Score that he started in 1986 and ran till 1987 that was published by the Amusement Players Association and written by the USNVGT. So the Top Score that was published by Sendai really is the last issue dating back to the newsletter of Top Score that he published and distributed himself. The next Top Score was fully incorporated into EGM where it ended. I found a website that has scans of theses Top Score! newsletters. http://www.videoparadise-sanjose.com/ Here is the link to the first issue. http://www.videoparadise-sanjose.com/ts-1.htm Click on Top Score newsletter on the right bar to view them. He has 4 and that may be the only 4 there are. No others are known or documented at this time that I could find. (Found evidence of at least 1 more Nov/Dec 1987) from a flikr photo. https://www.flickr.com/photos/38653499@N03/4898029067/ Could we make a new magazine database for Top Score magazine, Listing these 5 issues (Fall 96, Winter 97,July/August 1987, Sept/Oct 1987, Nov/Dec 1987) , plus the august 1989 Top Score. Then I will have a home to put the magazine when I scan it. As far as the EGM #7 Top Score, I don't know if you want to list that as belonging to both databases or just EGM database. As far as those newsletters, I emailed him and explained what we do here and asked if he could upload these here or we could mirror them for the site. That would be nice as Im pretty sure these are super obscure and you would never find these to scan on our own. I cant even find any ebay listings. If not at least we could have a database for them and some cover photos.
  6. Reader software usually has dedicated functions for reading comic books etc. And allows you to organize in the application usually for quick access to your files. But mainly they allow browsing while still in the compressed container. Its just general ease of use functions and presentation.
  7. I am using YAC reader on my iPad. Lots of ways to import including direct download (sometimes ) and cloud servers like Dropbox. Basic reader. Has zoom, folder organization , touch controls, memory where you left off, custom data fields etc. On Windows , more often than not I unpack the files and use Picture preview and just use the arrow keys to thumb through it.
  8. This issue made me get Streets of Rage. With the 9's review next to Final Fight.
  9. On any of these I upload, if you want a higher quality. Let me know I have 600 dpi copies. (I'd say with the compression of pixels this is actual 174 dpi.) I can share it over Dropbox or something.
  10. Ya I just unpack the file and view the pictures on a PC with picture preview. Kind of ghetto but it works. If your monitor can go vertical 90 degrees that is really awesome actually.
  11. Retromags Presents! Electronic Gaming Monthly Issue 8 March 1990 Database Entry! Download Directly!
  12. Hey all the 2000 issues are aquired to be preserved (I mailed them to eday). In January!nyhey should be free to scan and release. And I think the Driver issue has already been preserved but was pulled for the date a couple months ago. (It's kind of my fault, eday was going to mark the 2000 issues as aquired, and I pointed out that that issue was available. So it got fixed to not allowed. You can still access it through the downloads though.) But definetly look forward to the 2000 stuff. It's on deck for next year.
  13. There is not a guide. You can straight up copy paste someone else's style. And change the info. Or you can make your own. Frankly I think the site would be happy to have more people filling out the magazine information. It really is up to you. Anyone can edit so if someone is not happy they can fix.
  14. EGM issue 8 is available to download. I changed my color correction a tad from previous issues. It's slightly brighter. Let me know what you think. It still looks really good. But I'm not sure if I want to keep this setting yet. Coma pre it against EGM 11 and let me know. I did on two page spread on this issue. I didn't do the ads but in the middle of the magazine there is a map of Castlvania Legends on GB I included as the full two page spread. Database Entry! Download Directly! Next up is the Top Score! Issue dated August 1989. This does not have a database entry I believe. It does not have an EGM issue number like the next Top Score. So this is kind of a one off thing from the makers of EGM (Really predates or is contemporary to EGM #1) I am goin on vacation so it will be a few weeks till I can get to this. Can someone look at getting a database entry for this somewhere?
  15. 2,885 downloads

Electronic Gaming Monthly Issue 008 March 1990. Resized to constant pixel height of 2200. Archived offline at 600 dpi. Inguire at user Sean697 for high quality scans of this magazine if needed.
  16. Believe it or not I only paid 3.53 for this. And I talked the lady selling it into charging me 5.60 priory mail shipping for this EGM 52 and EGM 48 instead of 10.00 shipping posted on the auction. Of course there was the shipping to Canada. But when sending a box of 20 or so, it averages out to about 2.00 an issue. I was browsing through this before I sent it. It's a great issue.
  17. The straitening is not really the time consuming process for me. Takes me maybe 30 seconds a page maybe 1 minute if it's something tricky where I'm trying to match a two page spread. The time consuming part is the editing. I'm taking aroun 5 minutes a page I'd say. Maybe I'm being a little too anal. But I try to get most of the dust and blemishes off. And fixing printing errors like ink streaks.I literally have a sore finger from using the clone stamp.
  18. Yup. I was thinking they were talking about the light gun arcade game. Makes sense now.
  19. Great issue. Had their game of the year awards. And more than a few tidbits on games that I think never happened. I liked the Quartermann rumors on Nontendo working on Metroid 64 and Kid Icarus 64. And DK64 being a 64 DD game. Interesting look at their official preview lists as well. Like The Jurrasic Park Lost World game coming soon on Saturn. I'm pretty sure that never happened.
  20. Maybe you could just mark stuff your planning to scan within the next few months. You don't have to check off everything. It helps when someone, like me, is actively purchasing stuff for the site. To know that someone is going to scan it in the immediate future. So they don't buy it. Or he scanning the same issue at the same time. The work in progress threads also give people an idea what they are working on.
  21. Also when you get around to that EGM 65 that you scanned. If you want to post that on your sight to preview. I acquired that for scanning right before you posted you scanned it. I have a pristine copy that frankly is amazing from bill Marioman auction. It seems to have all the inserts. Anyway. I can compare my physical copy to your scan and if you are missing anything I can provide scans for you to add in. And as I have the issue in hand I can give a good judgment on the color correction etc. (I know this may be awile as you are editing the older stuff first.)
  22. Im not interested in having physical magazines at all. I'm just getting for scanning. Physical destruction is fine with me. I'll try to post here mostly if there is something I'm not able to obtain for shipping etc. A lot of people here are like that. It they have their oersoanal collection and their scan collection.
  23. Love seeing these really old mags preserved. Not many of these around anymore.
