  1. If the system is significantly different,I'm don't want backwards compatability.mbut when it has hardly changed it would be nice. N64 no need for backwards compatibility. Technically the Wii U was so different that backwards compatability is sort of a hassle but I like it. I really didn't need backwards compatability with the Wii. The system was radically different enough controller wise that it wasn't nessesary. It's Definetly a selling point for me though. If the controllers are basically the same, why not?
  2. You are right. Those are holiday 93 releases.
  3. I really really wosh my PS4 was backwards compatible with PS3. If only because the systems are so simlilar in regards to features. Same media format, basically same controllers, basically same size. Having both a PS3 and a PS4 hooked up is really redundant. Especially when the PS3 still has better media funtionality, and there were so many good late I. Life PS3 games I have that I haven't gotten around too. My GC got packed away when I got a Wii. My PS3 Phat handles all PS games, my Wii U caused me to never go back to my Wii. So yes I like it.mesoecially with digital purchase , backwards compatability is better.
  4. On that Sega Force, thiis may have been part of EGM 27. On the cover it says check out free supplement Sega Force. Not sure if it's a separate entry or should go with EGM 27 if we ever scan it.
  5. Awesome. And the cover headline Mastering Blasters 30 screens has nothing to do with Master Blaster.
  6. Oh man I pages though that before I mailed it. The art is so good. I wish I had more of them to read. Definetly check this out when it's uploaded. It's quality stuff.
  7. I think cans can last 10-20 years. I had a can of coke from Saudi Arabia from 1995 that finally leaked this year all over my book shelf. I found recently a bunch of unopened cans of soda from the 90's in my grandmothers garage that were all unopened but empty.
  8. Ok hopefully philly can answer this. The 89,90,and 91 buyers guides for EGM are in the database. But there is no entry for the 1992 buyers guide Also no entry for the 1993 buyers guide. Do you already have these mags and they are just not readded in the new database? Or do I need to mail them too? Otherwise I'd like to sell them to defray the shipping costs as a set with the 89,90,91 guides.
  9. I dug up some of my old mags. After searching the database here is what I have that is not in the database and needs scanning. Any volunteers? I'll mail them for scanning just post here or PM me. Here is the list. Sega Force ( EGM supplement but may be related to the UK mag. Has Joe Montana on cover in Chiefs Uniform) Joystick 18 Dec 83 Game players: jun 91, may 91, aug 90, March 90, Feb 90, dec 89, nov 89 EGM: 39, 46,47,49,76,80. 1992 buyers guide (possibly EGM 30), 1993 buyers guide (Also not in database but may be issue jan 93 which is preserved.)
  10. http://community.retromags.com/topic/2719-electronic-game-player-early-egm-septoct-1988-raw-scans/?hl=%2B1989+%2Bbuyers+%2Bguide#.VF6Sftq9KK0
  11. I also have the EGM supplement magazine one shot Sega Force. I found a link for it on you old database under miscellaneous but it's not in the new database.
  12. I saw a post from 2008 where it was submitted. You interested in getting some mags to scan, I offered to e-day but maybe your plate is less full. I just dig out my old collection at my parents house. If you can handle some scanning PM me and I can tell you what I got that is missing from the site I can mail.
  13. You want it to scan? Also have the buyers guide from 90-93 only the 90 is in database.
  14. Going through my old mags. Is this the first EGM issue? It's the electronic gaming monthly 1989 buyers guide. It's not listed in the EGM database.where does this go?
  15. Awesome. Glad to see the first of my old magazines get scanned and put to good use for people to read. Thanks again John Smith for doing all the work to make it happen.
  16. I will surely buy. Suposedly the 3D is improved from the XL. The one hong bad about the XL is that the 3D is basically useless as the viewing angle is so bad. Much worse than the original 3DS. If it is that much better I'll be upgrading to a New 3DS XL.
  17. I noticed some subscriber only issues have extra content inside. I wonder wasn't there a newsletter prior to EGM? Maybe it was somehow a subscribed to issue? Eighter that or the newsstand version had the extra stuff.
  18. Since I gave away my magazines that need preserving to the site. I'm selling the rest of my stuff on eBay. If anyone is interested in real copy's, here is what I got up for sale currently. A lot of stuff is sold already but I'm letting it all go starting at 1.00 which basically means I'm barely breaking even after fees. Anyway hers the link if anyone's interested. http://www.ebay.com/sch/sean752/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_ipg=&_from=
  19. Thanks eday. Wonderful response. The only thing I have to say about archive is the wonderful feature they have to preview and view the pages without downloading. But their database is woefully inadequate and unorganized and hard to search. https://archive.org/details/GamePro_Issue_094_Volume_08_Number_07_1996-07_IDG_Publishing_US
  20. Hi, I am new here although I've poked in and out over the years to grab a mag or two for research. I kind of have some questions that seem to bug me a bit. As I'd like to maybe contribute some. Is the sites intent purely to make sure these magazines are preservered? The reason I ask as over the years I seem to see the same holes missing in the magazines for download. I know there is some history that I know nothing about with people taking magazines down, and some possible losses with the mega upload shutdown and needing to re index stuff for the sites new database. I guess my first question, if I ever take the time to scan some of these issues, what exactly is the policy about distributing to other sites? I would have no problem at all adding the retro mags credits page etc, but would it also be ok to make the mag available say on archive.org etc? (I have no interest in credit or so called ownership of scan.) I guess I would kind of like to know what the sites policy's are. Also in regards pointing out scans elseware that can be indexed here. I notice sometimes other scans that fit within the sites defined date guidelines are available elseware. Is there a strict policy of not linking or indexing scans that are not made specifically for this site without other sites permission? Also I peruse the message boards and see offers to make available for example complete set of early EGMs etc, multiple, yet I always see the same holes in the EGM database. Do all these people flake out when it comes time to donate, or is the scanning backlog really that long? Or looking at the Magazine contest, I notice that some of the prizes are magazines that have not been preserved on the site? For instance the EGMs being given away are issues 8,9,11,14 that are long time holes in the database. And Sega Challenge issue 7 I've never seen available anywhere to download on the Internet that I could find. I mean those are cool prizes, but wouldn't the priority be to get those added to the download database instead of giving them away? (I know if I won them I would opt to just have it scanned in.) Also I've mostly seen the older download guide , and inferences that there might be some new guidance for formatting for submissions. If I decide to scan some stuff on my own should I just use that guide or will there be a prominently posted set of standards upcoming in the future for submission? I just donated like over 40 is signs to be scanned (Thanks Eday, and John Smith) but would like to try doing some on my own. But want to make sure that I do it right and that and I understand the sights mission statement fully before doing so.
  21. I just found that scanning guide today. And saw that and realized I could have used that. I scanned directly into Photoshop. Could definetly see that pattern when zoomed in.
  22. So I scanned my first cover for Gamefan 79 that I'm about to sell on eBay. Is that typical for glossy covers to come out really washed out looking? I had to go into PS and manually adjust the RGB levels and contrast and chroma, you name it to get it looking as close to the original cover as possible. (By eye as I haven't calibrated my monitor or anything) can someone take a look at the cover I did to see if it's alright? Also any tips on scanning covers and level settings to correct using PS to get the best image? Also I scanned at 300 dpi but that may be a little large. As far as the database. I just kind if made up my own system for describing the contents. Is that OK?
