With the size of your Jpegs, I really wouldn't worry about going to tiffs. They look fine already. I'd just work with the Jpegs you have.
-
Was it the one that just got posted on the front page? Or the one with the Gradius cover art. The later is the one I got. It came out previous to the February 1997 issue.

So I checked this out. The scans look really good. As far as cropping. What needs to be done is to resize them to 1600 pixels wide. Also do a little cleanup with dust removal. And do a little color correction. You can do this yourself, or someone here can volunteer. Shouldn't be that much work. As is the scans are like 6M each. The guides for editing are back up on the site fron page under the guides. That should take care of most of your questions.

Man one thing I noticed, All the page cutting on these old mags are horribly crooked. It makes getting a standardized cropping size pretty much impossible. Requiring a lot of use of the clone stamp to fill in straight edges after rotating. Even some of the layouts are are just done really crooked. Like you have to decide which element you want to straiten because they all can't be perfect. Is this typical of all magazines? It's not a huge deal cropping stuff off on bordered pages. But I really hate have to do that with artwork so I spend way to much time aganozing where to crop to get the most image and be able to fill in with the clone stamp without changing anything. Debinding definetly helps get more of the image in situations like this. The EGM 7 I did not debind and just weighted it down while scanning.

The seller is selling off a ton of stuff right now. I actually bought a rare EGM from him and had it shipped to a friend and then paid to have him forward to me. He doesn't do Hawaii shipping. So I'm not looking to aquire his other stuff. (Even though the price is the same for shipping.) I believe he's selling off all of his large collection. I picked up a super rare Top Score from him that came out in 1990. In any case I have my hands full right now. I'd love to see the Mega Plays get scanned though.

Ok Im actually waiting on EGM 8,9 in the mail. Until then I'll start on EGM 11. Im debinding this (Staples only. To see if I can get better scans and go faster. We'll see how hard it is to rebind later. IF not no big loss.

Egm issue seven is now available. Ill make a post right after this. But on the upload file form, is there a way to link the gallery picture instead of uploading a new one? Also on the database page I put the link to the download page. But I don't know how to add the official download button graphic. Anyway could somebody check out I did everything correctly. And enjoy the issue. Its mostly just codes but the ads are interesting. I haven't decided what I'm doing next. But for sure it will be another early EGM. Database Entry! Download Directly!

Ok so I finalize all the pages by applying the leveling settings in 2. But doing a finally quality check, I wasn't really happy with it. Some of the pages lost all the detail in dark scenes. So I read some more tutorials, redid my leveling, changed my absolute RGB values from 0-255 to 10-245. Adjusted the levels, and set the mid tone slider to about .85 instead of .68. Now it looks much better and not as dark and testing the details are not washed out in a lot of the dark advertisements. Have to go through and apply my image settings again and make new Jpegs. Should be fast. It's all macroed. And then we'll see how it turns out. Possibly may release this today. I still need to know where to post to get it uploaded to the site.

Ooh I've been using them this week actually. It's all been very useful stuff. You can find the current version by searching the site with scanning, editing , pre-scan, the last is is packing or compiling I forget. I get them all open on my browser for the last few days.
-
Ok I was messing around with some levels stuff. And adjusting things myself. I took two images from my scan and the first one is default from scanner. Second is using levels to get a nice image by sampling black and white and adjusting the midtones. 3rd is me just adjusting the hue brightness and contrast. Let me know what you think looks best. Option 1: No corrections Option 2: Levels only Option 3: custom manual adjustments. Also let me know if I should be doing something else or applying another filter. Personally I prefer the level adjustments in 2. I would be happy just publishing it with the simple level adjustment and nothing else. But Id like some opinions before I apply the adjustment layer to all the pages and submit this.

This is great! Got to get someone with admin to the database to add this.

I've been correcting some of the mistakes in the actual print like ink splatters and stuff. Only because the sites editing guide recommended it. I may change that with later scans. Some of the stuff is like obvious dust particles fr the originals famine scans. Others like a page has a yellow streak from the printing process I removed that at have only been on a small run of issues.

So I decided to help get our EGM collection complete, I acquired a lot of stuff and sent a lot to E-Day. But I am going to try and scan some of this stuff myself. And try my hand at editing. I purchased a Canon LiDE 220 scanner. It doesn't have a huge bed. But big enough for magazines.mbut it outputs excellent color and is fast. Uses LED lamp so no warmup times. My first issue I'm scanning is EGM 07 the Top Score issue with the codes. I've completed scanning. Now on to editing. I've messed around a it and found straightening and cropping to be pretty fast. And the clone stamp has been working well for fixing blemishes. The colors came out so good I'm not sure if I'll have to color correct much if at all. I'll probrably go through and crop and fix blemishes and straighten first. Then I'll post some images here to get some opinions on color correction options and contrast adjustments before app, using them. Any advice on photoshop corrections would be appreciated ahead of time to get me started. Or just wait till I post some screenshots and give me some feed back. I'm scanning in 500 dpi because it's fairly quick with this scanner. When I'm done editing I plan to resize the images to 1600 pixels wide. Is this still a good standard to use. Should I do more or less. Files sizes maybe could get bigger with the times. But let me know what the site still reccomend and I'll go with that.

That issue is on my watch list on eBay. I was willing to buy it and debind.mbut if you get a good scan.mthat works. Or you could hold off and just let me buy it. (Although I haven't seen it yet.) so many times I wanted to reference this issue. A big hole in our collection.

An auction with one day left for over two years of VG&CE
Sean697 replied to Sean697's topic in Magazine Talk
No it got away. If it want for the shipping I would have purchased it, I am bidding on a lot of EGMs right now, 100 issues on eBay. Free shipping. It only has 7 EGMs we need to fill out our EGM acquired list. Willing to bid up to 100.00. I can easily I think turn around and sell all of them separately to make my money back. -
Dead pool has kind of a cult following among comics fans. He's most associated with the X-Men brand. Likely because he's much to violent and foul mouthed to have had an adaption previously. But he's been around for a long long time. He kind of Marvels comedy relief / 4th wall breaking character. Often talking directly to the reader, almost like a narrator and main character at the same time.

Yes if you check the EGM database you see all the egms I've acquired , in addition to the ones you got. (Getting) I'm mad is missed out on EGM 13 and 7 at 3 dollars each last month on a buy it now. Because I was waiting for a reply about combined shipping.
-
Yes. It's right in the middle of the magazine.

I just acquired EGM 27 and can confirm that Sega force is not from that issue. There is a Sega Force in EGM 27. It's embedded in the issue though.

An auction with one day left for over two years of VG&CE

Since there were over 20 issues missing. I would have took you up on that. At 3dollars an issue, that's not horrible. -
http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&alt=web&id=291546383973&globalID=EBAY-US Anyone want to pick these up to get scanned? Complet VG&CE from April 91 to Dec 93. Currently only a dollar. There are at least 20 issues here in our database that are not scanned. The seller refused to offer USPS shipping for me. Only UPS ground. Thus it's 76 dollars for me to buy these because I live in Hawaii and UPS is expensive as hell to ship here. Although I can't get them. It's a great opportunity for someone else to acquire these for scanning.

Sounds good. Eday take the game pros. I'll take anything else instead of the gamepros. Game informers preferably.
-
Also eDay has a classified ad and is looking for some of the gamepros on this list.
