  1. Well you'll notice I didn't touch up as much in these issues as some others. I have been trying to speed things along. No one should be under the illusion that I make the same quality edits as others here in a faster time. I just don't see it as important to remove all the flaws from the scans. I'm a month behind where I wanted to be! Oh, and these are shorter issues. These three issues have fewer pages than one EGM.
  2. Was trying to finish off NextGen before midnight, but alas—one more issue to go!

  7. That makes Mario the Grinch this year. He didn't get a launch game for GameCube!
  8. Is it possible to have a section in the download manager for a magazine that's not in the database? It may not be standard practice for Retromags, but it may be the only way to get the ball rolling for some magazines that may be nearly impossible to completely catalog.

  11. I think he was referring to education standards, experience, and things of that nature. I don't think he was referring to creative content. From what I can tell Japan has more creative freedom in gaming than the West does, although part of impression is due to Nintendo's increasingly disruptive localization.
  12. Highlights of this issue include a Myst game that NextGen actually likes. "We don't believe it."

  15. I guess I really am in hell. Chumbawumba. I would spend my eternity in hell believing that I can get up again after being knocked down there.
  16. I looked at this thread and fainted! PC Games is not in the database yet. There were two runs and the first run was printed irregularly, so it will not be easy. Maybe impossible to figure out what issues exist. I have a few from both the first and last runs.

  19. It's not your typical gaming magazine, but for all I can tell it seems to be Imagine Media's version of Electronic Entertainment from IDG. In fact I think IDG replaced its PC Games magazine with E2 in order to compete with CD-ROM Today in the burgeoning multimedia age. Eventually multimedia died and games took over again, but there were a couple years when multimedia and gaming were viewed by some as part of the same thing. About half the reviews in CD-ROM Today are of games and nearly all the ads are gaming ads. People were still trying to figure stuff out then. It'd be really interesting to mark it for preservation. Edit: Now that CD-ROM Today has been given a place in the database and download manager, this thread will no longer be updated! This is for the US version of CD-ROM Today. There is also a British version, some scans of which are available at OldGameMags.com and elsewhere on the web. All 25 discs that accompanied US versions of CD-ROM Today are already available on Archive.org. The discs are numbered separately and the first four issues did not come with discs, so don't get confused. Here is a list of issues published. 01 — July/Summer 1993 (preserved) (Premiere issue) 02 — Fall 1993 (preserved) 03 — Winter 1993 (acquired) 04 — Spring 1994 (acquired) 05 — April/May 1994 (acquired) (first issue with a disc) 06 — June/July 1994 (acquired) 07 — Aug/Sep 1994 (acquired) 08 — October 1994 (acquired) 09 — November 1994 (acquired) 10 — December 1994 (acquired) 11 — January 1995 (acquired) 12 — February 1995 (missing) 13 — March 1995 (acquired) 14 — April 1995 (acquired) 15 — May 1995 (missing) 16 — June 1995 (missing) 17 — July 1995 (acquired) 18 — August 1995 (missing) 19 — September 1995 (acquired) 20 — October 1995 (acquired) 21 — November 1995 (acquired) 22 — December 1995 (acquired) 23 — January 1996 (missing) 24 — February 1996 (acquired) 25 — March 1996 (acquired) 26 — April 1996 (acquired) 27 — May 1996 (acquired) 28 — June 1996 (missing) 29 — July 1996 (missing)
  20. I have some others as wellGameWalker, V-Jump, and some Dreamcast mags. Gotta hurry up and finish NextGen. I know a guy who's into Dengeki Nintendo, though. I'll get in touch.
  21. To me Halo will always be that game first introduced by Steve Jobs at Macworld Expo as an example how Apple changed its attitude toward gaming and was going to make machines with the best graphics cards. Then Microsoft bought out Bungie, the most profitable Mac gaming company, and ushered Mac gaming into a new dark age from which it never recovered. Halo is like a horseman of the gaming apocalypse to me.
