  1. Next Generation Issue 003 March 1995 is now up! http://hotfile.com/dl/45829691/1a49faa/next_generation_march_1995.zip.html This was a fantastic issue. The articles and screenshots keep taking my attention away during scanning and slowing me down. This is also my best scan so far with the least amount of artifacts and crooked pages because I edited some of them in Photoshop CS5 unlike, admittedly, my previous 2. I may have to go back and clean them up. I could still use some live support - I still have questions!
  2. Next Generation Issue 02 February 1995 is now up: http://hotfile.com/dl/45714715/895ef2b/next_generation_february_1995.zip.html I don't know, I just followed your directions. The second issue I did in about an hour and a half from beginning to end. I used this HP F2120 scanner and used Hypersnap 6.80 which can acquire the scan directly in it for chopping or editing and quick JPEG saving.
  3. http://hotfile.com/dl/45684084/f40269a/Next_Generation_January_1995.zip.html Please mirror it on Megaupload. I hate Hotfile.
  4. All right. The first issue of Next Generation is done. Next Generation January 1995.cbr Megaupload sucks. It's giving me an error when I upload and I don't have an account with them. It's 218MB and Rapidshare's max is 200. I can put it on Usenet if you want or if you have an FTP let me know. I guess I'm trying Hotfile. Seems to be working.
  5. I'd rather not keep asking questions here but it looks like no one wants to talk to me live (you psychopaths) How come some CBRs show up only 1 page at a time like Next Generation issue 20 with 1 page flip per page turn where others are really nicely spread 2 pages per page turn? I want my scans like the latter. I want some standards here.
  6. Could I talk to one of you on some instant messenging program or IRC or something? I could use some support over here... my first scan at the recommended 300dpi, 90% JPEG compression. I have some questions and need someone on standby to answer them so I can get this going. http://www.retromags.net/wiki/Scanning Next Generation Issue 01 - Front - http://www.users.qwest.net/~nirv/nextgeneration_issue01-front.jpg
  7. The NetLink community was a pretty small, close community. I was an editor for the http://www.netlinkworld.com/ fan website and through that, had direct communication with both Sega and Planetweb. Our main contribution to the Planetweb browser was testing betas and discussing features people wanted. Downloading beta browsers was a slow, agonizing process (28.8 modem) and if you reset your Saturn or it locked, you'd have to redownload it because it was only temporarily stored in memory. Beta testing the browser for 3.0 was very important and many people contributed.
  8. On topic: I've appeared in print a couple of times. My name is on the back of the Sega Saturn NetLink Gamepack box, as well as in the credits of Planetweb 3.0 browser credits that came with it. My Counter-Strike screenshot has appeared in a lot of advertisements and one of them in an Xbox Magazine. It's weird that they showed a PC screenshot for Xbox Counterstrike. Here it is: http://static.myce.com/images_news/userimages/counterstrike.jpg
  9. Oh, here's a perfect example. It says in the PROJECT Tracker (not in the downloads section) that Next Generation Issue #08 is uploaded, but the file isn't found: http://www.retromags.com/forums/tracker/issue-127-next-generation-issue-008-aug-1995/ We need to work on a way to clean this up so there's no confusion about what's available. We have to start with an official database with some sort of .sfv checker like GoodNES, GoodGEN, or .sfv files found in other releases to verify the file's CRC. That'd be a huge help. I really don't want to scan something that's a duplicate.
  10. All right. I just bought a new scanner. It'll be slower than the Automatic Document Feeder that Phil was talking about but whatever. So I could use some help. 1. Is there an up-to-date database that I could compare so I don't scan a duplicate? I have more than just the Next Generation Magazines...many from 1991-1998. I saw Eday talking about a better database in a 2009 thread.. 2. Is Comical the best reader for Windows? I'm having problems opening some .cbrs I burned to a DVD-R a year or two ago and one I downloaded off the site yesterday. I don't think they're corrupt files. 3. Should I even bother scanning one with a missing page? If I do scan it, wouldn't it be a pain to keep track of missing pages rather than just missing issues? I owned these magazines as a kid and although most are in good condition, some are a little worn. I'll probably use Photoshop or something to edit out any stains because I have no clue how to clean magazine paper with chemicals.
  11. Oh man then I'm sitting on a goldmine over here. http://img16.imageshack.us/img16/5563/nextgennirv.jpg So I've got a scanner here that I haven't used in years. I don't even know if it works. I'll try finding the power to it and see how they turn out. The biggest problems would be 1. Slow scanner. 2. No idea how to debind properly. Post a youtube video? 3. I really hate the idea of these rare magazines being all chopped up but I realize the importance of preserving these incredible retro gaming mags.
  12. After all this time, Retromags only has TWO scans of the Next Generation Magazine? Either that section just hasn't been updated, or nobody here owned those magazines. If it's out of date, please direct me the better place to go. http://www.retromags.com/forums/files/category/13-next-generation/ I figured most of them were scanned which is why I was about to throw away all of my issues.....
  13. 91% from some *.pl address. He's only uploaded 61MB total. It's pretty safe to say he's going to bail when he reaches 100%.
  14. Yup, I searched CL this morning - a lot. Most scanners were pretty crappy and I even did a search for some of the fastest and found a good Cannon one but then I remembered I had one in the closet. I'm going to try this one out and if it's bungled or tightens my jaws, I'll grab one off CL. I'd like to point out that I'm on the Minonova torrent right now and I found out that I'm constantly uploading at 185 kB/sec probably for the next few weeks or until it's done, then I'm putting all 32GB on Usenet so if anyone wants to jump in and help, feel free.
  15. I found a scanner in my closet actually. It's a piece of crap but it should get the job done. It's a Microtek 4850 but I lack a power cable for it so I'll have to pick one up this week. Is there an IRC channel for Retromags?
  16. Going through them right now. I found a Gamepro January 1994 issue that you don't have scanned, but the cover is missing and a few pages a few pages are a little haggard - other than that it's pretty good. Do you still want it? Also, it seems your scan of Game Players Encyclopedia Volume 3 is not volume 3 because I have volume 3 here and it shows Sonic the hedgehog on the front and is about Genesis games. I have a S.W.A.T Pro March 1994 also without a cover. Here's what I have that isn't listed in the collection. I either need to buy a scanner myself or send these to someone. http://www.users.qwest.net/~amerrill/retro...nirv-toscan.jpg
  17. I didn't disappear. I noticed you don't have many Game Informer mags - I happen to have quite a few. I'm actually going through your current scans to make sure I don't send ones that are already finished.
  18. It's probably about 120+ at this point. I can take more photos after I move on July 1st but I won't disappear. I definitely love my gaming mags and want them preserved properly. I'm as nostalgic as they come.
  19. I have been gaming for 25 years and I have collected a bunch of random magazines and many of them are in really good condition ranging from 1992 to 2002. Most of them are in the 1994-1997 range. I took a couple pictures of a few random ones. I don't have a scanner, but I'd be willing to send these off to someone for free as long as you pay shipping. I'm going to be moving soon but I will bring them with me and decide what I will do then. I'd need a zip code because these weigh a lot. I don't know if I'd have the time to scan them all. I did throw a lot of them away a long time ago and I feel dumb for doing that now. http://img185.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc00470gx1.jpg
