  1. I hate chewing gum and that includes things like Blow-pops. Gum has flavor at first but then loses it and then you're stuck with tasteless rubber. I much prefer 'gummie' candies like gummy-bears, sour-worms, sour peaches, jelly beans, starburst, etc.
  2. I remember that one! Did anyone here in the forums actually own and play with the NES Sattelite?
  3. I play games on my Sony Tablet S. I'm planning on getting an Android phone for games any suggestions? I'm thinking the Sony Xperia Play.
  4. I voted both. Personally at my age I like digital because it saves up space in my home. I'm not much of a collector so I don't need the physical media. Most of the games I play today are on PC or Android tablet/phone. HOWEVER (and this is why I clicked both) I only like DRM-free digital, like open-source games (Cube, Frogatto, Red Eclipse). None of this you need an internet connection to play a game nonsense.
  5. Another really cool use of Everdrive is to play recently made ROM-hacks on your original hardware, however some hacks won't work because of technical limitations (a classic example is Super Mario Star Road for N64). Of course, to legally patch-play ROM-hacks you have to dump your own ROM-files but you can find dumpers online.
  6. Great Topic! My list Atari 2600 Atari 7800 Atari Jaguar COLECO Colecovision Mattel Intellivision Microsoft XBox Microsoft XBox 360 (college roommate) Nintendo NES Nintendo SNES Nintendo N64 Nintendo Gamecube (only at friend's house, never owned it) Sega Master System Sega Genesis Sega CD Sega 32X Sega Dreamcast Sony Playstation (at friends house) Sony Playstation 2 (at friends house) Nintendo Gameboy Nintendo Gameboy Color Nintendo Gameboy Advance (at the store) Nintendo Virtualboy PC DOS PC Win 95/98/ME PC Win Vista/7/8.1 PC Linux Mint
  7. At some point in the future it will end because a. collectors will hoard all the carts/cds/etc. and b. the physical media will eventually degrade from age (but that's going to be a LOOOOOOOOONG TIME!). It won't matter though because younger generations will be able to play the games via company-sanctioned emulation (Virtual Console).
  8. Congrats to MetalJesus on the find. In fairness to Nintendo, the 64 had A LOT of great games: Super Mario 64, Ocarina of Time, Perfect Dark, Paper Mario, etc. I'm curious since the 64DD came with a keyboard and mouse, if a version of Linux could be developed to run on the N64 platform.
  9. Bootsy (AVGN and Mike Matei's friend) beats Battletoads (TIPS+STRATEGIES for anyone here)
  10. Let's see: 1. Virtual Boy 2. 32X 3. The pre-mature announcement of the Dreamcast, which meant most developers stopped making games for Saturn.
  11. I'm not sure if my earliest gaming memory was with the Atari 2600 or the NES. I remember being 5 or 6 and my first NES games being Top Gun (landing the plane ) and Metal Mech (which is awful) Then I got Street Fighter 2020 and Mafat Conspiracy, both of which aren't top-shelf but pretty decent.
  12. I'm part of the generation where comics was becoming less a part of young people's lives, although I'm familiar with all main comic-book heroes from the cartoons (Batman: Animated Series and 90s Spiderman) and of course the comic-book movies from 1989-present (both Batman series, X-Men, Spider Man trilogy). Oh, and I can't forget, games based on comic-book properties like the excellent Punisher arcade game! One comic book that I liked was the Archie Sonic comics, at least from the start (1993) to 2002. The series starts off based on the SatAM cartoon but eventually went into its own direction. I especially LOVE the period from 1994-1999, after S&K but before Sonic Adventure when there wasn't any big Sonic game, so they had original plots & characters.
  13. Wired UK has a good weekly tech podcast. TED talks also has podcasts. Lastly, Off-The-Grid radio has a nice 30 min. weekly podcast about gardening/farming.
  14. For me it's either Super Mario Bros. Movie (yes I LoL at how detached it is from the source material) or the first Mortal Kombat movie.
  15. Do less people play on the PC on consoles? I would be surprised if that's the case. Installing PC games is a hell of a lot easier than in the 90s. Other than current-gen titles, most laptops <$500 have the power to play most games that are sold and of course the indy games.
  16. My father would buy older consoles at tag-sales, so I grew up with the NES, SNES, Genesis, Master System, Atari 2600, and the Jaguar. As I got older and had my own money I bought Gameboy games and the N64 was the first console that I bought. The most recent console I owned was the Sega Dreamcast. The most chronological game I played and beat was Metal Slug 6 (2006), so I don't know what's been going on in the gaming world over the past 10 years (other than there's PS4 and XboxOne).
  17. My favorite 4 from the 90s were Nintendo Power, Electronic Gaming Monthly, Gamepro, and NEXT Generation. In the late 90s-early 2000s when I was into PC gaming there was PC Gamer and Computer Gaming World.
  18. A big reason people bought video game magazines back in the day was for the maps, secrets, strategy guides, and codes. That has been made obsolete with websites like gamefaqs.com and more recently youtube longplay videos.
  19. Hey, What are your guys favorite websites that host retrogame hacks? Here's four: romhacking.net www.smwcentral.net/ http://info.sonicretro.org/Category:Hacks http://www.metroidconstruction.com/ Patch these onto your favorite games and pop into your favorite Android-based emulator!
  20. Yeah I prefer digital but the key is DRM-free. Sourceforge has some good open-source games (Cube 2, Hedgewars, Super Tux Kart)
  21. Most recent console I bought was an XBox (original) back in 2009. Before that was a Dreamcast in 2001. I mostly played games on the PC.
  22. Hey, I found a cool retro-gaming websito called "Retro-Sanctuary". http://retro-sanctuary.com/Top%20Games%20Main.html He's done lists for NES, SNES, and Megadrive, and even more recent consoles like Gamecube and Dreamcast. Check 'em out; maybe you'll find an overlooked gem.
  23. Hey, I wanted to know if anyone here knows whether or not Gamepro or Electronic Gaming Monthly had sections on other media like comic books? The time period I'm interested in, is from December 1991 to June 1993. https://www.retromags.com/magazines/category/usa/electronic-gaming-monthly/?sort_col=field_20&sort_order=asc&per_page=24&st=24 https://www.retromags.com/magazines/category/usa/gamepro/?sort_col=field_20&sort_order=asc&per_page=24&st=24
  24. At this point (March 15th, 2016) I would say Xbox, Gamecube, PS2, and Dreamcast and anything earler is "retro".
